It is an act of which a person tried to 'undo' an unhealthy or even destructive thought or action by engaging in a contrary behavior. A defense mechanism many of people do, whether consciously or unconsciously. Fairly such act is rampant - whether as an individual or not - and the company she had been with isn't an exemption to such. Lorraine believes that the foundation being cared for by LGC falls to such - no matter how they claim their intentions as clear innocent. Who would believe in it anyway? But they let it pass, because good deed, is still a good deed.
And she was undoing as well.
Abandoned the golden extravagance of the parties she'd usually engaged herself to, the hall stood a bit more plain than the usual. Less the aged businessmen in their tacky suits and ill-fashioned ties, or their overly-dressed muses and/or mistresses, the banquet was kept semi-formal. There were no cocktails, no liquors, only champagnes, which however aren't allowed to be drank by the beloved students who were hand-picked to attend the said function - the lucky ones who will serve as the beneficiary for such event. Funny as how they were guarded well - the students all lined up at the front table, prim and proper in their uniform.
While most of the faces are new to her eyes, there are some few of them who are familiar. A social call, formalities in meeting their benefactor, these are the reasons the school had organized such event, and being in the highest and commanding position, she was counted for the appearance, and a speech to partner that. Lorraine ambled her way down from the podium, a sea of applause echoed through at the inspirational speech she had just delivered - though she wasn't too sure if it even reached past the students ears.
Table per table, she made her rounds of small talks with the scholars and their parents, most gleaming at her for such generosity. She'd accepted the repetitive gratefulness until she reached that one last student who had been singly eating his meal over the end of the table. Just like last year. "Enjoying the food?" Disposing of the glass of champagne that became idly a prop, she took two glasses of fresh juice from the roaming waiter. "How have you been, Minhyun?" The quiet boy had always led to let the curiosity flow within her.
