For the Bad Things Happen bingo, grabbed by the hair with characters of your choice?
Patton spent most of his life in the village completely unaware of anything going on outside of his tailor shop.
It wasnt his fault of course, it was rather difficult to do anything when your village was constantly under siege.
So Patton remained safe in his tailor shop dreaming of princes and royalty and crowns that meant nothing in the face of thieves and traitors.
But oh how he could dream, dream and wish and plea for a difference in his life. Oh how his face could light up at the vision of the Duke Remus patrolling the village grounds for any signs of the threats.
And it could only get brighter the day Remus decided to step foot in his own shop.
"Your highness! I'm sorry I-" Patton froze as the duke walked into the shop.
"No apologies necessary, just a routine check up," Remus said, his voice was raspy, it smelled like cigarettes. Odd, for someone who never smoked.
"Last I checked, those were only for people suspected of harboring thieves and traitors, of which I have none." Patton said, straightening up, hands wrapping around the sewing scissors behind him.
He let out a choked gasp as his head was yanked back, a knife pressed against the flesh of his neck.
"Check for money, attic, cellar, all of it." Snarled the imposter. Patton grasped for his throat in a vain attempt to free himself.
"Nearly a hundred gold!" Someone called from upstairs.
"No you cant take tha-" Patton winced as he was pulled forward by the hair, the knife digging further into his skin.
The door swung open.
"I'd advise you drop that poor tailor before I drive my blade into your skull." Now that sounded like the duke Remus.
Patton felt the blade leave, and the grip on his hair loosen, before he collapsed to the ground.
"Now drop the gold, and turn yourselves over," a clink against the ground as the gold fell from the thieves hands.
"Th-thank you- your highness-" Patton said breathlessly as he accepted Remus' hand.
"Oh please, dont bother with the titles- its terribly tedious," Remus said.
"And what might you need all this gold for? If you dont mind my prodding," Remus said.
"Its- to save up for a cleric-" Patton said hastily.
"And how long have you been saving for one?" Remus continued, raising an eyebrow.
"Oh- Uhm- just a year or two-" Patton replied.
"Well, that seems far to long to wait for medical attention!" And suddenly Remus was dragging Patton out by the arm.
"Wh-"
"Come on, we're getting you to a cleric, my payment," Remus said.
Patton soon realized how useless it would be to argue. This was going to be the start of a very odd friendship.
