one of my favorite headcanons that i developed once upon a time YEARS ago is, uh. ectoplasm without a specific ghost signature can gain a semi-conscious state when exposed to a single specific (halfa) signature enough? cannot word things good but like

just little blob ghosts. or, not ghosts, but... ectoplasmic blobs with very basic consciousnesses. they linger around halfas because the signature of a powerful halfa is enough to just . accidentally manipulate ectoplasm nearby. they’re loyal to their signature owner and they don’t really have personalities unless their existence is maintained long enough for them tooo..... solidify, i guess

but that’d take a while and then they’re still not ghosts but rather a sort of. mirror of the primary halfa

and i specify halfa because i think in order to create one of these, accidentally or otherwise, it requires a specific element that a lot of ghosts lack: the ability to grow and change and adapt

like some ghosts can adapt, yea. if their environment changes, they have to, too. but they’re still rather limited because their nature is that they’re echoes of a life, essentially, and their existence hinges on their obsession. it feels reasonable to assume a halfa can and does have an obsession, but i think halfas can have multiple obsessions and also actively resist or balance them out and

danny accidentally just... gives basic consciousness to ectoplasm. they’re weak and don’t think for themselves beyond the desire to sustain their existence (as any liv—uh... existing, conscious thing desires) and dissipate if blasted or attacked, but they’re cute. they’re friends. and i love them

so dp thoughts! I'm a sucker for the few and far between 'Danny's got his own lair in the zone too' fics, so how would you picture a lair for him to be like if he has one? starry sky ceilings? totally made of ice? 'literally just his house in mirror image'? other ideas? :oc

danny’s lair is... always a little difficult for me to picture, but i can say with certainty that it is safe (at least, in theory). it is a place where danny can feel safe, which means it’s got elements of familiarity, but also it’s far enough from his current life that he can easily differentiate them from one another.

so i wouldn’t be too surprised if it resembled his room? that’s his space in the mortal plane or whatever you wanna call it, after all. it’s where he can bandage his wounds and sleep and relax. however, his room isn’t safe—within like the first four episodes of s1 he’s attacked in there at LEAST once? but if i recall properly it was, like, twice. ppprobably. maybe. don’t take my word on that

point is, his bedroom itself isn’t safe.

so danny’s lair in the ghost zone would resemble his room maybe in vibes, if nothing else. i can see model spaceships and posters for space programs and favorite bands and probably a few shows he likes. a bed comfortably sized for a growing kid. instead of a ceiling, there’s just open sky, deep purple and blue, with stars that resemble the constellations in the living world. it’s not a perfect rendition, but he can find peace in it all the same.

oh, maybe game systems and some books. don’t think lairs can craft those things themselves, at least not functionally, but who knows!

now, if we wanna get into, like... size? ghost lairs seem pretty elastic, i think. it’s a pocket dimension controlled and manipulated by one being, so i think size and environment is pretty... relative, i guess. maybe stronger ghosts maintain larger lairs. maybe it works like steven’s room in steven universe, where you can craft a pretty big space, but it has its limits with how much it can do. idk.

danny is powerful as hell so i can see the potential of his lair being larger than a single room, and being able to maintain more. if that’s the case, i’ve always liked to imagine that outside of the room is, like... open fields. maybe a beach, which i think is fun. i was gonna say woods, but he kinda gets hunted down by wild ghost animals in the woods when he can’t go ghost so... so. maybe not woods. definitely trees, though.

the primary space is his “bedroom” though, you know?

(ALTERNATIVE: as ghost king, the whole zone is his lair. apeshit and a little... uncomfortable, because it encompasses everything and everyone within it. that’d suck, i think. so i like him having a room. and open fields. and safety.)

i like to think about that saying, about how we’re the universe experiencing itself. we’re just a bunch of really, really small parts that connected together in ways that were different than the way most things connect and they kept connecting and they built each other up and up and up and now we exist. all these tiny tiny parts came together so that we could look down beneath our feet and up beyond our heads to everything outside of us. that’s just kind of neat, i think.

