While it's early in the year to pick a favourite event in the DCU, the death of Damian Wayne has my vote. This single event made me realize how much I still love the comic medium. Tomasi and Gleason gave us a story with so much emotion. The only other time I've ever felt such sadness from a comic was during the build up to Jack Drake's murder in Identity Crisis.
Damian's death was so well executed (no pun intended) that I felt the action more than just watch it happen on paper. I found myself re-reading Batman Inc 8 and Batman & Robin: Requiem over and over.
B&R 18 was stunning. The entire issue, without having a written talking bubble, was deafeningly loud off the pages. The panel that made me choke up:
Tough exterior to hide the child inside. The letter was beautifully crafted writing.
If you haven't already, I urge you to pickup Batman Inc, and Batman & Robin #18: Requiem.
