Hello, I would love to hear about the world you're working on! I don't know much about your characters or their environment yet, so the more you can tell me about it the better! :D
ahahahahahahaaha! >:) ok there's a lot so sorry it took so long
So, to start off, the worlds, plural.
this is an entire universe, with multiple inhabited planets in the solar system galaxy whatever. There are minimum 8 planets, but probably more, I just haven't solidified them yet.
To start off, there are these Miroiyen that have (to a regular person) an insane amount of power. like full magic, hardly any limitations. But, most of them share their power with mortals. Why you ask? Boredom mostly. Its a bit like having more food than you could ever eat in your life, even if all you ever do is eat for the rest of your life. You give it away, other people could use and it you don't need it! but even better for this is that all these strange mortals that they give the magic to do these crazy things with it and its so funny. they're just so silly doing stuff with just a tiny bit of power its very entertaining. These magic users are called Prodiyens by the way. They do have like a set amount of magic though, so they have to be careful of how much they give away. they need to keep enough magic to stay the most powerful, or else they might get really sick and/or die. some like to give everyone an equal amount of magic, others give the first person a ton of magic and the next person as much magic as they can, and the next the same but just less because of how much magic was left. some just don't give very many people magic but give them a lot, and others don't care and just don't give people magic at all. they don't want the entertainment or just watch everyone else's lil magic weirdos. most of the magic has the same capabilities as the others, but some are better at things than others. Neek has an advantage to wind magic, and there are more ones, but this is just one example I have. When a magic user dies, their magic returns to the miroiyen. This could be old age, murder, sickness, whatever, dead prodiyen? magic goes back to the miroiyen
Except for recently. A decent amount of time ago, this thing showed up, and it was terrorizing people and stuff all bad and scary and things. I haven't completely worked out what it is yet, so far I have big blob of slime that hates you. after a while it was scaring people and hurting them and stuff, some Hero went to go fight them, but died. people were sad, yada yada, but someone else went to try and kill it. and they died too. and after a while, the miroiyen realized that they weren't getting any magic back. they would get it back from the regular people who were just living their lives, but anyone who went to fight Blobster™ wouldnt return their magic to the miroiyen. which was a problem, because the people who thought they could take Blobster™ down usually had more/stronger magic. One person not returning their magic when they died is so incredibly insignificant, but after a while when prodiyen after prodiyen kept dying and Blobster™ seemed to take their magic, it started building up. This is a problem and stuff, but it comes up later!
in current time, magic is kinda rare. Blobster™ has taken a ton of magic from the people, so miroiyens need to be extremely careful of how much magic they give people. less and less people are being given magic which is a problem, because now lots of cultures and societies depend on magic users
The miroiyen are kinda like people? like most of the worlds are pretty modern and where our world is technologically, and they have a few options of what to do. Some of them take on mortal forms and just hangout with people, pretending that they aren't [beings] and living what most would call a normal life. Others stay in like a nonphysical form? so they are kinda there but not? idk imagine how some ghosts work where no one can see them but they're just chilling watching all these weirdo alive people do stuff if that makes sense.
Also, they can die! they are technically immortal, but not ig? they are shape shifters, and can choose how they want to appear, so aging isn't a problem for them, and they can heal insanely fast, like a bullet shot through their head wouldn't kill them they heal so fast. it is EXTREMELY rare, but some miroiyen have died. Birdie brings this up, but that's for later. When a miroiyen dies, it takes a second but then there's almost an explosion afterwards? and its their magic. everyone in a nearby range, if not killed by the explosion, is then given parts of their magic, even if they had absolutely no part in killing the miroiyen and were just walking by. this is an INSANE amount of power for a mortal, and it takes a lot of work to deal with it. if there isn't anyone/enough people nearby, the environment absorbs the magic, and often takes on the qualities of the magic from the miroiyen. (color magic makes the place brighter/more colorful, plant magic would turn it into a very lush area, emotion magic makes this a place that makes you feel every emotion you've been repressing since you were 11 and lost all your friends, etc.)
