Summary: You get drunk at a graduation party.
—
You wander around the house. The music is so loud you can feel it in your chest. This wasn’t your type of scene, but your best friend, Steve, convinced you to come out.
“Come on! It’s not everyday you get to celebrate graduating!”
So here you are, at Steve’s crowded house, trying to find Steve. You walk into the kitchen, and feel two hands on your shoulders.
“Y/N! I’ve been looking for you! Here!” Steve shoves a drink into your hand. “Have a drink!”
You look down at the canned drink in your hand. “Steve, I-”
“Come on!” Steve says. “You’re my best friend! I want to celebrate with you!” Steve holds his can out towards you. “What do you say?”
You look at the smile on your best friend’s face. Steve has been with you through it all. You clink your can against his, “Let’s fucking party!”
—
You and Steve are so far gone. You aren’t sure how many drinks you’ve had, but you can’t see straight. So you’re also not sure how Steve convinced you to be his teammate for beer pong.
The two of you haven’t made a single shot against the other team. You watch as another one of your cups gets sunk.
“That one is yours, Harrington.” You pick up the cup and hand it to him.
“No it's not! It’s yours!” Steve argues.
“Someone just drink it!” Someone from the other team says.
“It’s already in your hand, you drink it!” Steve says.
You groan but quickly chug the beer in the cup.
The game is over quickly, with you and Steve losing. Steve made you drink all the cups because, “I’m starting not to feel good.”
“Good game!” The other teams snickers.
You and Steve step away from the table. “Are you okay?” You ask, putting a hand on his back.
Steve nods. “I think it’s all just hitting me now. I don’t know how you’re still kicking.” You aren’t sure either, you’re definitely drunk, but you don’t feel sick. Steve makes his way to the couch and sits down. “I’m just gonna sit for a little bit.”
“I’m going to go get you some water, I’ll be right back.” You pat Steve on the shoulder before walking away.
You stumble your way to the kitchen. You grab a glass from the cabinet and turn on the sink. You place the cup under the running water and watch as the cup fills. Once it's filled, you turn the faucet off and leave the kitchen. You make your way back to the living room. “Here ya go,” You had Steve the cup of water.
“Thanks!” Steve grabs the glass from your hand.
“Steve, I’m going to step out back and get some fresh air.” You pat him on the shoulder.
“Are you okay?”
“Yeah, the music is very loud and I just need some air.”
“Come get me if you need me,” Steve says.
You squeeze his shoulder lightly. “I will, thank you.”
You walk towards the back of the house and walk out of the back door. You sit down on the grass before laying down flat on your back. You look up at the night sky, looking at all the stars.
“Are you drunk?”
You jump into a sitting position, making the world spin around you. You squint, looking at the person towering over you.
“Robin!”
Robin is standing in front of you with a smirk on your face. “The one and only!”
You’ve known Robin since the summer. Steve and Robin worked at Scoops Ahoy together, so the two of you became really close. You started spending most of your time there, not sure why you were being drawn to the establishment. Until you realized…you have a crush on Robin.
“What are you doing on the ground, silly?” Robin asks, squatting down in front of you.
You shrug. “I just needed some fresh air.” You slowly lay back down.
Robin lays down on the grass next to you. She looks over at you as you look up at the stars. “Are you feeling okay?”
“Dizzy,” you say.
“You had a lot to drink tonight,” Robin says. “It seems to be catching up to you.”
“Everyone out! The party is over!” You hear Steve yell from inside the house. “Time to go home!”
“He’s the reason I had a lot to drink,” You say pointing towards the house. “Wanted to celebrate graduation.”
Robin nods. “Well, I’d call your celebration a success,” Robin laughs.
You smile, Robin’s laugh is so cute. “You’re so cute.” You don’t register what you’re saying until after you say it. You pause. “I mean…I uhm…I meant to say, one of the guys told me that he thinks you're cute,” You stumble on your words.
Robin raises her eyebrows at you. “Is that so? One of the boys said that to you?”
You nod. “Yeah, one of the boys,” You say, your voice cracking.
“That’s a real shame,” Robin says with a sigh.
“Why’s that?” You ask with a tilt of your head.
“Well, there’s this girl, she’s really pretty,” Robin looks at you. “I met her over the summer. She walked into Scoops Ahoy to see her best friend, and ever since then, I haven’t been able to stop thinking about her.”
“You’re into girls?” You ask shocked.
Robin chuckles. “Is that really all you got from that?”
“N…no, I mean..I-”
Robin leans forward, her face inches from yours. “Can I kiss you?”
“I think I’m going to throw up,” You say, a wave of nausea hitting you like a truck.
“Oh, I didn’t realize I was that bad,” Robin jokes.
You’re quick to stand to your feet and rush to the nearest bush. Robin holds your hair back as you empty your guts into the bush. Robin rubs your back as you hunch over the bush.
You sit back down on the ground once you’re done throwing up. “Sorry about that.”
Robin sits down next to you. “No need to apologize.”
“So, about that kiss?” You ask.
“That will need to be postponed! I’m not kissing you after you threw up!”
You both laugh.
“Are you two finally together, or what?” Steve asks. You and Robin both look up to see Steve standing in the doorway of the backdoor with a smirk on his face. “Please say ‘yes’, I’m tired of hearing both of you tell me you like each other! It’s been torture holding it from you both!”

CHARACTERS: Robin Buckley, Nancy Wheeler & Steve Harrington.
Your POV:
As you stood outside in the front yard, just a few steps away from the party, you fiddled with your hair and fixed yourself up. You pulled your small makeup mirror from your purse, flicked it open and checked your makeup before reapplying some lip gloss. You sighed as you placed the mirror back in your purse.
You weren’t going to go to this party, since you hated them, but when you found out Robin was going, you knew you couldn’t miss it. Tonight, you had dressed out of your comfort zone. You wanted to impress Robin. You wanted her to notice you. Like, really notice you.
“You good?” Nancy asked, raising an eyebrow at you. You took a deep breath before nodding.
“I’m fine, just a little nervous.” You replied, brushing your hands against your skirt. You turned to face the front door, nerves pooling in your stomach.
“Nervous? For what?”
“Just–” You started, but before you could finish your sentence, your eyes locked onto a familiar brown-haired girl through the window. You stared at her, watching as she laughed and danced alongside some of her friends. Nancy followed your line of sight over to Robin.
“Robin?” She wondered, turning to face you. You fell from your daydream, turning to Nancy with a defensive expression.
“No!” You protested, unable to make eye contact with her.
“Alright, alright,” Nancy mumbled, throwing her hands up in front of her and backing away slightly. You took in another deep breath before forcing your lips into a smile and heading toward the entrance. Nancy followed after you.
As you walked through the front door, your nose was infiltrated by the unpleasant smell of alcohol and sweat. You turned to the right, looking at the spot you had seen Robin in through the window, and realised she was gone. You made your way through the crowd of people that spread themselves out throughout the house, looking for her. Somewhere, along the way, you had lost Nancy in the swarm of drunk bodies that filled every room of the house.
Suddenly, your search was interrupted when you ran straight into someone, causing both of you to fall to the floor.
“Hey, watch where you’re–”
“I’m so sorry,” You apologised, steadying your dizzy eyes.
“Y/N?”
“I’m so stupid, I should’ve–” You continued, not realising who you had run into. You scramble to get to your feet, but fall after a failed attempt. You lifted your head to look at the person and realise it’s Robin. Your mouth opens with a gasp and stills, staring at the girl for a moment.
“Y/N,” Robin repeated.
“Fuck. I’m sorry.” You said, blinking rapidly and waking yourself back up.
“No, no, don’t worry about it, pretty girl.” She replied, reaching out her hand for you to grab. You look down at her hand and then back at her. She moves it closer to you and wiggles her fingers, signalling for you to grab it. You reach for her hand and gently wrap your fingers around her palm, letting her pull you up to your feet. You take a deep breath and gulp, looking back into her eyes and maybe holding her hand for a little longer than you should’ve.
“Thank you.” You added, looking around the room to avoid eye contact. Robin looks down at your shirt, which is now covered in red punch.
“Shit, fuck, I’m so sorry,” She added, guilt flooding her voice. You looked down at your shirt and the big red stain that now came with it and sighed. You had gotten all dressed up for Robin, just to have her ruin your pretty little outfit with her drink. You looked up at Robin with a fake smile plastered onto your face.
“It’s fine, Robin.” You assured, looking around the room for the closest bathroom.
“I’m– fuck.” She cursed, running her hands through her hair. “Here, let me help.” She grabbed your hand and dragged you through the crowd of people, not caring for the other people she ran into. She grabbed the doorknob and pushed the door open, revealing two people making out inside. She cringed as she shut it again, before reopening it with her eyebrows raised.
“Steve?” She said, looking at the boy and girl who had now stopped kissing each other.
“Robin! H-Hey!” He called, wiping the lipstick off of his lip and turning to face her. He looked down at where your hands entwined and raised his eyebrow before looking back at her with a smile. “Oh, you two were– right, right, no, yeah.” He stuttered. You looked at him, confusion written all over your face.
“No, Steve–” Robin tried, but he stopped her.
“We’ll just get right out of your way,” He continued, grabbing the girl and dragging her out of the bathroom. It was almost like there was some kind of secret message floating between the two of them that couldn’t be spoken aloud; or at least not in front of you.
Robin rolled her eyes as she pulled you into the bathroom, shutting the door behind her. She grabbed a couple pieces of toilet paper before wetting them under the tap. She moved to pat the paper against your shirt but stopped herself before awkwardly handing the paper to you instead. You took it from her with a smile and slowly began trying to get the stain out of your shirt.
You patted the paper against your shirt a couple more times before tossing it onto the sink. Robin looked at you.
“Yeah, I don’t think it’s gonna come out.” You added, breaking the silence.
“Wouldn’t be the first thing to not–” She paused. “Never mind.” She grabbed the scrunched-up piece of paper and bent down, holding it close to where the stain sat. She paused and looked up at you, “Can I..?”
“Oh yeah, sure, go for it.” You said. She gently pressed the paper against the stain, testing the waters, before lifting it back up and doing it again. She pulled away and stood up straight, nodding her head toward the counter. "Up."
"What?"
"Sit on the counter, it'll be easier for me." She instructed, nodding to the sink once more. You stared at her for a moment, your lips parted slightly and your eyebrows raised. "I said, sit on the counter." She added, her tone growing sterner. You quickly obliged, lifting your butt on top of the counter. Your feet dangled above the ground as you looked at Robin. She smiled at you before moving her hand to your face and gently pushing a stray hair behind your ear, "Good girl." Your cheeks reddened at the praise, undoubtedly noticeable.
She pulled away, grabbing some more paper towel before wetting it under the sink. She tried at the stain for a bit, awkwardly shifting the towel around your chest, making sure to avoid certain areas. Although she seemed to get more of the stain out than you did, it still wasn’t enough.
“Yeah, I don’t think it’s coming out.” She spoke, throwing the paper down. You giggled with a nod, looking down at your dangling feet.
“Yeah.”
“I’ll buy you a new shirt.” She said. You could tell by the tone of her voice that she wasn’t offering, she was stating.
It was just now that you realised you had somehow managed to get you and Robin in a room, alone. Your eyes glanced around the room, looking for something to strike up a conversation and keep her here.
“I thought Steve was your boyfriend.” You blurted out. You bit your lip anxiously as you waited for her response. She let out a small laugh but that did nothing to ease the tension you held in your body, begging for her to say what you had been waiting for this whole time.
“Nope, not my boyfriend.” She answered, picking up the wet paper and tossing it into the bin.
“Oh, so, do you have a boyfriend?” You asked, looking at her nervously.
