Say what you want about SNW not including Dr. Boyce and Yeoman Colt, but it was just as bad that AOS excluded Number One, Robert April, Dr. M’Benga, and Nurse Chapel (aside from mentioning that Kirk was creeping on her).

Say what you want about SNW not including Dr. Boyce and Yeoman Colt, but it was just as bad that AOS excluded Number One, Robert April, Dr. M’Benga, and Nurse Chapel (aside from mentioning that Kirk was creeping on her).
I feel like something that most people get wrong about Dr. Boyce is that he doesn’t give people alcohol all the time. When he starts making Pike a drink in The Cage, Pike is clearly confused and assumes he’s going preparing some sort of medical treatment. Acting like a bartender isn’t Boyce’s normal; he’s trying something to help his best friend cope with a difficult situation in his life. He doesn’t just go around handing out martinis.

Reading into Star Trek characters on Memory Alpha, and have realised that people are sponsored when they go to the Academy. We see this with Jim in Star Trek 2009, but this implies that Bones is sponsored too? I'm going with that it's Phillip Boyce
I love SNW, but I will never forgive them for excluding my boy Phil Boyce because they knew the disappointed dad energy would be off the charts.
Captain Pike would know no rest with both Una and Phil on his case. His wisdom is very much missed on this ship of chucklefucks (affectionate).
RIP Dr. Boyce, you would have loved the ship bar's martinis.

I'm bringing back Dr. Philip Boyce from The Cage into my AU, as captain Pike's caretaker. Assuming his new ship's crew is more or less the same as in Strange New Worlds - minus the ones who stayed on the Enterprise - M'Benga is once again the CMO. And the CMO can't focus on just one patient while still performing his duties. Thankfully, Pike had an old friend who was willing to leave Starfleet Medical to soar once again into the stars. And maybe attempt to keep this goddamned captain's self-preservation skills in check.
I only redesigned him a little bit. Boyce can have mad scientist hair, as a treat.