When the person has the magic, they arent as powerful as the miroiyen, even though its the same magic. They are now called miroiyen, but the og miroiyens don't consider them to be one, and will call them a prodiyen thief or something like that. The new miroiyen generally CAN give magic to other people and do most of the same things that the og miroiyen can do, but it takes a lot of practice. The miroiyen have no trouble with it since theyve had forever to practice, but the newer ones usually cant ever get to do that, its just too much work. but again, a miroiyen dying is extremely rare. I don't know how many there were originally, but pretty much imagine 6 dying over the course of idk 10,000 years.
I'll be honest, I haven't figured out a ton about prodiyens, but I know that there are different types of magic, and that it has costs as well. At the very minimum, there are spell casters, potion brewers, and charmers. Charmers are able to draw a glyph/sigil/symbol on something, and then that affects the object. Common charms are used to keep clothes dry, warm, to keep the campanim heads the same (these guys come up later), just to name a few. sometimes for a permanent charm they can sew it into something or carve it, it just kinda depends on the charm they want to cast. Potion brewers brew potions (shocking, I know) that can make you understand new languages, jump higher, knock you out, etc. Spell casters usually need something to channel the magic, usually made from wood. I haven't totally decided what all it can do but like. cast magic spell and stuff. idk make it up yourself. Neek uses a wand, Yewrad uses a bat, but there are cooks that use spoons, chopsticks, teachers that use rulers, if it works and you can cast magic with it, it works. using magic takes a lot out of you though. they affect you in physical ways. It can make you very fatigued, some spells can make your joints pop out of their sockets, passing out, bleeding, and eventual chronic pain can come from using magic. its almost like working out, where you have to train and work your way up to get better at it and so you aren't as affected. New prodiyens have to be very careful, because if they end up casting a big spell before they are ready, it can just kill them. charmers and potion brewers don't have this problem as much, but they still can get very tired, cold/hot, mild temporary paralysis, lose senses and other things. There are more ways to cast magic, probably some that doesn't need anything to channel the magic, but they are still affected in the same way.
!! Halfway point! comment a magic wand if you see this ;D 🪄🪄 !!
After the miroiyen, there are other beings, ones that have less magic but are still more powerful than even the strongest prodiyen. So far this includes Fae and half-miroiyen, but there are more. I just haven't figured out who yet. And yes, the miroiyen can have kids and stuff, most just choose not to. Halfsies are very rare as well (again, I know), and while they have more magic than even the strongest prodiyen, they don't retain hardly any other miroiyen capabilities. They cant shapeshift (unless half campanim), they cant give magic to people, they are pretty much just Prodiyens with an extended lifespan (like 20% more than their mortal half's average lifespan (100 >> 120 // 700 >> 840)). They will look like whatever DNA their miroiyen parent had at the time, and then their other parent.
The fae are just. Fae. they do what they want and listen to their rules and only what they want. The miroiyens generally don't mess with anything in the planets until it REALLY becomes a huge problem, so as long as the faeries aren't causing too much trouble, they let them be.
Speaking of planets, lets get back to those! kinda
the first one is Neek's home planet
I guess this doesn't technically count as his planet and more just hometown/country, but whatever. So, Neek lives in a place called Chieren-lok. Every year, there is this naming ceremony. All the 13 year olds, the equivalent for their species, or anyone who missed the ceremony when they were the correct age for whatever reason participates in it, where the participants rename themselves. This is a very important thing, so there is lots of parties and celebrations that day. The ceremony takes place at night, so its dark and the 13 stars are visible (more are also visible (these ones are just important it comes up later)) there are usually warm lights/lanterns around, lots of food, kites, kids running around and having fun, a very happy atmosphere. This is a very snowy place, so the warm light contrast it a bit idk its very pretty. Ruanas are very common clothing to wear here, usually colorful ones as a celebration. The 13 y.o.'s who are going to get their new names that night usually are given an ombre one with some stars on it to wear.
