The Rolls-Royce 20/25 is the second of Rolls-Royce Limited's inter-war entry-level models. Built between 1929 and 1936, as a replacement model for the Rolls Royce Twenty. The target market for the 20/25 was the same as the Twenty – the luxury, owner driver market. Developed under the project name Goshawk with its primary goal of increasing power and performance, that had been eroded as the Twenty continued to get heavier. The new 20/25 model was debuted at the 1929 Olympia Motor Show the 20/25 came with a larger 3,699cc straight six engine with overhead pushrod operated valve, separate cast iron block and aluminium crankcase with detachable cast iron 6-plug head, 7-bearing crankshaft with vibration damper. Pressure fed lubrication with relief valve feeding rocker shaft and timing gears. Project GTZ 22 The coachwork is probably about forty years old. is a full four door four seater with hood and side screens, Fitted with a nice pair of stainless steel headlamps. correct but unusual and desirable. GTZ 22 was supplied new to its first owner a Mrs. Stern, by dealers W J Smith of Little Cadogan Place. Sloane Street. London. The family history makes interesting reading, Mrs. Stern was (possibly) the wife of Sir Albert Gerald Stern (1878/1966) a scion of the Stern. Rothschild. Bischoffsheim & Goldschmidt merchant banking families & the Goldsmid gold bullion family. Sir Albert was more interested in machinery than banking, and during World War 1 offered his services and that of his armoured car and crew to the war effort. He along with A J Balfour and Ernest Swinton developed what they called a Piloted Tracked Vehicle powered by a Rolls-Royce engine. By the 15 th Sept 1916 the Tank Supply Committee had 50 tanks ready for action at Flers. In 1922 Albert married Helen Merryday (he was 44 & she was just 21!). eldest daughter of Sir Orr-Lewis – a survivor of the sinking of the Lusitania (1915). In 1933. the year Mrs Stern took delivery of GTZ 22. her brother-in-law Sir Edward David Stern died & Sir Albert became head of Stern Brothers. In the 12 th Century. Barham Court (Stern's country residence) in Teston originally belonged to Sir R. Fitzurse (1145/73) one of the quartet of knights who murdered Thomas A'Becket. the Archbishop of Canterbury. in 1170.
