their entire relationship and partnership is rooted in friendship. they’ve known each other for decades- they trust each other so much, and while there have been ups and downs throughout the seasons, they’re finally coming back to that place of complete and total trust and belief in each other.

they just know each other. maybe it’s something that comes from years of friendship, but after tahiti melinda was so sure nothing was different because “i know you phil. i knew you before, and i know you now”. phil knew who melinda was before bahrain, and knew she would always be that person, even behind her layers of walls and ice and heartbreak. i don’t think he ever gave up on her, even when she withdrew into herself.

their flirting. season one they had such a flirtatious undercurrent to their conversations and we’re getting that BACK finally and i just love it so much because it’s not over the top but melinda’s smirk and phil’s flush just give me life.
