It's shift change and Robby's on his way in. He spots Jack standing out the counter with one of their student nurses close to him. Probably asking a question. Robby pays it no mind but has every intention of greeting his husband.

He walks up to the two of them, bumping his shoulder gently against Jack's in silent greeting. "How's it been today?"

"Quiet." The intern speaks up and suddenly Robby is looking at him like he's made the worst possible mistake one could ever make. It's followed up with a groan from Robby. He wants to tell the guy how incredibly stupid that was but before he can speak in irritation, he hears a voice yelling. Dana. Of course.

"Listen up! All hands on deck. We've got a multi vehecile pile up coming on. Plenty of traumas to go around. Everyone, be prepared, it's going to be a long day."

The first paitent that comes in already looks bad enough with glass sticking out in various places. He can only imagine it's going to get worse from here.

A few more patients come in with various injuries. Robby puts his hand on Jack's shoulder. "Hope you didn't have many plans."

He's upstairs focusing on emails in their room when he hears the crashing in the kitchen. He wastes no time in heading downstairs to find out what happened and when he comes downstairs, for a few moments he allows himself to be amused at the mess that comes.

Until he notices the burn. It's a good thing he's got shoes on, he supposes, because the area is a mess of sauce. He'll have to mop all that up but he's more worried about that burn than the sauce right now. "Well, the floor isn't my husband."

He crosses the distance, trying to avoid as much sauce as he can so he doesn't track it all over the floor but it's tile and easy to clean. "Let me see it." Robby mutters, gently grasping ahold of Jack's hand to guide it out of the water. Yeah, that's going to be blister but it doesn't look too bad.

At the comment, he looks up, only to find his lips pressed agaisnt Jack's in a quick peck. It brings a laugh out of Robby despite the seriousness of the situation. "It'll blister but we'll bandage it up." He guides Jack's hand back under the water. "Stay here."

He doesn't clean up all the mess but he does make sure they're not going to be tracking suace throughout the house. He'll take care of the rest later. He grabs a first aid kit and returns to Jack, kicking aside stray potatoes as he does. "Hey. Come on. Let's go sit down on the couch and I'll bandage you up and then maybe we order something, huh?" As cute as Jack's attempt to cook had been, there's no saving that dinner.

Send 🌑 to crawl into bed with my muse

The bed dips with the weight, alerting to Robby that Robert has joined him. His eyes open, rolling over to face the man completely. One arm moves to settle over his abdomen, wrapping around him. What can he say? He likes being close to Robert. 

“Hey.” Robby greets softly, lips pressing to Robert’s cheek before he leans his head against his shoulder. Robert didn’t need to join him in bed, but it’s nice to have him right here with him.  

“You okay?” Robby mutters, soft and quiet, like speaking any louder will somehow ruin this moment. Whatever this moment is. Robert is quiet and while he could just be tired, Robby wants to check in. If the roles were reversed, Robert would do the same with him. 

He cares about him far too much to just let silence settle over him. Maybe he's overthinking, maybe it's nothing, but he needs to be sure that Robert is okay. Especially after everything, after telling him everything he's told him, and after Robby's own admissions to things he hasn't dared to tell anyone else yet. It's a lot on Robert, he's not unaware of that.

[ needy grind ] clothes still on, sender grinds against receiver until they’re both panting, desperate for more .

It’s all ragged breathing, panting against the flesh of Chiaki’s neck as the man grinds against him over and over, making him hard and aching in the confines of his pants. Making him needy, desperate for more, making up rock upwards to return the grinds with movement of his own. 

Robby is so hard that it hurts, he’s not sure how much of this he can take, and it sounds like Chiaki feels the same way as he does. Robby presses an open-mouthed kiss to Chaiki’s pulse point, followed by teeth gently biting down on the spot he’d just kissed. 

“Fuck.” Robby breathes against his neck, fingers curling around Chaiki’s hips. Not a hard grip but firm enough to feel his fingertips. The clothes need to come off, there is not enough skin against skin, far too much clothes and space between them. 

“Fuck. I need more. I want to feel your skin against mine.” The clothes are too much and so Robby pulls back from him, pulling off his hoodie to toss it aside, before throwing his shirt to the side too and then his eyes catch Chaiki’s and he waits, waits for permission to do more or for Chaiki to do something – anything. He’ll settle for anything at this point.

