The Akron Innerbelt, one of the Midwest's most notorious incomplete freeways, as photographed by my friend with our drone in May 2023.

Originally proposed in the 1960s, planned to connect downtown Akron all the way to Kent, only a few miles were built in the early 1970s before the project was cancelled.

A portion of the highway was closed to traffic in the late 2010s and now sits disused, pending redevelopment of the land.

FYI for my fellow roadgeeks:

The New York State Thruway entrance tollbooth Medeiros drove through in this MV above was located on the western terminus of the Western Expressway (I-490) in Rochester.

And here’s the western terminus of I-490 34 years later. It’s toll-by-plate, but anyone who had watched the MV would imagine Medeiros singing the ballad. (Best to play it as you approach it, LOL.)
