The idea behind his missing faceplate is right brain vs left brain and how years of monotony and putting on a different face has caused his creative side to wither and now he's more logical (left brained) so only the left side of his face is left
his broken core (the light in his chest) not lighting up anymore is very much a reference to depression and feeling empty inside/struggling to find the light in life