“No.”
“Do you want a boyfriend?” You questioned, your composure slipping. She turned to face you with a smirk.
“Why do you wanna know so badly?” Robin asked.
“I– I don’t!”
“Well, you seem to be getting a little worked up about it.” She said, looking your body up and down. You now noticed how hard you were squeezing your hands, how clenched your jaw was and how high up your shoulders sat.
“I’m not worked up, I’m just–” You paused, searching for the right words to say. You relaxed your body, letting your shoulders fall as you let go of your palms with a defeated sigh.
“Just what, baby girl?” She said, tilting her head slightly like she knew she had power over you right now. The nickname sent shivers up your spine as you stared back at her, unable to get any words out.
Her fingertips gently grazed the top of your thighs, slowly getting closer to the end of your skirt. As your heart began to speed up, your eyes trailed down her face from her eyes to her lips. You bit your lip, lost in a trance at the feeling of her touching you.
"You gonna answer me, pretty girl?" She asked, raising both of her eyebrows. Her fingers danced along the edges of your skirt, playing with the hem gently. You blinked, looking back at her eyes and realising how she had shifted closer to you.
"I– um, I'm just–" You tried, unable to think with her hands on your body. She looked up at you, blinking innocently as her fingers slipped underneath your skirt and slowly inched closer to where you wanted to feel her the most.
"Can't think straight?" Robin asked, pouting at you mockingly. 'Literally' You thought. Your legs subconsciously parted, allowing her to move her body between them while her fingers crawled up your thigh. Her eyes stayed focused on yours, raising her eyebrows as if to ask for consent. You panted softly, nodding desperately for her. Her fingers moved to trace the outline of your panties, teasing you slowly.
"R–Robin," You breathed. Your eyes glued to her lips, wanting them on yours.
"What is it, baby?" She asked, tauntingly.
"I– I need–" You tried, gasping once you felt her fingertips gently grazing over your panties.
"What? What do you need?" She replied, keeping her eyes locked on your face. She cupped your chin with her other hand and titled your head to look at her eyes. "Tell me what you want, pretty girl." Her thumb trailed over your bottom lip before pulling it down gently.
"I want you."
"Hmm, I'm afraid you're gonna have to be a little bit more detailed than that, sweetheart." She taunted, running her fingers along your covered pussy. Your cheeks flushed red, not wanting to say the words aloud. "Aw, don't be embarrassed, baby," She cooed. She moved her face closer to yours, whispering in your ear, "I just want to hear you say it."
"P–Please, Robin–" You whimpered, trying to move your throbbing pussy that begged for more attention, closer to her fingers. "Please just touch me,"
"Where?"
"Robin!" You whined, throwing your head back.
"Alright, alright, shhh." She chuckled, slipping her fingers under your panties. Her fingers swirled around your wetness, “Fuck, you’re so wet for me baby.” You lifted your head when you felt the cool metal of her rings mixed with the warmth of her hands trail over your clit softly before moving lower. "Shh, you like that, beautiful?" She asked. You nodded desperately at her words, wanting more. "Wow, so desperate, so eager," She snaked her arm around your waist, helping to keep you steady, "I didn't know you were so– dirty."
"Mmm– please, Robin," You moaned, moving your hips against her hands as she rubbed slow circles around your entrance. The circles grew smaller and smaller until her fingers were pressing against your hole. You gasped when you felt one finger enter you, your eyes closing.
“W–Wait,” You whimpered. Her finger froze as her concerned eyes glanced up at your face. “Your rings.” She looked down at where her finger sat inside of you, only halfway in; the ring on her fingers pressed against your pussy lips.
“Hmm, maybe I should keep them on.” She said, smirking at you. “I mean, you wanted my fingers so badly, didn’t you?”
A wave of embarrassment flushed over you, making your cheeks turn red. She slowly eased her finger in, the coolness from the metal rings adding new sensations. She watched your face closely, making sure you liked what she was doing.
When all she was met with was moans and soft whimpers, she knew you were okay. She pushed in another, gently thrusting the two digits inside of you.
“That’s it, baby, you like that?” She asked. You nodded, wrapping your arms around her neck and holding her close as she fingered you. You pulled on the back of her neck, wanting to feel her lips on yours, and she obliged. She kissed you softly before pulling away, her eyes scanning your face for reassurance, before reattaching her lips to yours.
Her fingers thrusted faster into you, dragging a moan out of your mouth and into the kiss. You pulled away to let out another, letting your head fall back in pleasure. She licked her bottom lip as she smiled, watching you squirm and moan from her fingers. "I can't wait to see that pretty little face when you cum for me." She whispered into your ear. You felt your orgasm building as she curled her fingers, hitting that spot you never could.
"Oh!" You gasped, moans trailing after. Suddenly, she slowly started to slow her movements, taking your peak away from you. "R–Robin," You whined, moving your hips against her fingers to try and get more. She held your waist firmly, keeping you in place.
"Shh, pretty girl, I know." She said softly. "You were getting close, weren't you?" You looked away from her and bit your lip. She chuckled at your embarrassment, "Oh I know, sweetheart, but I have an idea I want to try." You lifted your eyes to meet hers as her free hand roamed your body. "I want you to fuck yourself on my fingers," Robin continued. A small whimper escaped from your lips at her words, making her smile grow even more.
"Oh, you like that?" She asked, teasingly moving her fingers inside of you. You rested your head against her shoulder, hiding your embarrassed face from her. "Oh, it's okay, baby," Her voice laced with condescending undertones and her torturously slow fingers making you squirm and whine. "Look at me." You peeled your face away from her shoulder and looked at her. "Good girl." She whispered, looking at your body up and down. Your legs clenched against her at the praise, making her attention immediately focus back onto your face.
"You like being called a good girl?" Robin teased. She leaned in closer to your ear, "Or do you like being my good girl?" Your body shuddered, signalling just how much you wanted her. She let out a small laugh and began slowly kissing your neck. She pulled away, "Go ahead baby, make yourself cum on my fingers." She whispered. You bit your lip and slowly started thrusting your hips against her fingers. Robin looked down at where her fingers met with your body, groaning softly at the sight of her rings hitting the edges of your pussy; sometimes slipping in.
"Thats it, good girl," She praised, slowly starting to help you move your hips. "Ride my fingers, thats it," You rocked back and forth on her fingers, letting out soft moans and gasps at the pleasure. "Mmm, so pretty," Her hand rubbed around your waist, feeling the curvatures of your body. "You like that? You like feeling my fingers inside of you?" She teased, kissing your jaw.
"Yes, so good– it's so good." You moaned, your brows furrowing as you tried to grind against her faster. Your hips moved greedily, trying to make yourself cum on her fingers. You looked desperate. You felt your body getting tired, no longer having the same energy to keep up with what you wanted. "Robin~" You cried, pouting at her. She raised an eyebrow before mockingly pouting back at you.
"What is it, my sweet girl?" She asked, titling her head as you moved against her fingers. "You getting tired?" Her words teased and mocked you, making you feel like desperate pet, but you loved it. You nodded, tears pooling in your eyes at your own frustration. "Can't make yourself cum on my fingers, baby?"
"I need more– I need you–" You begged, your movements slowing. She cupped your face, pushing your hair behind your ears.
"Oh I know, baby, I know," Robin said, nodding slowly with a teasing frown. "You just look so pretty when you beg." She started thrusting her fingers again. Your frustrated pout curled into a smile, moaning at the pleasure she was giving you. "You just relax and let me take care of you, okay?" She pressed her lips against yours slowly.
"Yes, yes, thank you!" You moaned, throwing your head back. A part of you was embarrassed to be acting like this, so desperate, but the other part didn't care. She pressed down on your lower belly as her fingers moved faster.
"Is my pretty girl gonna cum for me?"
"Y-yes! Oh, yes, please!" You yelled, starting to move your pussy against her fingers again. She began trailing kisses down your neck.
"Shhh, baby girl, you gotta be quiet," She added before sucking on your collar bone and definitely leaving a mark. "We wouldn't want anyone to know what we're doing in here, would we?" You shook your head as you bit your lip, trying to quiet your moans. You could feel your orgasm building as your eyes rolled back and your desperate moans turned to open-mouthed silence.
Robin looked at you, nodding with a smile as you started to fall apart on her fingers. "Yes, baby, thats it," She encouraged, thrusting through your orgasm. "Cum for me, baby, cum all over my fingers." You smacked your hand over your mouth, silencing the moans that emerged from your throat as you shook uncontrollably. "Oh baby, you look so pretty cumming on my fingers," She continued, watching your face contort with pleasure. "Good girl, keep cumming all over yourself." Your eyes shut tightly as waves of pleasure crashed through you repeatedly.
Your hand raced to grab her wrist as the pleasure began to overwhelm you, but your strength was no match for hers. She continued thrusting her fingers into you through your orgasm, making you shake and moan uncontrollably. You desperately squirmed trying to get away from the pleasure she was giving you; the sensation becoming too much.
“R–Robin I–” You whined as she held you still. She pressed her forehead to yours, still forcing her fingers in and out of your hole.
“Shh baby, you’re okay, you did so good.” She whispered before gently leaning down to kiss your lips. Your moans and whines were muffled by her mouth on yours; her firm grip around your waist stubborn. You wrapped your arms around the back of her neck as you moaned into the kiss, annoyed when you felt her lips pull away with a smirk. “You just look so pretty when you cum.” She said. The power she held over you was strong, stronger than either of you had realised.
As your high began to fade, Robin slowly started to ease her movements before gently pulling her fingers out of you, making you wince.
“Damn,” She pants, running her hands down your thighs as she pulls herself away. “You gonna say thank you, baby girl?” Her voice makes you shiver. You bit your lip as your cheeks flush red once more.
“T–Thank you.” You choke out.
“I wish you could see how fucking hot that was from my perspective.” She adds. You look away from her eyes, unable to bear the butterflies filling your stomach again. “Aw, you’re gonna act all shy now?” She asks, letting out a small laugh. “Baby, I just made you cum on my fingers, there's no need to be shy now.” Her lips formed a smirk that taunted you.
She knew the effect her words had on you. That's why it's so easy for her to be so confident and domineering around you. She loved how flustered you’d get at her flirty comments and not-so-friendly ‘accidental’ touches. She had you wrapped around her finger. Literally.
You gently pushed at her chest, rolling your eyes. You placed your hands on either side of the counter below you and gently slid yourself off. Robin pulled at your skirt, readjusting it to cover more of your legs. You were now both standing, facing each other with Robin towering over you. The two of you looked at each other for a moment as the room filled with silence. You fought against the urge to say something, too afraid to say the wrong thing.
You sighed with a nod, too nervous to say anything else, before turning toward the door to open it. She grabbed your waist, flinging you back around to face her and pressing you up against the door.
“You’re just going to leave me here like this, baby?” She asked, furrowing her brows and pressing her body into you. “Or are you going to return the favour?”

In Hawkins, it was difficult to present yourself in certain ways. Everyone wore the same outfit, and haircut, and listened to the same music, so, if you did anything differently, you seemed like an alien. strange and unusual. a select few of the students at Hawkins High would change it up and embrace the strange and unusual, whether it be wearing bright colors or staying up till the next morning to paint a mural outside the school.
With a week off of school during Robin's senior year, and after months of convincing, she finally lets you cut her hair. Although it was short before, you thought she would look great with it just a few inches shorter. Robin was stern on that was as short as it would get, not wanting to be taunted anymore at the school, however, your kind words and friendly affection were able to assure the girl of her decision.
