Lost Notebook

 Funny how they happened to run into one another like this. Renji had just been on his way to find her when she brushed right past him. Being who he is, eyes didn’t DARE peer inside the notebook, but luckily he had seen a name etched on the side – that name being hers.Momo. Easy enough. He had caught sight of the thing laying dead center of the hall. The way she reached now had Renji curious about the words written inside. He’d respect that secret.

          ——— ‘ Here. Got to be more careful. I can’t say ANYONE ELSE wouldn’t have tried to read a few pages.  ’

“Oh! Thank you Renji! I owe you big time” Eagerly she took the book and held it to her chest. She didn’t know what she’d do if someone like Rangiku would have found it. Oh she’d never live it down!!

Then she looked up at him suspiciously before trying her best to look intimidating.

“ and how do I know You didn’t try and peruse a few pages Mister?”

“Whoa! Hey! where you running to?”

“R…Renji, I’m so sorry!” She smiled, taking a breath as she looked up at him. “I was running through here earlier while doing errands and I dropped my journal. I wanted to find it before someone picked it up…that would be way too embarrassing to deal with” She blushed lightly while rubbing the back of her head nervously.

      Getting back on his feet in a rather quick time, Renji brushed off the dirt from his clothing then glanced over at the other who had spoken; Captain Hitsugaya. This was a training course but Renji figured he had been [ ᴀʟᴏɴᴇ ] No on to catch the eye of any mistakes, and of course, he happened to nearly trip over his own foot – and then fumble.

          ——— ‘  Che, yeah. Seems they really amped up the skill set of this course.  ’

True Toshiro had only just been arriving, but it had been within enough time to see the tall, redhead fall to the floor. He had a bad habit of simply appearing behind people without notice, hopefully he hadn’t been cause for distraction that made the lieutenant fall. Regardless words of reprimanding caution sprung to his lips without thought and once his presence was known he stepped farther inside- moving closer to Renji so there was less of a need to shout.

“That is true, from what I saw you were doing well but make sure to keep an eye on where you place your feet.”

Shunsui can’t help it; he grins.

“That’s cute, Abarai-kun,” he says, throwing his head back and letting a deep laugh - a real one, hearty and heady and raw - rumble through the thick, sticky air between them. “Trust me, m’kay? You don’t need sleep to sheep - I mean, you don’t need sheep to sleep - y’know what I’m saying?”

With that, Shunsui does his clumsy best to jab a forefinger in Renji’s general direction. “What’s wrong, huh?” he asks. “That Captain of yours got you scared to relax, even when you’re off-duty? Is that it?” Shunsui frowns. “Or,” he adds, watching Renji carefully, “is it somethin’ else? You… can talk to me, if you need to, y’know… ”
