Our big man Ivan is as good at the menacing presence of the lion bear patriarch protecting his young as he is at crushing hearts as the grief-stricken man genuinely trying to connect by opening up, showing his vulnerability and, almost shyly, offering kindness and consolation. 👌👑 And yet he might've sealed his fate by this very human move if things weren't even more complicated than it looks. 😢 (Yet again, the theme of revenge plays a part.)
Robert Delaney deserved more space in Disney's new series 'Wedding Season' for several reasons, but at least Ivan's marvellous work was supported by strong writing here that gave him a chance to show glimpses at his inner world that put the writing of 'Vikings' to shame in comparison and left me emotionally twisted. Really wish he wasn't dead at the start of the show and we had a chance to see more of him in the next season.
If you want to be entertained for a few hours by a very original genre-busting action-comedy crime mystery, this is worth a month's subscription to Disney+/Hulu/Star+ (depending on where you're living) and Ivan is a big highlight especially in episodes 2 & 7. Be prepared for an extended movie rather than a series experience in any case.
