as per my last post im gonna rant about jonthan byers

(keep in mind this me going all off my memory i haven’t freshly rewatched seasons 1-3)

he is one of my favorite ST characters and im so sad that theres little to no content about him at all, and honestly i blame the duffer brothers.

i dont think they knew what to do with him outside of his arc in S1 like, he gets the girl he wanted and (sorta) become friends with the popular kid

but thats not where his story ended at all, his little brother got trapped in a upside down demon hell for TWO SEASONS and while yes we get to see how it affects jonathan its very brief

basically to sum it up, i really just wish jonathan had more screentime dedicated to him, i really want to explore him more and i know hes not a super main character i just really love him

I set aside time to go through all notes from my beta readers, ready to outline a plan for the most intensive developmental edits of my life. The bad stuff was mostly what I expected and knew I had to address anyone with smaller line edits.

The rest was glowing praise.

I think the perfect analogy to my problem is when you voice your frustration to someone about something small and then they like NEED to fix your problem, like they interrogate you about what you’ve tried to do so far to fix the problem and they’re like making an action plan and you just don’t have the energy to catch them up to speed on what you’ve LIVED with and DEALING with and it just feels a little condescending and infantilizing? That’s how it feels when people can’t have a conversation, they need to go to war and be extra.

Meanwhile the people who seem allergic to even the idea of a conversation but have to type up criticisms of those people? They’re the ones smirking and making smug remarks about how they don’t have the problem you’re having even though you weren’t talking to them in the first place, they just overheard.

Like the most wide-appealing example I could think of is a person with acne complaining about their acne to a person who’s had only 1 pimple in their life, and that person then suggests that maybe you should try washing your face ☺️ have you ever used face cleanser? ☺️ maybe you don’t drink enough water (says a person whose liquid diet is 90% soda and vodka) ☺️ and then they try to make you feel bad when your reception to their grand advice is lukewarm, obviously they’re trying to help and you’re not being a good sport about it

And the second person who annoys me is the one who’s all “um why do you even care about having acne lol someone clearly hasn’t unlearned modern Eurocentric beauty standards and found their inner peace and self worth 🙄” 

When all you wanted to do was vent out your frustration with your acne. It was supposed to be a conversation.

A conversation! That’s what’s been annoying me so much lately. Like I examined myself and asked “Did I contradict myself? Am I a hypocrite?” Because I’m so annoyed with people who have to take something to such an extreme with every topic, but at the same time I’m annoyed with dismissive people who, if there existed a button that would magically shut up everyone talking about that very topic, would press that button. But the happy middle is there being a conversation. Like sometimes we just need to complain about something and vent a little, and sometimes when we vent together, we scrounge up some nugget of insight and truth because it’s in seeing our feelings mirrored in another that the image is more crisp and easier to define.

Next time your babyboomer relative/coworker/associate goes on a rant about the downhill of society because of reality TV and all the crazy “immoral” things on the news, remind them that most millennials were in grade school when reality TV got big, and most of us are under 25 now (not nearly old enough to be TV corporate execs.) so really it’s the Gen. Y-ers and their parents who scandalized, commercialized, and sensationalized everything and took a giant shit on journalism... then made us out to be the detached ones because we’re trendsetters.

I am both highly optimistic and highly pessimistic about society’s future.

This is the first era in the history of the human race in which a good chunk of us are globally connected and can rapidly share information, yet also the first time that a large majority of our population is under the strong influence and even control of very specific power structures based off of one religion and one government/economical practice.
