The Face of Marble (1946)
Based on the title, I had low expectations. After watching, it’s gone into my “guilty pleasures” list.
I’m sorry the stills/screenshots weren’t of better quality, but neither was the print I watched.
John Carradine and Robert Shayne are scientists, Dr. Randolph and Dr. Cochran experimenting on resurrecting the dead to do their bidding. Unfortunately, the experiment doesn’t yield the expected results. The corpses come to life but possess “the face of marble.”
It’s a standard B-movie with science experiments, resurrection of life and death tropes… and an illicit romance between David Cochran (Shayne) and Charles’s wife, which is interesting since Cochran also has a fiancée!
So, if you like zombies, betrayal, and a Great Dane named Brutus, give this one a go!
Rewatch Factor: Funny how I like this one but didn’t care for Revenge of the Zombies, right? Too many tropes packed into one film for me. This is the right balance, I guess. Either way, it’s on my guilty pleasures list for good reason! The pacing is what saves this from being bogged down.
The Carradine Factor: If you’re into scholarly or jilted-lover Carradine, well, then you’ll love his character of Dr. Charles Randolph because he’s both! He’s no stranger to this role or B movies at this point, so sit back and enjoy!
