Why Moriarty & Eurus belong together
Why this? Why meet? Why have this sexually provocative interaction?
Look how much this one looks like they’re both looking at his hard-on,
Then this trippy merging: they, ‘become one’, is both sexual innuendo and statement of purpose: Sherlock must integrate them to be whole. What did John say in TLD? A romantic entanglement would complete him. Romantic (feelings) entanglement (sex, entangled bodies). Neither of them seems to have eyes here, they have no identities besides their symbolism, here. They’re not characters here only ideas. This is a meta romantic entanglement between his feelings and libido. This will complete Sherlock and allow him to have one with another person,
Eurus is Sherlock’s repressed emotions.
Moriarty is Sherlock’s repressed libido.
Notice their similarities when they’re trapped: unkempt hair, white institutional looking clothing. The stillness of her arms is reminiscent of something who’s being restrained, Moriarty is in a straight jacket. They’re both in circular, panelled pens illuminated by a band (or bands of light). They seem like cracks where the light gets in, just like what Sherlock saw in his own prison. Both of these forces are just barely contained, they want to escape,
We see that by TFP Moriarty has, ‘broken free’. He arrives on Eures’ island literally as an erection broken free from its pants, finally, while Queen’s, ‘I want to break free’, plays,
His head thrown back in what looks like orgasmic abandon, Moriarty will put his hand up in the sky three times for good measure. He will even turn around to face in the opposite direction (is he facing East and West? Reason and feelings? That’s something else that Sherlock needs to integrate), he wants Eurus to break free, too. If she’s his other aspect, the thing that completes Sherlock’s attraction then he must come in to free her, too. His function, in this narrative, is literally a walking hard-on, broken free from its prison.
When Moriarty meets her 5 years ago, she is still behind glass. When Sherlock meets her, in TFP, she’s notably not behind glass. She’s not trapped, she comes and goes whenever and wherever she wants. She may still be there but she’s also, in theory, free. Her prison, like Sherlock’s, is easily escaped. You can escape your free your feelings and your libido if only you realise your power. If only you realise that you can break free any time.
