So, continuing a line of thought in my head (while rewatching BTVS again), without any real or great explanation… (sorry! it was just a little fang of a whisper 😏), I think that... 🤔 Well, assuming that...
If Spike is a Vampire 🧛♂️— and he's a Supernatural Predator.
And Buffy is a Slayer ⚔️ — and she's essentially a Predator of Predators.
And if both of them existed in an A/B/O universe…
Then, even though Spike would be considered an Alpha (being a supernatural being and of the vampire species and all). And Buffy, in her powerful self and even as a supernatural hunter, would not only also be considered an Alpha — but, in an A/B/O system with their dynamics, and making creative use of an amount of flexible rules and expanding the diverse designations of that world/universe… I do believe that, depending on each individual’s supernatural (or non-supernatural) abilities, as well as their personality and everything in that sphere — their designation could not only reflect all that but also be influenced by it.
That’s why, thinking further (but only breaching the surface, I know) about it, I don’t think Buffy, with her canonical title as a "Slayer" and her canonical supernatural strength, would be just a regular Alpha in that universe as I mentioned before… but more than probably, she would fall into a higher rank in that A/B/O hierarchy. And probably be reckoned as something more like a "Dominant Alpha" or even an "Apex Alpha" — definitely something beyond and above the usual and normative structure of the A/B/O system.
(yes, I am aware this sounds like I’m either stating the obvious or trying to reinvent the wheel in real time, but I promise, I'm trying to get to some point across, I swear. Just be patient with me, my little night lurkers 🫶😭)
And that's just the tip of a bigger and even more interesting dynamic between designated characters and that universe… Because if one is able to rule that higher above all other designations, that would make them their "Queen Bee 🐝" of that world, right?
And if that could be a possible undeniable truth in that universe… Then it would infer that for every great power, another equal power must emerge to maintain the balance ...right?
And if that were a canonical, undeniable truth of that world… then that would mean that “one must rule above all”? Or that “others, equally powerful in nature, must be born to balance the scales of that higher hierarchy of powerful designations in that world”?
Oh boy… I don’t really know... 🙇♀️
But now I have a bunch of unanswered questions. lol
Notes: Just to be clear, this isn’t me being delulu for no reason (even though I could be 'cause we’re in Tumblrland, after all 😎 lol). But as I watched early BTVS (S1–5) again this month, I ended up spiraling a bit over the show’s roles and dynamics, and I just couldn’t stop thinking about — and comparing — the Buffy universe to the A/B/O universe and its very interesting designations and all that, just for funsies, you know, and, well, now I feel weirdly compelled to write a fic about it all 😩
Because there’s the whole Chosen One concept, Buffy as the Slayer and her struggle to accept it, Spike’s introduction, the Council of Watchers, the Slayer line of power itself, and the way Watchers act like they somehow control or even “own” Slayers across centuries. Then there are vampires (and other creatures) with their own weird but structured hierarchy, the Initiative, and Sunnydale as this constant supernatural chaos zone where everything is always on the verge of imploding.
And the more Buffy grows stronger, the more each “final boss” somehow shows up even bigger and more powerful than the last one she defeated… so yeah, don’t blame me for connecting it to A/B/O logic 😭 it just all feels so fitting in a weirdly interesting way, with so many concepts and dynamics to play with. I swear, in my head it all makes so much sense and just feels really interesting!
If anyone else is also mentally rotating this like Spike pretending he doesn’t care while absolutely caring too much, please show yourselves 😩 I need backup in this spiral. I feel like I might be alone in this rabbit hole lol, but I’m genuinely curious if anyone else reads it like this too, or if I’ve completely lost the plot here 😭 either way, I’d love to hear your takes, thoughts, or any other interpretations 👉👈