"Rob, just settle down," you laugh, your voice echoing in the small, already messy bathroom, "It's just your hair, it'll grow back,"
"no, no, you do not understand." Robin's voice shakes, her hands waving frantically as she allows herself to sit on the stool placed in front of the mirror, "my hair is like, like one of my only redeeming qualities, I've worked hard on this," With a shake of your head and a soft giggle, you gently brush the girl's hair, laying it flat. your eyes fall on the nervous girl in the mirror, the way her cheeks become rosy from the nerves and constant soft touches. It made you feel like you needed to go run a mile to get your thoughts away.
Robin's voice snapped you out of your thoughts when she handed the scissors to you, "just get it over already, you were so excited an hour ago," she jokes, looking up at you through the mirror. "it's just making me more nervous,"
"Don't be so dramatic," you speak softly, taking the scissors and eyeing the correct length for the new cut. With a now nervous composure, you cut the back of her hair, watching as the light auburn hair fell to the tile. "Oh my goodness," you snicker, "is it too late to tell you I've never done this before?" a quick gasp from Robin sounds as you both burst into a fit of giggles.
just a few moments later, the basic outline of her hair is done. Cutting it to the correct length, a few inches off so it sits just above her chin, perfect all the way around. "It looks so weird!" the girl smiles, running her hands through it, "it's different but I kinda like it," she moves her head around in the mirror, surveying each side and shaking the loose hairs to the counter.
"Well, I think it looks rather nice, Buckley," you smirk, looking down at her as she sits back on the stool, facing you. Her legs straddle the back of the seat, a smug look on her face. The look sends a feeling through your body, she's never looked at you like this, and you weren't sure how to feel about it. "just need to finish a few things," you quickly mumble, your hands returning to the girl's hair to craft some layers and trim her bangs. "There,"
without thinking, your touch lingers as your hand gently waves through the girl's hair, Robin's eyes never leaving yours. The crash of the scissors leaving your hand snaps you both out of your thoughts. "T-thank you," Robin says softly, looking nervously at her hands resting on the back of the stool. "maybe this will be my new look," a few moments pass as you both giggle to one another before she speaks up again, "What's got you so nervous?"
you swiftly shake your head, beginning to nervously clean up. placing the scissors back in the drawer, and grabbing the broom from the corner. "I'm not nervous," you laugh softly, watching as Robin stands from the stool, "Just glad your hair turned out good, that's all." your shoulders shrug as you bring the curling iron out from the cabinet. "Here, sit," she begins to speak but with a gentle shove, she sits back down.
Trying with every ounce of your being, you can't bring yourself to speak a single word, scared of saying something that could ruin everything. You're not sure when you found Robin, just one day at school she spoke to you during an art course and the girl just kinda stuck. But it's safe to stay it was one of the best things that has ever happened. You go to family videos every Monday night to accompany the girl during her slow shift, which consists of gossip and jokingly flirting. But when or how did that flirting change into something else? Into actually liking one another, it feels stupid to even believe that the girl might like you back.
"hey, hey!" Robin states, snapping her fingers and looking up at you with a concerned face, "You alright?" the girl's eyes fall back to the curling iron, the light switching to green signaling it's finished heating, "you're quiet, you can talk to me you know." Robin was never like this, seemingly concerned and thoughtful, her hand resting on mine gently. The cold metal from her rings made my eyes meet hers. "If you're worried about the haircut, I like it, It's cool, promise." the girl begins to ramble and the only thing you could bring yourself to do was just shake your head.
"Rob," you state, not meaning for your voice to become so assertive, "Yeah, yeah, I'm fine, just thinking," a small chuckle leaves your lips as a hand reaches down for the iron, Robin quickly faces the mirror again. the girl looked nervous, pulling one of her knees up to her chest before looking up at the mirror, watching intently as my hands curl her hair. "after you curl it, it should be good for a few days," you mumble, finishing the styling at her bangs, the hair falling perfectly on her forehead. "W-what?"
"You're nice to watch," a gentle smirk makes its way to her face, her body turning around to face you as you place the iron back on the marble counter. "Like, like that came out weird, you're just nice to watch when you're focused. your face scrunches up and you stand on your tiptoes," her words make you take a step back before she shakes her hair out, fanning it out in a perfect style. "You got to teach me how to do that,"
Robin doesn't know what she had just said to you, what she has just made you feel. "thank you," a deep breath leaves your lips from unknowingly holding it in, "I-I can teach you now," with a quick nod from the girl, she grabs the iron, looking up at you before turning to the mirror once again. hesitantly, a hand wraps around the other girls, guiding the open iron to a section and gently helping Robin curl it. As the hair sets, our eyes meet in the mirror, your hand returning to your side as you back away. "There, easy, you already know it,"
The way Robin’s smile seemed to drop as your hands left one another, made you feel like you were just scolded. “I trusted you this whole time, I was just afraid,” Robin mumbles, shaking her head as she nervously picks at her nails. “I trust you with my life, with everything, you have done so much for me, I just didn’t know hair was going to be my breaking point,” With a confused expression, your eyes meet hers once again. “Crazy,”
“Rob,” the name seems to ring through the small tiled room before you speak up once again, your eyes shutting tightly. After a few moments, you let out a deep breath before placing a short kiss on the girl's cheek. “I trust you too, don't wor-” Robin cuts you off,
“You missed,” she states, matter of factly, my eyes snapping down to hers, a playful but nervous smile presented at me, “you missed,” Robin says again, shrugging her shoulders as she stands, kicking the stool over a few inches. You feel your face return to that familiar blush, chills echoing through your bones as her presence comes closer.
Your lips touch. Your lips touch and you could forget anything that has happened in the world. Your lips touch and they are Robin’s, the girl you have come to adore in such a short amount of time but love every ounce of. Then, before you know it, your lips pull away.
Robin’s vanilla chapstick lingers, the girl’s teeth pulling on her lip as she tucks her hands into her pockets. She leans against the counter as you shake your head in disbelief. “You are a tease, Robin Buckley,” you chuckle, gently kicking her shoe, “I come to cut your hair and leave with a kiss? Bold move,”
“Hey, don’t do that, you started it!” she returns, smiling brightly, her perfect crooked smile, “I'd let you cut my hair more often if this is what an appointment is,” you quickly gasp before looking up at her, your arms resting around her shoulders gently.
“You're such an idiot, Buckley,” you roll your eyes before pressing another kiss to the girl's lips, smiling as they connect. “How could I ever say no to you? Plus, I think you make this short hair look great, I'll be happy to be of your service”
The girl shakes her head, attempting to hide her blushed freckled face, her voice soft as she speaks, “Can I book next week?”

Summary: You got expelled from your last school and your family moves to Hawkins for a fresh start. Your parents make you get a job during the summer to stay out of trouble.
—
You trudge into Starcourt mall, hands shoved into the front pockets of your jeans. The voice of your mom echoes in your head: “Don’t you dare come back to this house until you have a job.”. You let out a sigh as you look around the mall. You spot an ice cream shop, Scoops Ahoy. “Should be pretty easy,” You mutter to yourself.
You walk over to the ice cream shop, getting in line behind a group of girls.
“Ahoy, ladies! Would you like to set sail on this ocean of flavor with me? I’ll be your captain, I’m Steve Harrington!”
The girls look between each other and giggle, and you watch the guy’s face drop. The girls whisper between each other and decide to leave. The window in the back opens and a girl is holding a white board. Written on the board is “YOU RULE” and “YOU SUCK”, with “you suck” having about ten tally marks and “you rule” having none. The girl adds another tally mark to the “you suck” side and the boy sighs.
“Welcome to scoops ahoy,” The boy turns to you. “What can I get you?”
You glance at the girl holding the whiteboard, and make eye contact with her. You immediately look away and to the boy. “Uhm, I was wondering if you guys are hiring?”
The boy nods. “Sure are! Do you think you’re ready for some super, sweet, ultra ice cream scooping?” The boy places both hands on the counter and eyes you down.
“What he meant to say,” The girl rounds from the back of the store to the counter, “Is your hired.”
You raise your eyebrows, “Really? That easy?”
The girl shrugs. “Yeah, it’s summer, we could use an extra hand.”
“What’s your name?” The boy asks.
“Y/N.”
“I’m Robin, and this is-”
“Steve Harrington?” You say with a small smirk.
“The one and only!” Steve says.
Robin goes into the back briefly and then comes back with a uniform. She tosses it to you and you catch it. “Come back in tomorrow at nine, we’ll get you started with training.”
“See you tomorrow!” Steve says with a wave.
“See ya,” You say with a nod before turning and walking out.
—
You walk into scoop ahoy in the sailors outfit, and you feel silly. You see Robin and Steve in the back. You watch as Steve throws his head back with laughter and Robin slaps him on the arm. Robin looks over and sees you. She smiles and waves at you.
“Y/N!” Robin makes her way from the back of the store to the front, with Steve in tow.
“You ready to scoop some ice cream?” Steve asks enthusiastically.
You nod.
“I’ll be training you today, so you aren’t stuck with this dingus,” Robin says, pointing over at Steve.
“Hey!” Steve says with a pout.
“So,” Robin says, walking up to the ice cream bar. “This is the ice cream selection we have.” She gestures to the ice cream. “Vanilla, chocolate, strawberry, cherry, rocky road, and butter pecan. Pretty simple.” Robin grabs an ice cream scoop. “There is a technique to scooping the ice cream,” Robin says, reaching down towards the tub of vanilla. “You want to dig into the ice cream, and then pull back hard, and then…” Robin pulls the ice cream scoop up, “You get the perfect scoop!” Robin slaps the ice cream back down into the tub and hands you the scoop. “Your turn.”
You grab the scoop from Robin’s hand and your fingers brush her hand. You quickly retreat your hand with the scoop and look down at the ice cream. You reach into the ice cream tub with the scoop and do what Robin said. You pull the ice cream scoop up and see a small ball of ice cream, compared to Robin’s big one.
“Here, let me,” Robin says, wrapping her hand around yours on the scoop. She guides your hand down to the ice cream tub. She guides you through the technique and you pull the scoop up with a nice big scoop of ice cream. “See! Look at that!” Robin lets go of your hand. “Go ahead and try a few more times!”
—
“You did really well today,” Steve says as the three of you walk out of the mall together.
“Yeah you did!” Robin exclaims. “I’d say you’re better than Steve!”
You laugh. “Thanks!”
“We’re going to go grab a bite, do you want to join?” Steve asks.
You glance down at your watch, you’re on a curfew, but you really want to continue hanging with the duo. You smile, “I’d love to.”
“Yes! The scoop troop is going out!” Steve celebrates.
“I rode my bike here, so I can just meet you wherever we’re going.” You point over to your bike that’s locked to the bike rack.
“Absolutely not!” Robin says. “Your bike will fit in Steve’s trunk, right Steve?”
Steve nods. “It should.”
“Are you sure? I really don’t mind riding my bike.” You’d hate to be a bother.
“Nonsense! Come on!” Robin grabs your wrist and drags you to the bike rack.
You unlock your bike from the bike rack and wheel your bike to Steve’s car. Steve grabs your bike from you and carefully puts it in the trunk of his car. “Hop in!” Steve says twirling his keys.
The three of you hop in Steve’s car, with Robin in the passenger seat and you sitting behind Steve. The drive to the diner is quick and the three of you head inside. Steve and Robin sit on one side of the booth and you sit across from them.
“So,” Steve says, leaning his elbows on the table. “Why Scoops Ahoy?”
You glance up from the menu and see Steve and Robin staring at you.
“Uhm…my family just moved here and my parents made me get a job.” You glance back down at the menu. “They want to teach me a lesson.”
“A lesson?” Robin asks.
You look back up at the duo. “Yeah, I, uhm,” You swallow. “I got expelled from my previous school.”
