A new slogan for me should be “In Stewart and Jen I Trust.” Emotional Response has really stepped up their game in the past few years (if you haven’t listened to the Robert Storey compilation...you really should).
Stew and Jen have been promoting the Sarah Records (UK) reissues, and frankly, I ignored it. Twee vocals have never been my thing. But, then I heard Boyracer’s cover of “Tally Ho!” (The Clean) and decided to listen to this tour compilation. Wow. Yes, the vocals are twee, and yes, there is a lot of shoegaze here. But there is also a lot of C86 pure pop influence here. Simply put, I had fun listening to this.
I didn’t know that Sarah Records was responsible for putting out some East River Pipe, St. Christopher, and The Field Mice. Fans of Slumberland Records probably already know about Sarah....I confess, I did not. That is now remedied.
