Rook: Stop calling me that.
Solas: What, vhenan?
Rook: That.
So I decided to play/watch all the endings with the big battle with Solas and I’m ngl I’m really partial to this one it just so was satisfying to watch like I gasp watching this and I don’t know about you guys but there is just so delicious tension going on between my rook and solas all through the game, I was half expecting my rook to kiss him at the end.
Anyways spoilers below for end of Veilguard ⬇️⬇️
Going FERAL over my lil Rook, Pepa, slowly coming to genuinely like Solas only to get left behind in the Fade.
And then when she calls him out in Minrathous, she bitterly admits that she was EXCITED that the Dread Wolf respected her. And she goes on to accuse him of doing it on purpose, giving those scraps of affection and praise to bait her into a trap. And Solas looks and sounds fucking gutted.
I believe he did/does like my Rook. That he didn't ENJOY manipulating her, that that manipulation DID end up becoming true when he was impressed by her empathy, her strength, her determination to help and protect and bring her team close.
I don't think he ever lied about those things. I don't picture their relationship as romantic. I see it as more familial. Rook collects older brothers the way Lucanis collects little sisters. His slow shift of dismissive mockery to grudging admiration to genuine respect made her giddy. And him coldly saying she wasn't what he needed, so he made her what he needed to get out of the Fade? Fucking hurt.
But in hindsight, I feel like it was intended to be a double-edged hurt. Hurt Rook, and hurt himself because it was a cruel act and he hated doing it but felt like he had to so he punishes himself for it in little ways.
I feel like Solas didn't like betraying Rook. He didn't like being cruel and untrustworthy, he didn't like his personal feelings on her or her accomplishments being construed as pure artifice. He probably beat himself up for it even as he weighed himself down with justifications: it doesn't matter if he liked her, enjoyed her company, found her talented and compassionate and eager.
(Except that it did. Just like it did when he fell in love with a clever, kind, gentle Dalish hunter who chafed under human titles)
Ruadh 'Redd' Ingellvar Born in the Necropolis, no one knows who abandoned the babe, only that the Ingellvar Family Mausoleum will wage war if you dare take away their living heir. The spirits found the babe first! Therefor they have the right to paternity! (No, that is not how this works. Vorgoth has been fighting for custody against the old nobles for a long time)
Aggressively Northern, outright veering into the Scottish - Redd is logical, compassionate, and a mean ass bitch when pushed far enough but the patience they have is saint like. Already has no patience for Solas though because this asshat is using a DISGUSTING amount of magic willy nilly and Redd is not having it!!!
