RNM Week: “Teen” | HIGH SCHOOL REUNION AU

2008 was not a year marked with tragedy. Noah never creeped through the cracks of his pod; Rosa lived and went to rehab outside of Roswell; and Liz and Max went on their road trip. It still didn’t end in a happily ever after for them. 

Two months into their four month adventure, there was a moment of hotel fumbling, an unplanned burn on Liz, and suddenly Max’s secret was revealed in a panic. Neither handled it well. It’s been hard keeping track of Max Evans in the years since, what with his lack of an online presence; Liz hears he’s out of the country.

But Roswell’s 2018 high school reunion brings them into each other’s orbits again, and their first meeting pulses with energies: regret, awkwardness, longing. Before Max can get a word out, the music speakers stutter, and then so does he. Somehow, miraculously, Liz laughs. “Still?” she asks him. He’s helpless. “Yeah,” he says. “Still.”
