I am not enjoying The Age of Revelation, but that's okay.
Magneto got killed by a metal character
Laura is a willing fascist enforcer
Storm has a fucking chain collar on. I had to slog through 60 pages of storm in fucking chains possessed by a clown just to get a single panel of her depicted positively.
Franklin gets hobbled and stripped naked and flayed and is then beaten to death in an act of senseless cruelty with only the knowledge that he failed his goal.
Just the combination of dumb shit like a metal guy killing magneto and the personally unpalatable shit like Laura being evil and Storm being diminished and the mean spirited shit like Ororo and Franklin.
I'm having a bad time with the age of revelation. I understand on some level that I'm SUPPOSED TO have a bad time in the first act of an apocalyptic "bad timeline" story, but I can no longer get my brain to care about this timeline, "it's lame and it will be fixed in less than a year why should i bother"
I GET that this art does not owe me a positive experience, but I am unable to give a shit about bummer art when it canonically does not matter and will be retconned in three months.
I want to read it, but can't make my brain give a shit about it anymore.
Time to start REALLY caring about the foreshadowing with enhancer-mutants I guess.
I liked the first issues of Omega Kids and Iron & Frost and Cloak & Dagger. They seemed to be taking advantage of the "no rules disposable timeline" in interesting ways to explore the characters and tell a cool story with them they otherwise couldn't in mainstream 616.
But I have to wonder if my interest in those titles is perhaps somewhat dependent on me not being attached to those characters. I don't really know Quentin or Emma or Tandy or Tyrone so maybe I'm just overprotective of my blorbos
I have no personal attatchment to Franklin Richards I just thought his fate was really mean spirited and it was a downer, however H.E.R.B.I.E.'s epilogue to that story was one of my favourite parts of this timeline and I hope we get a follow up of it.
IDK, I hope this didn't change any opinions you have about the age of revelation, I'm just ranting stream of consciousness. It's well done and I'm gonna keep reading it, but I'm not having a good time with this story .
