HERA / excerpt from my current wip “Daughter of Ash and Light” wip page
In the armory, Enbella folded her arms and remained at the exit, not fully understanding the armors and weapons that filled the room. She did not want to touch anything out of fear of breaking something valuable or getting in Hera’s way as she shuffled through it all.
To Enbella’s surprise, Hera pulled out a bulky crossbow that she handled as if it was as light as a feather.
Glancing at the leather armor beside her, Hera turned around to face Enbella, the crossbow tucked under her arm, as she pretended to stroke an imaginary beard.
“That’s it. You are coming with me.” she declared.
Enbella’s moonstone eyes practically lit up the dark room as she stared wide-eyed at Hera.
“What? Hera, you know I can’t come! King Atuill gave strict orders to—”
“Not let you enter the forest, yada yada,” exaggerated Hera, gripping an extra leather tunic in her hand. “Here, catch!”
Catching the tunic, Enbella continued to stare at Hera as if she had two heads. “And what would you like me to do with this?”
“Put it on, of course!” she grinned, slipping on her own tunic. “That lace dress you’re wearing is not ideal for a humid, soil ridden forest. Unless, you enjoy stains.”