“What for?” Robin asks, looking at you.
“I got into a fight with another kid at school.”
“Well, did you kick her ass?” Steve asks with a raised brow.
“I kicked his ass,” You say with a small smirk.
“Woah! You fought a dude?” Steve says. He holds his hand out for a hi-five. “That’s sick!” You hi-five Steve with a smile.
“Why did you fight him?”
You return your attention back to Robin. “I…that’s a story for another time.” You just met them. You can’t ruin a new friendship with your secret.
“Awe come on!” Steve groans. “What a total cliffhanger!”
Robin elbows Steve in the side. “Respect her boundaries, dingus!”
—
A Few Weeks Later
You and Robin are working alone today. Steve is out of town for the week on a family vacation before summer is over. The three of you have gotten a lot closer and hang out at any possible chance.
You and Robin are sitting in the back of the store as it’s been a slow day at work. The window is closed, ready to be opened at a ring of the bell sitting on the counter. Robin’s feet are propped up on another chair sitting across from her. You’re sitting next to her, with your feet propped up on her legs.
“You never told us why you got in a fight with that kid.” Robin shoves the ice cream spoon in her mouth. “I’m intrigued,” Robin says, taking the spoon out of her mouth.
“Oh, yeah,” You say with a shrug. “I guess I never did.”
“Come on!” Robin begs. “You said it’s a story for another time, and guess what! It’s another time!”
You sigh and pull your legs from where they were propped on Robin’s. You look at Robin. “He started in.” You tap your finger nervously on your knees. “He found out…that I’m not into guys.”
—
Flashback
“Get back here, Y/L/N!”
You run through the hallways of your school, dodging the other kids. You look over your shoulder to see the school bully hot on your tail. You come to a complete stop and fall to the floor. You look in front of you and see one of the other football players towering above you.
“Gotcha!” You're pulled to your feet by the collar of your shirt and immediately thrown at the lockers behind you.
“I can’t believe you thought my girlfriend was into you!” The boys around you laugh. “I didn’t realize a faggot went to our school!” A punch is thrown at you, your head ricocheting back into the locker.
You kick your foot out, sweeping the legs of the bully. He falls to the ground hard. The students watching all gasp.
“You’re going to pay for that!”
Before he can stand up, you kick the bully in the face. He groans and clutches his jaw with his hand. “Are you all just going to stand around? Do something!” He bosses his fellow teammates around.
“We can’t risk our scholarships, dude! You’re on your own!” The few teammates that are around quickly leave the area.
You’re quick to kick the bully in his side while he’s still down, in shock that his teammates left him.
He quickly gets to his feet before you can kick him again. “You’re going to regret that!” He grabs a fistful of your shirt and swings you around, throwing you into the lockers on the other side of the hallway.
He knees you in the stomach. You hunch over, the air being knocked out of you. He takes the advantage, and sends his knee into your face. You groan in pain.
You throw a punch, your fist connecting with his jaw. You throw another punch, and another, and another, and another. You throw one final punch, sending the bully onto the ground, unconscious.
—
“Do you hate me?” You ask, looking at Robin.
“Oh, Y/N, you’re so oblivious,” Robin says with a chuckle. “It wasn’t a secret, well not to me. Steve’s a little dumb.”
“W..what?”
“I’ve seen the way you look at me or the way you react whenever we make contact. You weren’t discreet.”
“So…You don’t hate me?” You ask again.
Robin moves closer to you, her face inches from yours. Your eyes glance down at her lips, before quickly looking back at her eyes. Robin smirks before closing the gap. After a few seconds, Robin pulls back. “Does that answer your question?”

Chapter One
You’re walking through the halls of Hawkins High, making your way to your study hall, your backpack slung over one shoulder.
“Yo, Y/L/N, you ready for the game tonight?” A student shouts out.
You smile at the student, and turn around, walking backwards as you look at them. “You know it!”
You’re pretty popular at Hawkins High. You’re the softball team’s number one player, and you and everyone at the school knows that. You tried out for the team when you were a freshman and immediately made the team. Now, two years later, you’re the team captain.
You pass by the band room, and look in. You lean against the door as you watch them practice. You’re a huge fan of the band, loving the tunes they play during the softball games. One of the trumpet players turns around and looks at you. Robin Buckley. She gives you a small smile, which you return. She’s always caught your eye, ever since you saw her in your English class back when you were a freshman, but you weren’t sure why.
Two hands slap down on your shoulders. “Y/N, let’s goooooo! We need to get to study hall!” Your friend Nancy tugs on your letterman jacket.
“Okay, I’m coming!” You give Robin another small smile before turning and leaving.
You and Nancy walk through the hall together, making your way to study hall. You and Nancy met last year. She’s a part of the cheer team and one of your teammates introduced the two of you. The two of you became very close and have been inseparable since.
“What were you doing by the band room?” Nancy questions.
“Just listening,” You answer. “You know I like the band.”
“Like the band or one of its members?” Nancy teases with a bump to your shoulder.
You shake your head. “Nance, I’ve told you a million times, there’s no one!”
“Is it that one drummer boy? Steve?”
You raise your eyebrows at Nancy. “Really?” The two of you enter the classroom for your study hall. “Why can’t you just trust me that there’s no one?”
“Because, you’re the softball team’s star player, and you could have anyone you want!” The two of you sit at a table together. “So, it’s hard for me to believe that there’s no one!”
You roll your eyes. “Well, there’s no one.” You start pulling your textbooks out of your backpack and set them on the table.
“Whatver you say, Y/N, but I can’t wait to say ‘I told you so’ when you and Steve start dating!”
You chuckle, knowing that’s never going to happen. “If you say so, Nance.”
—
School is finally over for the day and you’re walking through the hall to your locker. A lot of students give you light slaps on your back and shoulders as they wish you luck for the game tonight.
You finally make it to your locker and quickly grab all of your belongings before shutting your locker. You look down the hallway and walk to the other end with a smile on your face.
“Buckley!” You greet the girl as you approach her at her locker. The trumpet player looks at you as she shuts her locker. “I hope you and your band have some fun tunes for tonight!” You smile at the girl as you lean against the lockers.
She gives you a small smile and nods. “We’ve been practicing a few new songs.” Robin copies you and leans against the lockers.
“Well, I can’t wait to hear them,” You say, scratching the back of your neck. “I’m sure you sound great,” You gesture down to her instrument case that she’s holding.
Robin blushes and looks down at her feet. “I can’t wait to see you play, I know you’ll do great!” Robin glances back up at you.
It’s your turn to blush. “Thanks, Buckley,” You say, putting your hand on her shoulder, giving it a small squeeze.
“Robin! Come on! We gotta get to the pregame rehearsal!”
Robin turns around and your hand falls from her shoulder. You look over her shoulder and see Steve. She turns back to you. “Sorry, I need to go. Good luck tonight!” And she turns around and rushes off with Steve to band rehearsal.
You sigh and press your back against the lockers. You close your eyes and run your hands down your face. That’s when it hits you. “Shit, I like Buckley,” You whisper to yourself.
—
You and your team are out on the field stretching before the game. You watch as the band starts to take their place on the bleachers, looking for Robin. You watch her sit down and look out to the field. Her eyes find yours and she gives you a small wave, which you gladly return with a smile.
Once you’re down stretching, you walk to the bench on the sideline. You grab your water bottle and start chugging your water.
“Slow down, killer!” Nancy stands behind you, putting both her hands on your shoulder. She slowly starts massaging. “You okay?”
You toss your water bottle back onto the ground. “Yeah, I’m fine. Just pregame nerves.”
“You sure it has nothing to do with the band sitting behind you?” You feel your stomach tighten. “Maybe with Steve back there?”
“Nancy, I told you, I’m not into Steve!”
Nancy drops her hands from your shoulders. “So you say.”
“Again, it’s just pregame nerves,” You say, standing to look at Nancy.
“You’re not one who usually gets pregame nerves,” Nancy points out. She reaches down and rummages through your duffle. She pulls out your eyeblack stick and starts applying it to your face. “You’re going to do great! You always do!” Nancy takes a step back, admiring her work on your face.
“Well, when I have you cheering me on in that tiny skirt, how could I not,” You jokingly flirt.
“If I didn’t know any better, I’d think you’re flirting with me.” Nancy laughs.
“In your dreams, Wheeler!” You laugh with her.
—
It’s the last inning of the game, with your team up at bat. The opposing team is up by three, and with two outs on the board, and bases loaded, you’re up to bat. You grab your white and green helmet from the bench and place it over your head, before grabbing your bat that’s propped up against the fence.
You step up to home plate and ready your bat, swaying it back and forth as you await the pitch. You look down to the pitcher’s mound, watching the pitcher. You watch her arm swing back, and watch as the ball quickly leaves her hand. You swing your bat, and with a loud crack, you send the ball flying into the outfield.
You drop your bat and quickly take off towards first base. You pump your legs quickly, and once you feel the first base plate under your foot, you continue towards second, watching as your teammates continue to advance forward. You look to the outfield, watching as the players are fumbling the ball, before one of them quickly picks it up. You decide to keep running, making your way to third, and forcing your teammate to make her way towards home, officially tying the game once she touches the plate. With another quick glance, watching as the player in the outfield throws the ball to second base, you take off running towards home plate, pumping your legs faster than you ever have before. You quickly drop to the ground and slide towards home plate on your stomach, dirt flying up into your face. You feel the hardness of home plate under your fingertips and then a slap of a glove on your back.
With the dust clearing, the umpire looks down at you before taking a step back and yelling, “Safe!” Before calling the game immediately after.
Your teammates run out to you and pull you up to your feet and start cheering. The band starts playing a peppy tune, and the cheerleaders dance to it. You celebrate and cheer with your teammates with a big smile on your face.
Your team goes down a line opposite of the other team, shaking hands and saying, “good game,” as they congratulate your team on the win.
You walk to the bench and look up at the band, who’s still playing their tune. You look at Robin and take note of how happy she looks while playing her instrument.
“Hey, star player!” Nancy stands in front of you. “Good game out there!” Nancy reaches forward and takes your helmet off for you. “You’re gross and dirty,” Nancy points at your face and down at your primarily white jersey and pants.
You look down, seeing all the orange covering your front and you shrug. “So, you want a hug, right?” You ask, holding your arms out.
“Absolutely not!” Nancy shrieks.
You chuckle as the rest of your team joins you at the bench and starts collecting their belongings. “I heard on the grapevine that the team captain is throwing a party tonight!” One of your teammates says, eyeing you.
“No way! I have homework!” You say with a shake of your head.
“I don’t think you’ve ever sounded like such a loser,” Nancy says, earning a laugh from your teammates.
“Come on, Y/N! It’s Friday night!” Your teammates try to convince you.
“Okay, okay,” You sigh. “Party at my place, but you all,” You point at your teammates, “And you,” You point at Nancy, “Are all providing the alcohol. Party starts at seven.”
“Deal!”
Your teammates walk away, all of them saying goodbye before heading out. You look at Nancy, who looks at you. “I have homework,” Nancy mocks teasingly.
“I do!” You say. “I need to stay on top of my grades!”
“One party won’t kill you!” Nancy says. “You deserve this party! You can let loose! Kiss a boy!” You make a face. “You can kiss Steve,” Nancy says with a shake of her shoulders.
“Gross.”
“Well, I’ll see you later,” Nancy says. “With alcohol. I’m showing up early to get ready!” Nancy rushes off, catching up with the rest of the cheerleaders.
You look back up at the band, watching as they all pack their things up. You walk up to the half fence. “Yo, Buckley!”
Robin looks down at you and quickly makes her way down the stairs of the bleachers.
