so. i uh. i recently learned about an absolutely ridiculous villain from Doom Patrol named Robert 'Bobby' Carmichael, AKA 'The Love Glove'...😳💖
i'm not gonna lie, the dude's completely demented and his backstory/powers are ludicrous but he's fantastic 😂💖
so. backstory. he. he had a weirdly erotic dream about gloves hanging from a tree. and when he woke up his arms were gone. but he was left with 'The Love Glove', which functions as a disembodied hand.
and the Love Glove itself can pull Bobby into the dimension with the glove tree. where he can pick and choose left-handed gloves (the Love Glove is right-handed) with a variety of powers. 😭😭😭

regretfully, The Love Glove is quite an obscure character and i've only know about him for a brief period of time!! however, his appearances are within Grant Morrison's Doom Patrol comic series:

this series of comics follows the run of a supervillain team called the Brotherhood of Dada. the group was founded by Mr. Nobody (Eric Morden) a two-dimensional shadow who is able to drain sanity from human beings, after he was rejected from The Brotherhood of Evil. the Brotherhood of Dada is named after Dadaism, a counter-culture art movement emphasising a lack of reason 👀
because of this, all the members of The Brotherhood of Dada (and i believe Love Glove is part of the Second Brotherhood) are absurd! Love Glove's team aside from Mr Nobody includes: Agent !, a guy who 'comes as no surprise'; Alias the Blur, a broken ghost mirror who formed after an actress fell in love with her reflection and killed herself; Number None, who is simultaneously everything and nothing, and the Toy...who we know knowing about 🙈
i'm not gonna lie, reading these comics is a trip!! you can tell the people making the comics were having a blast leaning into the nonsense...i definitely need to reread a few times to get what on earth is going on 🙈💖 i believe a gender-swapped version called The Sisterhood of Dada were in the live-action Doom Patrol series, but alas, there was no version of The Love Glove! 💔
