Archie opened his eyes, head pounding, the light from his open curtainflooding into his room. Stretching his back and slamming his eyes shut again,he let out a sigh. Of course there would be consequences to last night’s party.Annoying, but reality. The fact that he’d drunk dialled his dad hit him again, and he took another deep breath. That would have consequences too, no doubt.
He rolled over and nearly had a heart attack. Next to him, lying on herside with her arm underneath her head, was Veronica Lodge. Even sleeping, herhair messy and her makeup smeared, she looked like an angel. Archie rememberedthe first time he ever saw her. He’d been sitting at Pop’s with Betty in theirusual booth, Betty was telling him about his summer. She’d started talkingabout something – something that hedidn’t quite catch because his eye had caught sight of something else – a visionof beauty unlike anything he’d ever seen before.
Archie came back to reality as Veronica’s eyes began to open. She caughthis eye immediately, and her mouth instantly turned into a smile. “Morningsunshine.” She said, sitting up. They were both still fully clothed – her mindwandered back to the night before.

Everyone had left, they were all gone – but Veronica stayed – after theirtalk in the kitchen before Cheryl and Chuck decided to crash the party, shewanted to make sure Archie really was okay. She’d had a soft spot for him eversince they first met. He was so hot,but he was also good natured. He was sweet, loyal, and just a little bit lost –as they all were. Every time she saw Archie, she was reminded of her “sevenminutes in heaven with Archie Andrews,” and how it was probably the highlightof her time in Riverdale so far.
She’d wanted to badly to not regret that night – deep down she knew shedidn’t – but she’d made great friends in Riverdale, especially Betty. Betty, whohad liked Archie. Betty, who was prepared to end their short friendship becauseof that night in the Blossom’s closet. It was understandable, of course, butVeronica tried to keep her interactions and feelings for Archie strictlyplatonic. She liked Betty, and Kevin, and hellJughead had even started growing on her. A high school relationship that couldend in a day wasn’t worth it – and besides – she considered Archie to bedamaged goods in the Post Grundy era.
“You okay, Ronnie?” His voice shocked her out of her thoughts. Veronicaput on her best smile and sauntered over to the loveseat he currently occupied, sitting on her knees facing him so it would be easier to talk.
“I am.” She said, thinking about the events that transpired earlier. That stupid game, secrets and sins. What even was that? Between that game and the “sticky maple,” Veronica wasreally starting to question the citizens of Riverdale and their weird culture.
“How am I ever going to be able to look anyone in the eye ever again?”He asked, looking up at her, and she nearly grimaced as she remembered hisbiggest secret – his affair with Ms. Grundy – had been exposed that night.Veronica somehow knew it was going to be okay.
“By Monday this will all be but a dream. Trust me, no one will rememberanything.” She stopped, thinking about the night, “Except maybe that I accusedCheryl of twincest.”
They talked a bit more about their respective situations. She could tellhe was upset – upset about the divorce, and she felt similar – everything withher dad had her life turned upside down. And what if her mom was guilty? What would they do? And thenArchie said, “Every day I wonder, what if I had left Riverdale with my mom? Wouldthings – would I have been betteroff?”
She didn’t miss a beat. “I can’t answer that Archie… but we wouldn’thave met, and that would’ve been a tragedy of epic proportions.” It would havebeen. Archie was – amazing. She was lucky to have him in her life.
“I’m messed up, Veronica.” He said, his voice faltering a bit. Shelooked at him, considering him for a second.
“We all are, Archie. And honestly, you less than most.”
He smiled, but froze for a second, staring at her. Before she knew whatwas happening, Archie leaned in and kissed her. He pulled back, looking at herhesitantly. She stared into his eyes, and before she could put another thoughtinto it – she leaned forward, closing the space between them, and kissed him.
It turned passionate quickly – her hands on his face and his in herhair, he pulled her onto his lap and she found herself trying to get as closeas possible to him. Eventually, they broke apart.
“Ronnie…” He muttered, looking at her like he’d never seen her before in hislife. She couldn’t help but smile, leaning in and kissing him again.
--
Archie found himself staring at her – neither of them had said a word. “Thankyou, for last night.” She said, her voice quiet, tired.
“You know I’m here for you, Ronnie, no matter what.” After theirkissing, they went upstairs, kissing a little bit more, and then they just laythere. She had her head on his chest; his arm was wrapped around her, lips in herhair. She’d never felt more comfortable, safe, or content in her entire life. And he’d never felt happier. After the ‘closet incident,’ after everything withMiss Grundy, he’d put his feelings for her on the backburner. But after lastnight, he realized he didn’t want to fight them anymore. There was one thing –Betty. His friendship with her was more valuable than any other friendship. Nowthat she as with Jughead, something that had surprised him more than anyoneelse, he wondered if it would be okay for him to pursue Veronica finally.
Archie looked back up at Veronica, and she leaned in, kissing him gently. He returned it almost immediately, and he pulled her on top of him.
Suddenly, her phone buzzed from the bedside table.
“Oh no.” Veronica said, looking over at it, “I’m late to a meeting withmy dad’s lawyer.” She looked back down at him, pecking him on the nose. “Whatdo you say, Archiekins, raincheck?”

Alright, it was a go. As I get a better feel for these characters (which I should have by now since I have probably seen every episode at least five times) I’ll make them longer, better, etc. I purposely didn’t add anything more than kissing to this! I love what they’re doing with the relationship on the show and I want to see where it goes first!