“Nice tunes today,” You say with a smile. “I loved the new ones!”
Robin smiles back at you. “Good game! That was a hell of an ending.”
You chuckle. “Yeah, it was.” You scratch the back of your neck awkwardly. “So, uhm.” You clear your throat and look down at the dirt, digging the tip of your clear into it. “I’m throwing a party tonight, if you want to come.” Robin stares at you, surprised to receive an invite. “No pressure, if you don’t want to,” You rush out.
“I’d love to come,” Robin says.
“Sweet!” You exclaim. “You can invite Steve if you’d like,” You offer.
“I’ll make sure to pass the word, I’m sure he’d love to go,” Robin says, looking back at Steve, who is waiting on Robin.
“Here, hold on,” You turn around and dig through your duffle bag until you find your pen. You grab Robin’s hand and write your address and phone number on it. “Phone number in case you have any questions or get lost. Party starts at seven!” You turn around and grab your duffle bag off the ground and throw it over your shoulder.
“I’ll see you there,” Robin says before walking back up the bleachers, meeting up with Steve, who already grabbed her trumpet case.
You sigh and walk towards the parking lot. You reach your car and toss your duffle bag into the passenger’s seat, before rounding the car and sitting in the driver’s seat. You run your hands down your face before turning the car on and driving home.

Chapter Two
You’re sitting on your bed, your math textbook open on your lap and a notebook to your side. You rapidly tap the eraser of your pencil against the textbook as you read the math problems.
“Come on, you need to get up and get ready!” Nancy stands in front of your full size mirror on the back of your door doing her makeup.
“I am ready,” You say, scribbling some math in your notebook, trying to solve the problem.
Nancy looks at you through the mirror, raising an eyebrow at you. “That’s what you’re wearing?”
You glance up at Nancy, before glancing back down at your textbook. “What’s wrong with what I’m wearing?”
Nancy turns around and looks at you, holding her eyeliner in her hand. “Nothing!”
“I’m wearing ripped jeans and a t-shirt, Nance! It’s simple!” You scribble some more in your notebook. “You obviously think something is wrong with it, so speak up.”
“It’s just…boring!” Nancy says. She turns back to the mirror, continuing to do her makeup.
You sigh and slide your textbook off your lap. You stand up from your bed and move to your closet. You grab your letterman jacket and pull it onto your body. “There, is that better?”
Nancy glances at you. “Yeah, nothing says less boring than school spirit,” Nancy teases.
You roll your eyes at her. “Well, this is the most I’m doing.” You sit back down on your bed and pull your textbook back onto your lap to continue doing your homework. Your textbook is quickly ripped off of your lap and tossed onto the other side of your bed. “Hey!” You complain.
“No more homework!” Nancy says. “I’m done getting ready, you’re done getting ready, and the party doesn’t start for another thirty minutes!”
“So? That’s perfect to continue doing homework!” You argue, reaching to grab your textbook.
Nancy lightly slaps your hand reaching for the textbook. “Soooo,” Nancy grabs your hands and pulls you to your feet. “We’re going to pregame! I brought tequila!” You grimace. “Oh come on! You love tequila!” Nancy grabs your converse from your closet and tosses them to you. “Put your party shoes on and let’s go!”
You quickly pull your shoes on, knowing you’ll need them for the party later, and follow Nancy out of your room, making sure to close the door behind you. You follow Nancy downstairs and sit down on the couch as she walks to your kitchen to retrieve the alcohol she brought. She plops down on the couch next to you, and opens the bottle of tequila, taking a sip.
“Parents out of town again?” Nancy asks, passing you the bottle of tequila.
You nod and take a big sip of the tequila. “Always are.” You take another big sip before passing the bottle back to Nancy.
You and your parents aren’t very close, and never have been. They’re always out of town on a business trip or some random vacation that they never invited you to. They’d be sure to leave you some money on the counter for your groceries while they were away. They’d come back from a trip late at night, and then leave town again early the next morning. You didn’t hate them, but you wish they’d be around more.
Nancy sighs. “At least you can throw parties whenever you want.” Nancy tries to shine a light on the situation. “You throw the best parties!”
You reach forward and snatch the bottle back from her. “I guess.” You shrug, taking a swig of tequila. “I just wish they were around for my big achievements or to watch me play at my games.” You shake your head and put the bottle to your lips, tipping it up and chugging the liquid.
Nancy watches you for a moment before reaching forward and grabbing the bottle from your hand. “Alright, killer, slow it down!”
You wipe your mouth with the back of your hand. “Sorry,” You apologize. “Got a little carried away.”
Nancy puts a hand on your knee. “You know you’re always welcome at my place, my parents love you!”
You smile at Nancy. “Thanks, Nance.”
“Of course!” Nancy returns the smile. She looks at you for a moment. “There’s something bothering you.”
“What?” You ask with a raised eyebrow. “No!”
“Y/N, I’ve known you for a year! I can tell when something is bothering you!”
You sigh. “I’m fine, Nance!” You take the bottle back from her and take a sip.
“You can talk to me!” Nancy tries to get you to talk.
“I know, there’s nothing to tell you!”
“If you say so,” Nancy says, eyeing you.
You and Nancy are quick to finish the bottle of tequila within the thirty minutes you had to pregame. You set the empty bottle of tequila on the coffee table, and look over at Nancy.
“Oh you’re so drunk already!” Nancy laughs, pointing a finger at you.
“Am not!” You argue, your words slightly slurred and vision starting to get blurry.
“You’re such a lightweight!” Nancy teases.
Your front door opens and your teammates quickly enter the house, holding up tons of alcohol, plenty of both bottles of liquor and cases of beer. A bunch of students from school also walk through your front door.
“Woah! Looks like Y/L/N and Wheeler have already started!” One of your teammates exclaims, pointing at the empty tequila bottle.
Nancy stands up, “Just a little pregame!”
All your teammates go to the kitchen, dropping off all the alcohol they brought onto the counters. You slowly stand from the couch and follow them to the kitchen.
“Y/N, where’s your table? I can go set up beer pong!” The teammate holds up the pack of red solo cups.
“Table is in the garage,” You point in the direction of your garage.
“Sweet! Someone come help me!” Two of your teammates rush to the garage to get the table.
“I’ll get the music set up in the living room,” Nancy says.
“And I’ll set it up in the backyard!” Another teammate says, rushing off.
You watch as the two teammates walk through the house and to the backyard with the foldable table. You open a case of beer and grab a can quickly cracking it open and taking a sip. You look as fellow students continue to walk through your front door, quickly joining the party.
You sigh, not seeing Robin amongst the students and grab another can of beer before walking to the living room, seeing Nancy hook her phone up to a bluetooth speaker. Loud music quickly starts playing through the speaker, and she puts it on the coffee table.
“Like the tunes?” Nancy asks. You nod, handing Nancy the extra beer you grabbed. She opens the beer and holds it out, “Cheers to a fun night!”
You tap your can against hers, “Too a good night!”
—
You sway as you walk to the backyard with Nancy quick in tow. “Slow down!” Nancy slurs! You step into your backyard and walk up to the beerpong table.
“Look who’s finally here!” One of your teammates exclaims. “Finally ready to play?”
You nod. “As long as you’re ready to lose!”
“In your dreams!”
You and Nancy step to one side of the table, opposite of your teammates. You grab a fresh beer from the case that’s being kept by the table, and open it before refilling the red solo cups on your side of the table.
You and Nancy do absolutely terrible at beer ping, missing just about every throw you’ve made. Meanwhile, your teammates make almost every throw that they take.
“And that’s another one!” Drink up!” Your teammates cheer on the other side of the table.
You sigh and pick up the cup. You take the pingpong ball out of the cup before quickly downing the beer and setting the empty cup off to the side of the table. You take note of the last cup you and Nancy have left on your side, and glance across the table, seeing all the cups still laid out.
While Nancy lines up her shot, you feel eyes on you. You glance around the backyard and see Robin stepping into the backyard, looking at you, with Steve at her side.
“Hey! Take your shot!” Nancy elbows you in the side.
You focus back on the game and look at the very blurry cups across the table. You take a deep breath and throw the pingpong ball. You groan as it bounces off the rim of one of the cups and off the table.
You look over at Nancy, and she laughs. “Oh you’re so gone!” You nod, not even being able to deny that you’re drunk.
“Hope you two are ready to lose!” Your teammate taunts, throwing the pingpong ball.
You groan as the ball splashes into the beer. You look at Nancy who shakes her head. “That one is on your side of the table, so drink up!” Nancy pats you on the shoulder.
You grab the cup and chug the beer, feeling some of it dribble down your chin. You set the cup back down on the table. “Good game, guys!” You say.
“Maybe you two will get us next time!” Your teammate says. “Who’s next!” She calls out.
You and Nancy step away from the table and Nancy gasps. “I see Jonathan from the yearbook club! I’ll catch up with you later!” Nancy says before rushing off.
You walk over to Robin, who’s talking with Steve.
“Hey! You made it!”
“Hi!” Robin says. “Sorry we’re late.”
“You’ve got a little beer on your chin,” Steve says, pointing it out.
“Oh!” You grab the bottom of your shirt and wipe the beer from your chin, not missing the way Robin looks at your exposed stomach. You let go of your shirt and let it fall back down. “Sorry about that!” You chuckle. “Can I get you two a drink?” You ask, noticing they don’t have drinks.
“Not for me,” Steve says. “Designated driver.” Steve nudges Robin, “But Robin can definitely drink!”
“Uhm, yeah, sure,” Robin says, running a hand through her hair. “I’ll take one!”
“Come on!” You grab Robin’s hand and pull her into the house, and stumble your way to the kitchen.
You step into the kitchen and grab a beer. You hand it to Robin and grab another one for yourself. You crack it open and hold it up. “Cheers!”
Robin touches your can with hers, “Cheers!” She smiles at you. You lean against the counter and sway. “How much have you had to drink?” Robin asks.
“Too much,” You joke.
“You’re so drunk,” Robin points out with a smile.
“Am not!” You whine. Robin laughs at you.
You grab Robin’s free hand and drag her out of the kitchen and into your loud living room. You plop down on the couch and she sits down next to you. You lean in close to her and you feel your heart flutter and you look into her eyes. “So, tell me about yourself!” You yell over the loud music.
—
You and Robin are still sitting on the couch, drinking and talking. You’ve learned a little bit about Robin, and she’s learned a little bit about you. But you wanted to know more about her.
“So, what got you into band?” You ask, taking a sip of your beer.
“Oh, uhm-”
“Y/L/N, come on! Someone just brought a keg to the backyard!” You’re grabbed by your letterman and dragged to the backyard.
You yelp as you're pulled to your feet. “Wait!” You protest as you’re being pulled through the house, looking towards the couch where Robin has now stood up.
“You gotta get in on this!” Your teammate says, lightly shoving you towards the keg. You stumble forward, beer splashing out of the can you’re still holding. “You’re the star, you get first dibs! I think you should do a kegstand!”
“I can hold your legs up.” You spin, seeing Robin with a smile on her face. “As long as you hold mine up,” She says with a shrug.
“I didn’t take you for too much of a drinker,” You say honestly.
“There’s a lot you still have to learn about me,” Robin says confidently.
You smirk at Robin. “You got a deal, Buckley. You hold my legs, I’ll hold yours.” You place your hands on the handles of the keg and take a deep breath. You glance over at Robin and she nods.
You lunge forward and kick your legs up into the air. Robin quickly grabs them, helps you into the handstand position and holds your legs in the air. Your teammate puts the tap into your mouth and you start sucking on it, letting the beer flow into your mouth. You start chugging the beer.
