What are your biggest personal goals? . Something I used to think about often (when rock climbing held a more prominent place in my life) was this idea that one day I’d be a 5.10 traditional leader. . ‘Trad’ climbing means placing removable (pro)tection in features of the rock as you progress upwards. If you fall, your rope which is connected to these pieces of gear (ideally) catches your fall, preventing you from plummeting to the ground. . 5.10 used to feel unattainable to me but I didn’t stop climbing just because my goal felt difficult to achieve. I kept working at improving my strength, technique, and even read some books including ‘The Rock Warriors Way’, which helped me refine my mental focus while climbing. . Long story short, I eventually achieved my goal, but that was years ago now. Just this season I managed to onsight (climb cleanly without falling or resting) a route at the 5.11 grade. . What once felt impossible is now achievable. The moral of this story? Set goals. Be bold. Don’t let a number or title stop your from trying. We’re all capable of amazing things if we work hard and put in the time. . Vanlife is kind of the same. What once seemed a long-shot is now a reality. And we’re just getting started. .