Insomnia gets the best of Robby most nights. One would think that after working twelve hour day shifts, sometimes well into night shift, he’d be able to sleep just fine. Some days, he comes home and passes out as soon as he lays down and other days are like this where no matter how much he tries, or how much tossing and turning he does, he just cannot sleep. 

Unwilling to wake up the man laying next to him, Robby climbs out of bed to find something to do to pass time. He heads for the bedroom door only to pause right as his hand goes for the doorknob, freezing in his spot when he hears Robert. 

At first, he thinks it’s just the TV he always has playing softly in the background, but the sounds are panicked and far too loud to be the TV. Robby turns around to look over at Robert, confirming that Robert is having some kind of nightmare that seems to betting worse with every passing second. 

Robby moves quickly then, the tired feeling suddenly gone and replaced by a protective need to make sure his boyfriend is okay. He climbs back into the bed, crawling over to Robert in record time. He settles beside him, a hand gently going to his shoulder in an attempt to gently shake him awake. 

“Robert? Wake up. You’re okay. I’m right here. Come back to me, Mayn Hartz.”

Somehow, Robert always seems to know just what Robby needs when he needs it. The coffee slid in front of  him is piping hot and black coffee, the way he prefers it. The more bitter, the better, the stronger the caffeine kick is going to be. 

The night hadn’t been easy. It never is with a child around, but it’s different when it’s his own child. They should talk about this first, before this goes any further, because Robert knows what he wants, he won’t budge on it, and Robert deserves an out. 

As far as the man knows, he’s just fostering the little girl but it’s more than that. He doesn’t want to just foster her, he’s known that from the moment he decided to take her home, but Robert at least deserves a discussion and a chance to get out if this isn’t what he wants. 

Sure, they’ve been together for a while now, but it’s never easy to just spring a baby on someone. Especially one so small. She’s healthy and doing great but she’s still just a baby, one that needs plenty of attention, and he’s already decided he’ll take that three month break here with her. 

The question now is – is Robert with him or would he rather run the other way? 

“Sit down.”” Robby says, nodding his head at the chair across the table in front of him. It’s a quiet soft demand, but one that displays how serious he is, and how much he wants to have this conversation. 

He waits until Robert has sit down before he speaks up again, 

“I want to adopt her. And I know this might not be something you want, it’s a lot, and if you don’t want to do this – that's fine. I wouldn’t blame you.” Even if it would hurt like hell that Robert would want out of this. “But I am adopting her. She deserves someone who isn’t going to abandon her again. I exactly how she feels,” Okay, he knows she doesn’t really know anything that is happening right now, but he needs to get his point across. She’s not the only one who was abandoned as a child. “I’m not going to be just another person who leaves her.” Robby falls silent then, daring to look up from the coffee and over to Robert.

Robby has a habit of taking his work home. He probably shouldn’t, now that he has someone over any chance he gets. HIPAA laws and everything, but Matt has never once tried to look at his work, so he’s not worried about it. It’s just charting he needs to finish up and he rather do that from the comfort of his home rather than at the hospital. 

He knows what Dana would say, that he has residents to do that, but sometimes it keeps his mind busy instead of spiraling.  

He’s so focused on finishing the work that it seems he’s started ignoring Matt. He doesn’t mean to, but as the man approaches and brushes his lips against the nape of his neck, Robby quickly realizes that maybe he should stop working. 

It’s hard to focus on work with Matt’s lips on his neck anyway. He shuts the laptop with one hand, taking off the glasses he was wearing with the other to neatly put it on the desk beside the laptop, head tilting but he doesn’t turn around to face Matt, only hums a content sound. He’s happy to sit here and let Matt kiss at his neck as much as he wants. 

“Sorry.” He apologizes with a soft sigh, “I got so fixated on work. Didn’t mean to ignore you.”

Those words leave him speechless. Robby doesn't know what to say, stunned into silence from the weight of them. What is he supposed to say to this? Love is an emotion he's tried to stay far away from.

He can't imagine why she would want to love him. He's not exactly lovable nowadays. He can be moody and irritable and he's a goddamn mess. Who the fuck wants such a mess?

"I.....I'm not sure what to say here other than there is no reason to change yourself to make anyone love you, Kate. You're perfect the way you are."