Everyone in the backyard starts to count loudly. You stay up for fifteen seconds before feeling the need to stop. You let the tap leave your mouth and Robin lets go of your legs. Your feet hit the ground and you let go of the keg handles, standing up straight. You wobble and start to fall back, but Robin puts her hands on your waist, catching you.
“Can I trust you to hold me up?” Robin whispers. “You’re so drunk.”
You gulp, feeling her breath on your ear. “I think I can handle it,” You whisper back, your words slurred together.
Robin’s hands slide off your waist and she steps in front of the keg. She places her hands on the handles and looks back at you. “Ready?” You give her a nod and she kicks her legs into the air. You catch her legs and raise them up and everyone starts counting.
Robin makes it to ten seconds before squirming to get down. You lower her legs to the ground and she wipes her mouth with the back of her hand before smirking at you.
“Robin!” Steve rushes forward. “I didn’t know you could do that!” Steve pats his friend on the shoulder.
Robin shrugs, “Me neither!”
“That was pretty good for your first time,” You say, slightly swaying.
“Holy shit you’re so drunk,” Steve says with a laugh.
“She is very drunk!” Nancy says, putting her hands on your shoulder from behind. “Which is why the party is over!”
“Nancy!” You whine. “Noooo!” You grab Robin’s hand. “We’re having so much fun! Right, Buckley?”
“Yeah! A lot of fun!”
Nancy raises an eyebrow. “Robin, you can stay if you’d like, you too, Steve, but I’m calling the party!” Nancy looks around the backyard. “Party is over, everyone go home!” She makes her way inside, repeating the message for everyone.
You watch as people make their way from the backyard and into your house. A lot of the students congratulate you on the win and thank you for the fun party. You follow everyone inside, Robin and Steve following behind you.
Nancy is holding your front door open and ushering everyone out. You plop down on the couch, leaning your head back and closing your eyes. You feel the couch dip next to you and hear the front door close and the lock click.
“You okay?” Robin asks, putting a hand on your thigh.
You peel your eyes open. “I’m going to throw up.”
Robin stands up and grabs your hands, slowly pulling you to your feet. “Where’s the bathroom?”
“Over there,” Nancy points.
“Come on,” Robin says, slowly pulling you to the bathroom.
The moment you reach the bathroom, you rush to the toilet and start vomiting. Robin squats behind you and holds your hair back, rubbing her hand up and down your back.
Once you think you’re done, you groan and lean back, your back meeting Robin’s legs. You run your hands down your face feeling embarrassed. “I’m sorry.”
“You don’t have to apologize,” Robin says, still running her hand up and down your back. She stands up and holds her hand out for you, which you grab. She pulls you to your feet and you bury your face in the crook over her neck. Robin is still for a moment before she wraps her arms around you. “You okay?”
You nod against her. “Tired,” You whine.
“Let’s get you to bed,” Robin says.
You pull away from Robin and exit the bathroom. You see Steve and Nancy sitting on the couch, a beer in both their hands. You raise an eyebrow at Steve.
“Steve’s gonna stay the night, and help us clean up tomorrow morning,” Nancy says, taking a sip of her beer.
“Y/N is ready for bed,” Robin says.
“Oh, I can take her up,” Nancy says, setting her beer down.
“I can do it,” Robin says. “I don’t mind.”
“Are you sure?” Nancy asks.
Robin nods. “Yeah! Don’t worry about it!”
Robin helps you up the stairs and once you reach the top you point her in the direction of your room. She opens the door and helps you inside. You walk into the bathroom that’s connected to your room and start brushing your teeth, leaning against the counter.
Robin looks around your room, looking at the posters scattered around your walls, and the trophies you have on a shelf in the corner of your room. As she’s looking around, you finish brushing your teeth and walk back into your room. You fall backwards onto your bed and close your eyes.
“Hey, hey, hey!” Robin says, walking over to you. “You need to get changed first!”
You groan, not making a move to get up. “‘M tired,” You whine.
Robin chuckles at you. “Hi tired, I’m Robin.”
You open one of your eyes and look at Robin, who’s smirking at you. “Not funny, Buckley,” You say with a small smile.
Robin takes a step towards you, “Then why’re you laughing, Y/L/N?” Robin holds her hands out for you. “Now come on, the quicker you get changed, the quicker you can go to sleep!”
You grab Robin’s hands and she pulls you into a sitting position. The world spins around you and you put your hands on your bed, gripping the comforter and squeeze your eyes shut.
“Nope, not happening,” You say.
Robin kneels down in front of you and starts untying your shoes. “Dizzy?” She asks, pulling off one of your shoes.
“Very.” You sigh and slowly open your eyes. You slide your letterman off and set it down next to you. You grab the bottom of your shirt and pull it off, tossing it towards your hamper in the corner of your room.
Robin pulls your second shoe off and stands up, seeing you’ve taken your shirt off. “Oh!” She quickly averts her eyes, looking anywhere but at you.
You lay back down, moving up your bed. You pull the comforter back and get underneath it. You let your eyes flutter shut.
Robin grabs your letterman from where you left it on the bed, and quickly hangs it up in your closet. She moves to the side of the bed and kneels down in front of you. “Do you need anything?”
“Stay?” You whisper.
Robin gulps. “Stay?” She asks.
You nod and pull the comforter back. “Stay with me?”
“Okay.” Robin kicks her shoes off before slowly climbing in your bed.
You turn to your side to look at Robin, who’s looking at you. “Thanks for staying, Buckley.” You give a small smile before your eyes flutter shut.

Chapter Three
You groan, feeling a pounding in your head. You rub your eyes with the back of your hands before slowly opening them. You roll over onto your side and immediately freeze. Robin Buckley is asleep in your bed. You look at her, taking in her features. You glance down at her lips, slightly parted, a snore coming through.
You come to your senses and quickly jump out of your bed, careful as to not wake Robin. It’s now that you notice you’re shirtless, only being covered by your bra. A gasp escapes your lips and you rush to your closet. You grab a hoodie and pull it on.
You go to your bathroom and rummage through the cabinets for Advil. You finally find some and open the bottle, grabbing two of the white pills. You pop the pills into your mouth and dip your head under the faucet of your sink. You turn it on and use the water to swallow the pills. You take this time to brush your teeth and brush your hair.
You exit your bathroom and glance at Robin before exiting your room, closing the door behind you. You walk downstairs and immediately groan at the beer cans that are littered everywhere. You walk into the living room and see Steve asleep on your couch.
“Good morning!” You look over your shoulder and see Nancy leaning against the wall with a smile.
“‘Morning,” You groan.
She beckons you over with her head, before turning into the kitchen. You walk to the kitchen, avoiding any beer cans that are on the floor.
“Here,” Nancy hands you a mug full of coffee.
“Oh my god, you’re a life savor!” You take the mug from Nancy and take a sip, moaning quietly when the coffee hits your tongue.
“How’s your head?” Nancy looks at you, taking a sip of coffee from her own mug.
“Pounding,” You groan. “But I took some Advil before coming down here.”
Nancy hums. “So, Robin never came back downstairs after putting you to bed,” Nancy points out.
“Yeah, uhm,” You run a hand down your face. “She’s in my bed.”
Nancy smirks at you. “Did you guys-”
“God, Nance! No!” You interrupt quickly.
“I was just curious!” She puts her hands up in defense.
“Did you and Steve?” You counter, receiving a blush from Nancy. “On my couch?”
“No!” Nancy says with a shake of her head. “We just kissed!”
“I thought you were into the Byers guy?” You jump up to sit on the kitchen counter.
Nancy shrugs as she moves to sit on the floor, leaning against the cabinets. “Steve’s a nice guy. We talked a lot last night.” You slowly nod. “So, you and Robin?”
“Huh?”
“Are you two…together?”
“No!” You answer with a shake of your head.
Nancy smirks at you. “But you like her!”
You feel your face get hot. “I mean, uh, yeah,” You let out a nervous chuckle and rub the back of your neck.
“That’s why you’re always stopping by the band room!”
“Guilty,” You say with a small smile. “Good thing it wasn’t for Steve, since your two were sucking face last night!”
Nancy grimaces. “Ew, no one says sucking face!”
“But you two were!”
Nancy smirks. “He’s a good kisser!”
“Gross! I don’t wanna hear about that!”
You and Nancy laugh together.
“Hey.”
You look over to see Robin shuffling into the kitchen, rubbing her eyes tiredly. “Good morning.” Robin shuffles over to you and stands in between your legs and rests her head against your chest, wrapping her arms around you. You tense and look over at Nancy who smirks at you and draws a heart in the air with her fingers. “You okay, Buckley?” You set your coffee down and wrap your arms around her, loosening up.
“My head is killing me,” She complains.
“I’ll go grab Advil!” Nancy stands up and rushes off.
“Can I make you a cup of coffee?” You offer.
Robin nods against your chest before backing up. “Sorry,” She says, her cheeks red. “I uhm, get touchy when I’m tired.”
“Don’t apologize,” You say, hopping off the counter. You walk to the coffee machine and start making coffee.
Nancy returns to the kitchen with the bottle of Advil from your bathroom and she tosses it to Robin, who fumbles it and drops it to the floor. She quickly picks it up and takes two pills from the bottle.
“Cream and sugar?” You ask, moving to the fridge.
“Just cream, please,” Robin replies.
You look at Robin as you pour the creamer into her coffee, waiting for her to tell you when to stop. She gives a nod of her head and you stop pouring, and return the creamer to the fridge. “Nothing like some coffee and Advil to cure a hangover,” You say, handing Robin the cup of coffee.
Robin takes the mug from you and uses some of the coffee to take the Advil. “Thank you, I appreciate it.”
“Of course,” You say with a smile.
“Having a party without me?” Steve walks into the kitchen.
“Cup of coffee?” You offer.
“No, thanks.” Steve moves next to Nancy, giving her a smile. “Not into that stuff.” Steve runs a hand through his hair. “Your place is kind of a mess,” Steve points out the obvious.
You sigh and take a sip of your coffee. “Yeah, unfortunately that’s the cost of throwing a party.”
“We don’t mind helping you clean,” Robin says.
“I appreciate it!”
“Shall we get started then?” Nancy asks.
—
Hours later and you’re finally done cleaning the mess in and outside of your house. Steve and Nancy are out by Steve’s car talking and you and Robin are talking on your front porch.
“Thanks again for helping me last night,” You say, rubbing the back of your neck.
“You don’t have to keep thanking me,” Robin says. “It’s really fine.”
“Well-”
“Robin! Let’s go! We need to meet up with Jonathan to study!” Steve calls from the car.
“I’ll see you at school?” Robin asks.
“See you at school, Buckley.” You smile at her.
“Steve’s going to drop me off on his way to study!” Nancy calls to you from Steve’s car. “I’ll text you!”
“Bye, Nance!” You call back to her.
She gives you a wave before getting into Steve’s car.
—
Monday morning arrives quickly and you find yourself at school early. You sit in the locker room, pulling your running shoes onto your feet. Recently, you’vr found yourself coming to school early to go on a run around the track or to practice drills to get extra practice in. With it being your junior year, you need to start focusing more to impress any scouts that come to your games.
You step out of the locker room and into the cold air outside. You sip from your water bottle as you make your way to the track. You stick your headphones in your ear and start your running playlist before sticking your phone into your pocket. Once you research the track, you toss your water bottle down onto the grass and do some stretches.
After you’re done stretching, you quickly take off, running around the track. You take this time to do some thinking. You think about your recent interactions with Robin. You like her a lot, and you’re pretty sure she likes you too. You shake your head a little bit, trying to think of something else, but you can’t, Robin is the only thing you can think about for the entirety of your run.
