Real talk; I would genuinely try to get into rp on Tumblr if it wasn’t for the fact that many seem to require paragraph to multi-paragraph levels of writing w/ a ban on one-liners.
Now I get it, plenty of people prefer that style and if you do that level of writing within an rp, you’re completely fine. I myself allow my rp partners to write at any left they want.
But my problem lies in being somewhat forced to write more just so a partner is satisfied. Of course there’ll be the “so why don’t you just not rp with them?”-type questions, but overall I don’t see a point in making someone you likely just met write potentially more than they either like or are capable of just so you don’t drop the rp and ghost/leave them.
I myself mainly do one-liners up to a decent paragraph. That’s what I’m most comfortable at. That’s what I feel is best for me without feeling like I’m wasting my partner’s time writing something longer. Not everyone—including myself—is capable of writing something so long for a multitude of potential reasons. Plain and simple.
In my personal opinion, it should not be an end-all if your rp partner cannot write more than a one-liner because sometimes, those can actually fit the scenario best. Let them write at their level while you write at your own. The whole point of an rp is to have fun. Not to make it feel like a chore or writing assignment.
I might get flak for this, but I have been feeling this for a long while and I feel like now is the best time to get it off my chest. If you disagree with me, that’s fine; we can agree to disagree. But don’t try slamming me and/or others for putting in “little effort” when you don’t know the situation or reasoning behind it. It’s not always caused by laziness after all.