so. god im so fucking tired i cant.fucking. anyways so lairs are a ghosts consciousness sort of projected onto some kinda pocket dimension, which can be accessed via a doorway in the infinite realms/ghost zone. they reflect things that are important to the ghost. their size might be determined by power level and like... how conscious a ghost actually is

and i think its probably like taboo to enter a ghosts lair??probably???? like thats a.... its a projection of them. its not the same as, uh, as fucking with a ghosts core, maybe, but its... its etiquette. unless ur invited in, its a shit ass move to just barge into a ghosts lair

not every doorway in the infinite realms is a lair but every lair is a special and private place

and then u got like islands floating around the infinite realms which mmight just be lairs actually manifested INside the realms, which dont ask me about that i dont have brain

together ....... they help arthur maintain temperature with his arm whenever they’re in places with Extreme temperatures

why? because if it’s too hot his skin is gonna burn and if it’s too cold he’s at greater risk of frostbite.

arthur headcanons (w some general trio ones) evn tho nobody asked. it’s long. talk to me about them if u want. 

i just feel like rambling with a mild aim, so. claps hands together. lesgo

he has ocd

he hoards items as a result, and he doesn’t like people touching his things. throwing stuff away is hard. he has methods of managing it, tactics that help when he knows he needs to reduce clutter, but it’s still difficult.

one of his personal rituals involves the pins on his jacket. he checks them frequently throughout the day to make sure they haven’t fallen off. when he washes his jacket, he has to put the pins in the exact same spot (the holes there are worn open and visible, which makes it much easier). he has a specific pattern when he checks them too, & he jokes that its like those games where u have to hit the buttons in the same pattern that they light up in

violent intrusive thoughts central, babey! often coupled w graphic imagery. hes having a great time! love it

also like. anxiety and depression

sighs. and insomnia. he cant sleep! especially in unfamiliar environments. and he has to turn things “away” or else he feels watched (which i think is from his ocd)

SIGHS. and adhd, while we’re at it. infodumping hours are the best bc vivi and lewis are very good listeners even when they have no idea what hes talking about. (and vivi, although not inclined towards mechanics and robotics, is good at asking questions that help push the conversation forward. lewis has a tougher time but he makes up for it in attentiveness)

he doesnt medicate because finding meds that dont exacerbate other aspects is difficult. he had a therapist for a good while, though, after uncle lance took him in, so he has a lot of different methods of helping himself

and he has rly supportive, understanding friends who also have their own mental and physical issues so it’s like. they get it. Everyone Gets It.

hes a gamer...... 

he likes puzzle games a lot, but rpgs are usually what he plays

not that he plays them OFTEN because turns out he has 20 other projects to work on (haha what do i mean im projecting. dont talk to me.)

he didn’t make, like, robo-prosthesis himself, those existed before his amputation, but when he was fitted with his own he either built the whole thing from scratch or he totally revamped the one he got

he has a shoulder port and actually, he’s decided, it SUCKS,

if he isn’t careful about the weather, the metal will freeze or heat up and i mean. you can imagine the consequences

all of them actually have adhd, ive decided just now. all three of them. its party town, its infodump hours, no one can stop them and no one can stop me,

lewis and arthur bond over puzzle games. they all play mystery games when the desire hits

vivi almost ALWAYS gets first in mario kart. shes just too good

arthur kicks butt at super smash bros tho and can usually win

lewis’s strong suit isnt really fighting-based games. he likes exploration and socializing. theres probably an mmorpg they all play together

vivi is the fighter, arthurs the spellcaster, and lewis is the combination alchemist/healer

theyve probably played dungeons and dragons. i can see them sitting in the back of the van on late nights out, trying to play but devolving into conversations about enemy logistics or game mechanics or like. something entirely unrelated

lewis deserves his own section to discuss this in greater detail but he came from a wealthy/royal background. i have evidence to back this up. i have no idea if other people have thought of this

hes VERY bi

lewis is the mom friend, except he runs himself into the ground caring about other people so much so that vivi and arthur actively have to work to get him to relax and take time for himself. its a lot of work! he just wants to make sure everyone else is taken care of, “which is lovely, lewis, really,” vivi assures. “but you really need to look out for yourself too, y’know,” arthur pipes up.

like you either gang up on him or it just isnt going to work. hes full of love and a desperate need to prove himself