After a quick and easy three mile run and a cold shower in the locker room. You walk into school and quickly make your way to your locker. You lean your head against your locker, closing your eyes. You feel more exhausted than you normally do.
“You’re pushing yourself too hard again.” You turn your head to the side, keeping your head on your locker, and opening your eyes. “You need to take it easy.” Nancy raises a worried eyebrow as she holds two cups of coffee from your favorite coffee shop in her hands.
You eye the coffee cups before glancing back up at Nancy. “I’m fine, Nance. I…I didn’t sleep well last night.” It wasn’t a complete lie, you had struggled to fall asleep last night, not being able to stop thinking about Robin.
Nancy hands you one of the coffee cups. You pull your head off your locker and accept the cup. “You’re also starting to push yourself more, I can see it.”
You take a sip of the hot coffee and hum at the taste. “Double shot, you know me well!” You smile at Nancy.
You sigh, you know Nancy is right. “Nancy, scouts are going to start coming to the games soon, I need to make sure I impress them.”
Nancy puts a hand on your shoulder. “I know, but you won’t be able to do that if you’re exhausted out of your mind.”
“I know, I know.” You nod. “I just-” The bell rings, cutting you off. “Shit!” You quickly open your locker and grab everything you need for your first two classes. “I can’t afford to be late again!” I’ll catch you in lab!” You shut your locker and rush off to class.
—
Your classes are dragging today, and you’ve been bored in all of them. You haven’t seen Robin all day, and it’s killing you. You’re hoping the rest of the day goes by quickly. You walk into your science lab and sit down at your usual table.
“Hey, Nance,” You say as you put your textbook on the table.
“Hey!” Nancy taps her pencil on the table. “Can I copy your homework?”
You look at Nancy and chuckle. “Sure.” You pull out the worksheet and slide it over to your lab partner. You watch as she quickly scribbles down the same answers onto her blank worksheet. “You didn’t even start it?”
“No, I was busy this weekend,” Nancy says with a shrug.
“Busy?” You ask. “Did you get stuck watching Mike?”
Nancy shakes her head. “No, I went to the movies.”
You raise your eyebrows. “With who?”
Nancy looks at you, sliding your worksheet back over to you. “Steve.”
“Steve?” Your loud voice gets a few looks from your fellow classmates.
Nancy slaps your arm lightly. “Quiet!”
“Sorry,” You mumble.
The bell rings, and class starts.
You and Nancy are dealing with some kind of chemical formula, just like the rest of the class. Your goggles are tight on your face, white lab coat covering your body and blue gloves covering your hands.
“So, are you and Steve…a thing?” You ask, grabbing the flask and pouring some of the liquid into another flask.
“No, we’re just seeing where things go,” Nancy says, and you can tell she’s being truthful. “I do like him though. We got to talk a lot Friday night and got to know each other.”
“You two would be cute together,” You say as you set the flask down on the table. “I saw the way he looked at you the other day.”
Nancy blushes. “And what about you and Robin?”
You watch the chemical reaction and jot down some notes in your notebook. “What about it?”
Nancy rolls her eyes. “Are you two, y'know?"
“We haven’t talked since Saturday when you all left.”
“What?” Nancy asks. “You two definitely like each other.”
You shrug. “I don’t have her number.” Nancy smacks the back of your head. “Ow!” You glare at her and rub the sore spot on the back of your head.
“Why didn’t you get her number?”
“I forgot.” You sigh.
“Ladies, do I need to remind you this is a science lab and not a gossip club?” Your teacher looks between you and Nancy.
“No, ma’am,” You rush out.
—
Your classes are finally over for the day and you’re making your way through the halls with Nancy at your side. “Don’t push yourself too hard at practice,” Nancy says with a squeeze to your shoulder. “You still good to give me a ride after?”
“Of course, Nance,” You say with a smile. “Good luck at practice.”
“You too, champ! See you later!” Nancy says before walking in a different direction.
“Hey, Y/N, wait up!”
You glance over your shoulder and see Robin jogging to catch up. You come to a stop and wait for her, continuing to walk when she reaches your side.
“I was uhm, hoping to get your number,” Robin says with a nervous laugh. “You wrote it down on my hand after the game on Friday, and before I could put it in my phone, I totally forgot and washed it off.”
You chuckle and Robin’s nervous rambling. “I was going to ask you for the same thing. Here, give me your phone.”
Robin fishes her phone from her back pocket and unlocks it before handing it over to you. You quickly type your number in and hand the phone back to her.
“Y/L/N, hurry up and get a move on! I don’t want to do drills because you’re late to practice!” One of your teammates exclaims, jogging past you in the hall.
“I guess that's my cue,” You say with a sigh. “Text me!” You say with a wink before turning and jogging to practice.
You end up being later, not being able to change into your softball uniform and get to the field in time. Your team groans when your coach tells you all to line up for drills, but you can’t help but smile.
SUMMARY: You've been avoiding Robin for a while now, ever since the last week of school when she confessed something you weren't ready for.
CHARACTERS: Robin Buckley, Nancy Wheeler, Steve Harrington, mention of Billy Hargrove & Mike Wheeler.
A/N: Just to give you a bit of a timeline, this is happening way before the events of season three. Steve doesn't know Robin is gay yet. I wanted to write it like he already knew, but obviously the mall "burnt" down after season three so it wouldn't make sense if they worked at scoops. I'll try to write one where he knows using the family video store which they work at in season four :)
Your POV:
On a hot summer's day like today, the only thing better than going for a swim in Hawkins' community pool, would be getting some ice cream. You and Nancy had planned to go swimming at the pool, but that plan was quickly shut down once you found out Billy Hargrove got a job there as a lifeguard. You had nothing against Billy other than his rough exterior, his harsh words and his overwhelming urge to look so damn punchable. So actually, you had a lot against him. But to be fair he was a pain in the ass.
Now that your pool plans had been ruined, the best option you had was the mall. It had opened at the beginning of summer causing chaos. Everyone wanted to be there. Hawkins was a small town and the new mall was the biggest thing to happen there since Nancy's younger brother's friend went missing and your friend, Barb, too. You still shudder at the thought of it.
Pushing past the unwelcome thoughts your mind always seemed to wander to, you forced your lips into a smile as you stepped out of Nancy's car. Though, it didn't take long before your fake smile turned into a real one. You loved the mall. You had gone almost every day of the summer since it opened. You and Nancy walked together through the mall, basking in its colourful glory.
"What should we do first?" Nancy asked, her smile growing bigger the more she looked around. You pointed to one of the stores, lit up with bright fancy lights that showcased all the colourful shoes it offered.
"That one!" You squealed, grabbing a hold of Nancy's hand and dragging her into the shoe store.
In just an hour and a half, the two of you had already covered multiple stores and were now carrying a heap of bags. Both of your eyes lit up after noticing the bright blue and red lights of the sign that read, 'Scoops A'Hoy.'
"Ice cream!" You squealed, turning to look at Nancy who carried the same expression as you.
"Uh, hell yeah!" She replied. She grabbed a hold of your hand and began pulling you through the crowd of people, aiming directly for the ice cream parlour ahead. Just as the two of you were about to reach the entrance, Nancy stopped. She gasped before quickly pulling on your hand, dragging you to the side and out of sight from the employees, and moving you away from your promised destination.
"Nancy!" You whined, unsure of why she pulled you away.
"Shhh!" She hushed. "It's Steve! I didn't know he worked here!" She peeped her head around the corner, looking at the brunette at the counter once more, before moving to look at you again.
"Huh?" You said, turning and following her eye-sight into the store. Your eyes locked on Steve Harrington, Nancy's ex.
"Yikes, Nance," You started, wincing at the sight. "Maybe we should go somewhere else."
"No, no. It's fine." She said. She brushed out her dress and fiddled with her hair, trying to gather herself.
"Nance?" You questioned, raising a brow.
"What?" She said blankly, looking back at you. "Oh, come on, I'm just trying to look presentable."
"Presentable?"
"I don't want to look like I need him, you know?"
"You don't need him." You corrected, folding your arms.
"Yeah, but, he tends to see whatever he wants to see." She replied, pushing a stray strand of hair behind her ear. You shrugged before you both slowly made your way inside the parlour. Nancy wore a straight face, pretending as if she was not affected by Steve's presence. You couldn't help but smile while looking at the ship-themed decor, the blue and white painted walls and the delicious desserts that filled the display cases. By the time you reached the counter, you were practically drooling.
"Ahoy ladies!" Steve yelled happily, not looking up from the counter. "What can I get yo-" He paused once he noticed Nancy. "Nancy, Uh- Hey." He quickly pulled his hat off of his head. She smiled sheepishly at him. The two of them stared awkwardly at each other for a moment before you decided to break the tension. You cleared your throat.
"Um, can we get one vanilla and one strawberry, please?" You said smiling. Steve's eyes broke away from Nancy's and quickly met yours.
"Oh, yeah, sure thing." He said. He tapped a few buttons on the cash register as you handed him some money. He turned to face the back window and peaked his head in slightly, "Hey, Robin, little help?" You flinched at the name that fell off of his tongue.
Robin? No. Please don't be Robin Buckley. Please. You thought. You had been desperately trying to avoid Robin Buckley ever since the end of the school year. She had built up the courage to admit that she liked you. You were shocked. Obviously. You had been told all your life that girls weren't supposed to like other girls, and you had always tried to ignore the part of you that did. You did like girls. But over time you had convinced yourself that you liked one thing more. Other people's validation.
[FLASHBACK]
"I don't know how to say this," She said, tucking a stray hair behind her ear. "But, Um-" Her voice shook as she spoke. You bit your lip slightly, afraid of what she was about to say. "I like you." Your eyes shut tight as you let out a breath you didn't know you were holding. You knew this was coming. "Like a lot, I really like you." Robin's eyes glanced over your face, trying desperately to get a read on whatever you were thinking.
"Robin, I–"
"Oh." She interrupted, sadness flooding her voice as it cracked and broke through her words. "I'm sorry, this was a bad idea, I shouldn't have-"
"No, no, Robin–"
"Look, I get it, you don't like me." She said, wiping away a tear that fell down her cheek, trying her best to cover up her feelings. "You like guys."
"Robin–"
"It's okay, it's fine, really,"
"Robin, look," You started. "It's complicated, okay?" You caught a glance of some of your other friends in the corner of your eye and your head immediately turned to face them. Robin followed your eyes, locking hers with the group of girls that laughed and giggled just a few steps away.
"It's not about me, is it?" She asked, her eyes pooling with tears once more. You turned back to her, not able to find any words to respond with. "It's not about liking guys, is it?" Another tear slid down her face as she bit her lip to stop it from trembling. "It's about you wanting to be little miss perfect for all of your stupid little friends." Her eyelashes blinked rapidly in an attempt to stop any more tears from escaping. She had already been vulnerable with you enough today, she didn't need to show any more of herself.
"Robin," You spoke softly.
"Just forget I said anything." She interrupted, grabbing her things and standing up. "Y/N, you may try to be perfect, but," she bit her lip and shook her head, letting out a small huff. "It's not real. It'll never be real because you're not yourself." And just like that, she turned and walked away.
You blinked rapidly, trying to hold in your tears, as you watched her walk further and further away from you. Your lips parted as you turned, now just looking at the blank space. As her words replayed over and over again in your mind, you gulped, trying to take them all in.
[END OF FLASHBACK]
Your whole life you had done whatever you could to get people to like you. You tried your hardest to be kind, to follow trends, and basically do whatever anyone asked of you. If you didn't meet their expectations, they would throw you out. You craved their validation. You needed them to like you.
As much as you wished that people would just accept you for you, you understood that it probably wasn't going to happen. It was unfair, you knew that. It was always going to be unfair.
