Gescom - Live @ Warp Nesh 9/3/2001
Ad Vanz vs. Gescom- Viral (1998)
~~ hybrid live / DJ set for Electronic Explorations, appetizer before Unsound Festival. it’s available for download also. enjoy! “When I perform live I use extended vocal techniques as a way to connect with the Source. Seeing voice as a primordial instrument, I sometimes groan, at other refer to mantras and also produce small sounds (akin to ASMR). This brings feeling of ancient spells (channeled Slavic whisperers) and atmosphere of tribal ritual. Chosen crystals and minerals have a prominent place in my performances. In this mix I used energy of huge violet Amethyst and quartz called Citrine. My personal Orgonite is always with me. I weave in their sounds with contact microphone which also transmits vibrations of natural ingredients (beechnut’s skin, shells, acorn, dry moss) and various found objects mostly made of plastic and paper. This contrasts the sounds that bring pleasant memories with those unwanted, the ones you can’t hide from – reminding about how much waste is made and how oceans are polluted. Recently I recorded samples of an old Casio keyboard which my friend circuit-bent so that the circuits of the processor and memory are outside. It’s possible to play on it via keyboard or modular synethsizer – connecting different cables makes the sounds more twisted and „acid”. Those samples, improvisation with theremin I built myself and my field recordings add to the constellation which is based on vinyls. I’m inspired by aesthetic and dramaturgy of radio-plays, a lot of spoken words albums, be it poetry or fairy-tales, are present in my sets. Equally important are beats – also those not so club friendly. Lately I perform with three turntables, using them as proper instruments not only record players, intuitively arriving at the methods known from (abstract) turntablism. But as I’m always on the lookout for different music, not everything is available on vinyl, I’m happy to play extended digital sets.”

“We’re primarily live musicians, rather than DJ’s. We initially thought of playing out the mix as a live improvisation, but since we’ve got a lot of new music about to be released and finally starting to play some live shows out and about, we instead decided that it’s a rare occasion for us to share some of the music we …

rob booth uploaded an early set of electronic explorations from 2008, packed with superb electronica and quality minimal bits that are close to my heart too. murcof, tim hecker, fennesz, basinski, etc. are mixed into one floating episode for the home listening posse. however its less bass related, don't miss it.
