Robert April by Gary Joran Mayoralgo
Omg, Kirk, you can't just ask someone why they're white
Trektober day 12: second contact
“Stop fiddling,” Bon muttered out of the corner of his mouth. “All the negotiating is done, all we have to do is drop off supplies.”
Chris resisted the urge to smooth his hair, and checked his cuffs one more time to make sure they were straight. No one had made contact with an Illyrian colony in decades, and now here out of the blue they had requested Starfleet assistance. There were those in the fleet with their reservations, but Starfleet was not in the habit of denying aid for no good reason.
“Have you ever met an Illyrian, sir?” Chris asked, nervously bouncing on his heels. A delegation appeared at the end of the garden, all in earth tones, practical yet elegant.
“Give me two more minutes and the answer’s yes.” Bob slapped on a wide smile as the three Illyrians approached. “Greetings. I’m Captain April, this is Lieutenant Pike. We are honored to be here.” The first contact team hadn’t reported any specific cultural greetings, but Bob still ducked his head respectfully. The leader of the group, a tall man with a grey beard, returned the gesture.
“The honor is ours. On behalf of this colony, I thank you for your shipment. It is impossible to describe the good you have done for us.” Chris didn’t react. As much as he had complained about ferrying around a couple tons of freeze dried grain, he was humbled by the true gratitude on the man’s face.
“Of course,” Bob said smoothly.
“Allow me to introduce myself- I am Isaiah Chin-Riley, governor of this colony. These are my aides, Neera-” He gestured to the shorter of the two women, who narrowed her eyes and didn’t react to Bob’s kind greeting. Chris swallowed; her sharp gaze made him feel like a bug under her shoe. “-and Una.”
Chris took his first proper look at the taller woman, and his mouth went dry. He had been so focused on the governor and not embarrassing Bob, he had somehow missed that Una was absolutely stunning.
Not appropriate, Chris, he berated himself, and his neck burned as a flush crawled up to his cheeks. Una gave Bob a diplomatic smile, then her eyes flicked to Chris and lingered. Chris cracked what he hoped was a winning smile, and Una pressed her lips together over a wider smile in return.
“If you two gentlemen are willing, I insist you stay for lunch and a tour of the capitol building.” The governor stretched his arm back towards the sprawling garden and the narrow, majestic spire rising through the middle of it.
“Thank you, Governor, but-”
“We would be honored,” Chris blurted, and avoided Bob’s irritated look. The governor grinned.
“Splendid. Una, Neera?” Both women snapped to attention. “I shall see you all for lunch.” With that, the governor swept away.
Bob shot Chris another frustrated glance before swallowing it down and turning to the women with polite interest. “Ladies?” Una gave him a gracious nod and started down the garden path. Chris hurried along to walk beside her, and Una’s cheeks went very slightly pink.
Headcanon: Kelvin timeline Robert April is commanding the USS Farragut and his crew are all the Cage/SNW characters

I don’t mind that Robert April is Black in SNW whereas he was depicted as white in TAS, but it is a bit weird that since TAS is later in the timeline than SNW (as well as very much implied to be the same timeline as indicated by Lower Decks etc) it almost kinda implies that he… turned white at some point.

Maybe I'm just tripping and no I don't want to hear "but he's not supposed to be black" but I feel like Robert April's actor Adrian Holmes would have also made a good Philip Boyce. Something about his energy screams if Pike could just have martinis with this guy, he'd feel better.