"No thanks!" A voice called. As soon as you heard the voice responding to Steve, you knew it was her. You darted behind Nancy in an attempt to hide yourself from her. When you peeked over her shoulder, she was nowhere to be found.
"What? Robin?" Steve repeated. Suddenly, the window slammed shut, blocking Steve's view into the back room. He paused for a moment before slowly turning and making his way over to the ice cream canister. You and Nancy looked at each other, unsure of what just happened. You moved to stand next to her again. Steve slid open the freezer and scooped one scoop of vanilla before placing it into the cone. He handed it to you.
"Thank you." You replied, passing it over to Nancy. He turned back to the freezer before scooping another scoop, this time of strawberry, and placing it into a cone. He handed it to you with a smile bigger than before.
"So, Y/N, uh– how's it going?" He asked, resting one of his arms on the counter. You took a lick of your ice cream as you looked at him, not really sure what he was trying to do. Nancy stood beside you awkwardly. "You busy tonight?" As much as you felt bad for Steve, there was no way in hell you were going to play along with his little game to annoy Nancy. You had known Steve for ages and even became good friends with him, but Nancy was always going to be your priority.
"Yeah, um–" You stopped. "I have plans."
"Oh? Doing what?" He asked, raising a brow. You looked around, searching for any sort of excuse. Before you could get too ahead of yourself and answer with something crazy, Nancy interrupted you.
"Girls night!" She said, smiling awkwardly. She quickly pulled on your arm, dragging you out of the parlour and away from whatever awkward situation had just happened. The two of you giggled, arm-in-arm, as you talked about it.
Steve pressed his lips together and sighed. He really knew how to make a fool out of himself. He ran a hand through his hair as he pushed the door to the back room. Robin, his co-worker, was sitting in the corner nervously.
"Are they gone?" She peeped.
"Yep. They're gone." Steve breathed, flopping into one of the seats with a loud sigh. His browns suddenly furrowed as he flung his head up to look at Robin. "Wait– What just happened before?"
"Huh?"
"With you not doing your job? and slamming the window shut on my face?" He asked, annoyance lingering in his voice.
"What- I- Well- You know!" She stuttered, unable to get the right words out.
"No, actually, I don't know."
"Well! It's just–" She stopped herself, almost as if she were fighting with her own mind on what to say. "Never mind." Steve rolled his eyes before leaning back in his chair and letting out an annoyed groan.
"What is it? Just tell me!" He whined, growing more frustrated.
"Well, I don't know," She started, biting her lip. "A friend of mine really likes Y/N, like a lot," Steve turned to her and raised a brow. "And sh- He told her that he liked her." Her voice began to crack as she spoke. "And um, she didn't like him back." She looked down at the floor, "Or she was afraid to like him back."
"So?" Steve interrupted, breaking the emotional moment. Robin looked at him. "What does that have to do with you?"
"Nothing! It's just–" She paused, resting her head against the wall with a sigh. "It's just awkward because she knows I'm friends with him." She looked down, tears threatening to spill from her eyes. "She knows I know."
"Right, so it's awkward? So what?" Steve said, shrugging his shoulders. "Did you not see what just happened?" He added, referring to whatever had just happened at the counter before. Robin's frown quickly turned to a smile as she let out a small laugh.
"Yeah, that was pretty bad." She replied, smiling back at the boy. The two laughed for a moment before they were interrupted by loud teenagers giggling and the sound of the shop bell ringing repeatedly. They both groaned simultaneously.
"It's your turn." Steve said, leaning back in his chair.
The moment you and Nancy had left the store, she was quick to jump to her many questions.
"What was that?" She asked, looking toward you.
"Steve? Yeah, I know right." You laughed.
"No. I was talking about how you hid behind me."
"Huh? What? No, I didn't." You lied, trying to cover for yourself.
"Uh, yeah you did." She corrected. Your mouth opened as your mind searched for the right words to say, or the right excuse, but nothing came out. Just as you reached the parking lot, she stopped and turned to face you, grabbing your arms to keep you from moving. "Just tell me, do you like Steve?"
"What?" You gasped loudly, quickly looking around to see if anyone heard what she had just accused you of. "Steve? No!"
"Then why were you being weird?"
"I wasn't being weird!" You protested, jerking your head back quickly in shock.
"You froze when he asked you out."
"Yeah because I didn't know what to say!"
"Because you wanted to say yes, but you couldn't because I was there."
"No! Wait- what? No!" You argued back. You paused and took a step back, trying to ease the tension the two of you had created. "Look, okay, it wasn't Steve I was nervous around."
"What?"
"He mentioned Robin." You said quickly before forcing your mouth closed in an attempt to stop yourself from saying something else you'd regret later.
"Huh? Who?" She questioned, raising a brow. You took a deep breath before finally giving up on your attempts to conceal what really happened.
"Robin Buckley. She works there." You replied softly, looking down at the floor. "He said her name, and I heard her voice, she was there."
"Um, okay? I don't understand."
"I've just been avoiding her, okay?" You snapped, wanting nothing more than to just move on from the subject.
"Are you going to tell me why?" She asked. You stared at her for a moment. Nancy was your best friend. You had known each other for years. She loved you and you loved her. But still, a part of you wasn't sure how she'd react to the truth.
"Just– something happened."
"What happened?" You had always loved Nancy's curiousness, it was a part of who she was. But now it was just making the fighting in your head worse. Should you tell her? Could you tell her? You were constantly at war with yourself, never truly understanding your own feelings and never truly being able to express them. You wished it didn't have to be this difficult. You wished that the panicked anxiety that tore through your stomach daily, forcing you to keep silent, would for once just go away.
"I can't." You said softly, almost like a whisper. Your voice cracked slightly as tears pooled in your eyes. Nancy noticed how fast your defences fell. She noticed how quickly you put up that wall and shut her out, just like you always did. But to be fair, it really wasn't your fault. It was the worlds.
She didn't say anything after that. Instead, she sighed and headed towards the car. You followed slowly behind her. When you both reached the car, you got inside and sat in silence for a moment. Suddenly, Nancy shifted in her seat to face you.
"Y/N," She said gently. You turned, looking at her, and realised the concern she now carried in her eyes. "I just want you to know that I'm here for you." Her brows furrowed softly as she nodded, gulping down the lump that grew in her throat. "You're my best friend, and you can tell me anything," She continued. She looked away quickly as she bit the inside of her cheek. Your lip began to tremble as tears flooded your eyes. You tried your hardest to hold them in. "Just know, I'm always going to love you no matter what."
Silence filled the car once more. She slowly looked up again and turned back to face you. Now she could see all of the emotion held up in your eyes and she could almost feel how heavy your heart sat behind them. She quickly wrapped her arms around you, pulling you in for a hug. A tear slid down your cheek as you held each other.
What you didn't know, was that Nancy knew. She had always known. And she loved you regardless. It didn't matter to her whether you liked girls or guys or anyone. People were people. People loved people. Nancy understood that. Little did you know, a lot of people understood that.
By the end of the week, you had built up the courage to go see Robin. You had been arguing with yourself back and forth ever since the day she confessed. You knew how hard it would've been for Robin to tell you, and even worse, you knew how hard it would've been to let that memory swim through her mind over and over again, tormenting her.
As you drove through the streets of the small town you lived in, small droplets of rain began to patter against the roof of your car. You didn't notice it at first. But when the light tapping turned to a much louder batting against the car, you worried that maybe it was a sign. A sign for you to turn the car around and go back home.
As you reached the familiar house and pulled over, you raced with the rain to get to the front door. Thankfully, the struggles of running through the rain gave you no chance to worry if this was the right decision. You instinctively knocked your hand against the door, wanting to get away from the rain. A few moments later, the door swung open revealing Robin's mother.
"Oh Y/N, it's so lovely to see you again!" She said, smiling. She looked at your slightly wet hair and the light droplets of water that fell from your shoulders. Thankfully, you hadn't gotten too wet. "I feel like I haven't seen you in ages!"
"Uh, is Robin home?"
"Oh, right, yes!" She replied, turning to glance around the room. "She should be here somewhere, probably her room," She moved aside, signalling for you to come in. You walked through the door and headed towards Robin's room. You paused at the closed door. Was this a bad idea? You thought. Before you got the chance to further argue with your own thoughts, your hand lifted itself to the door and knocked.
"What?" Robin called out from behind the door. Your mouth opened but no words escaped. "What is it?" She said louder, annoyance lingering in her voice.
"Uh, it's me." You managed to choke out. There was no response. Instead, your ears were met with the sounds of Robin ruffling and running towards the door. You gulped as you watched the knob turn and the door fall back.
"Y/N?" She said softly. She looked you up and down, unsure if it was really you.
"Hey, uh–" You paused to clear your throat, sucking up the courage to actually talk to her. "Can we talk?" She stared at you for a moment before moving aside, allowing you into her room. She shut the door behind you. "Look, um, I just wanted to say I'm sorry." You said. Your leg bounced up and down as you avoided eye contact. "I'm sorry for how I reacted and I'm sorry for avoiding you and–" You stopped yourself. You knew what your mind wanted to say but you weren't sure if you'd ever be able to find the right words to say it. A part of you didn't want to say it at all, but you forced yourself to ignore the part of you that told you to hide.
"Y/N," She whispered. Your name fell off her lips so gently that it was almost like she never said it at all. You looked up at her eyes, watching as they filled with tears. Say it. Just say it. You thought. But you couldn't. And you wondered if you'd ever be able to say it.
The brief moment of silence between the two of you gave you your chance. You opened your mouth, begging for the right words to spill out, but instead, it closed. Instead, your eyes lingered down to her lips and before you knew it, you collided. You pressed your lips against hers. She fell back a little, shocked at the sudden movement, before kissing you back. You both pulled away and stared at each other.
"I–" You started. You licked your lips as you looked down. "Fuck, I'm sorry, I–" Your mind began to fill with millions of unwanted thoughts that tore through your mind repeatedly, yelling at you that you had done something wrong. Before you could dig the hole deeper, you rushed out of her room. You could hear the faint sounds of her calling your name but you ignored them. You hurried through her house and out the door, running straight into the pouring rain.
You gasped as you felt someone grab your wrist and swing you back around. Your lips met with Robin's once more as she pulled you into her. You froze for a moment before wrapping your arms around her neck, allowing yourself to deepen the kiss. Her hand slid up to your cheek, gently holding it as her other grabbed onto your waist. She held you close to her, not breaking the kiss. The rain hissed as it fell down on the two of you, drenching your hair and clothes.
You blinked rapidly as you pulled apart, looking back into Robin's eyes. You stared at each other for a moment, still holding each other, but unable to talk. Your chest heaved as you looked at her blue eyes through the rain, watching as they sparkled. Suddenly, her hand moved from your face as she broke the silence.
"Y/N–"
"I like you." You interrupted. Your teeth instinctively bit your lip, telling you to shut up, but you didn't. "I like you a lot." Your breathing slowed as the tension in your body fell. It was scary, sure, but it sure felt good to say it. "Like a lot, a lot."
"A lot, a lot?" She mimicked, tilting her head with a smile.
"A lot, a lot." You repeated, your smiles turning to soft giggles. She grabbed your face gently, stroking your cheek with her thumb and looking at you lovingly. "I don't want to hide anymore," You said. Her eyes moved to your lips and then back to your eyes. She pulled you into her, attaching her lips to yours once more. Your arms tightened around her neck, trying to bring her closer as you laughed and kissed in the rain.
Little did you know, that in a few weeks time, you'd be sucked into a supernatural mess filled with secret Russian operations and otherworld dimensions. And even worse, Steve Harrington.
