I hated the 2017 Wonder Woman movie for how it depicts the Greek Gods. I haven’t thought about it for years and was content. Until I looked further into Greek Mythos and discovered:
Ares is literally one of the ONLY gods that cannot kill Zeus. (I read that there was a myth that any child born of Hera would not be able to overthrow Zeus. Idk how credible this is though.)
In a few myths, it is written that the Amazons were closely linked with Ares or sometimes Athena. (Some myths say Otrera, first Queen of the Amazons, was the offspring or wife of Ares. Some stories state that Ares favored her, along with all the Amazons, for their violence.)
In every rebellion against Zeus, Ares never fought against him. Despite Zeus’s open dislike, Ares never took much anger out against him. He actually defended Zeus, sometimes.
Look me in the eyes and tell me that you think Ares would’ve been able to kill Athena, Poseidon, Hades, Hera, and all the other Greek Gods before managing to fatally wound Zeus.
I can’t find any myths about Ares have any serious grudges against any of the gods. The closest I can find is his rivalry with Athena.
These points go against almost everything in Wonder Woman’s backstory. I know I should be used to inaccurate depictions of Greek Mythology, but I’m still bitter.