Everyone sits in this area with chairs and stuff, they have some magic cast so their name is projected above their head, and then it changes to their chosen name when their time comes during this. This is an extremely important and exciting ceremony for everyone, and symbolizes them preparing for the changes that adulthood would eventually bring, and becoming themselves and getting to choose who they want to be.
They can change their name again later in life if they want, this is just the most common first change. It isn't mandatory, just very popular. kind of like birthday parties when you are young, you don't HAVE to do it, but everyone does and its super cool and fun so why not? Most of the kids will wear pins or things with their new names for a while, especially if they know a lot of people/have a lot of friends. It is considered extremely rude to call someone by their old name, so the pin thing kinda helps with this, but its seen as calling someone naive or childish, but worse. Most of the population is used to changing names for people throughout their lives, so it isn't a huge problem. Old names can still get brought up and stuff, its not taboo, but just don't call someone by that name because it isn't them.
Because the first name is almost a placeholder until they change it, the names often are based off of what they look like. Neek's previous name was Oodoozhaenlo, which meant star berry eyes. His eyes are a bright pink, almost the exact shade as this common star berry plant that grows where he lives, so that was his name. He didn't like how it took a long time to say his name, so when he changed it he went with something short and quick; Neek. 2nd names usually don't mean anything like that. They can, but most just go with a name they've heard of before and really like.
other things: when outside, if you were to kiss someone on the cheek or something, you would just tap their cheek 2 times. when inside its fine to actually kiss them, but when out its a no.
stars are extremely important to his town, as it was how everyone know to stay. Before anyone lived on the mountain town he's from, there was a big group of people looking for a place to stay. they needed to build a town and stuff, but couldn't choose where to build it. eventually, one night, they looked up and saw 13 stars in a perfect circle with the moon in the middle. they all decided that that was a great sign, and started settling down right under them. now, lots of expressions include them, and there was some mythology stemming from the stars, but very few believe it anymore. one common saying goes from "may she rest in peace" >> "may the stars accept her"
Also the alphabet! :
It is more based off of sounds than letters. if you don't have the right sounds in your name, ¯\_(ツ)_/¯. either make something up or just don't put it there
Those are how you would spell those names, and change them if a sound was missing
Neek is a (probably) snow elf! snow elves actually have the shortest lifespan of all the elves, around 150 years. The oldest elf ever on record was 689, but the average for the longest living elves (I havent decided which ones yet) is 600~
Neek is 32, but around 21 in human years. he has some sort of medical condition that makes him get cold very easily (and more probably, but I haven't come up with it yet). He doesn't mind the condition itself that much, buy he was often babied a lot, even after he became an adult, and he hated that. no one ever meant it in a mean way or where they thought he couldn't do anything, but more was just physically incapable of some things, so they tried to do it for him as if he couldn't do it himself. Because of this, Neek doesn't like accepting help from people and feels the need to prove to everyone that he can do everything just fine by himself. He is ecstatic when he meets Kip and Kip (Kip comes later) wants his help, because it means the tables were almost flipped and if he can teach someone else how to do everything, obviously he can do it himself just fine as well! Neek is a prodiyen, but he doesn't have very much magic, and its weak magic even then. he gets tired extremely easy, and spends a lot of time sleeping after using magic. Despite this, he is a Prodiyen for Hire! he goes around the worlds and help people out with problems they need magic for for a bit of money. he does this because he has decided he is going to kill Blobster™ and live. he needs the money to prepare for it, pay for traveling and stuff, food, protection, because he is ADAMANT that he wont die. I wonder if this ties into his need to prove himself at all....
OK. THIS IS TAKING LOT LONGER THAN I THOUGHT IT WOULD.
so, this is gonna be multiple parts! this is number 1, and I'll get to the others as soon as I can!
