But Joe was so much more outside of the ring. Greatness gives back and Joe never stopped working to serve others and make his community a better, more prosperous place. Joe was an entrepreneurial spirit who used his platform to develop a diverse ecosystem of various business ventures. From restaurants to insurance companies, to a chain of grocery stores he opened with former ring rival Billy Conn, Joe displayed a relentless appetite for success and facing challenges. A contagious trait that inspired countless others to dream and to dare for greater things. Joe Louis was a champion for all and through his business ventures, remained a figure in boxing long after his retirement. 'The Sweet Science' had provided opportunity for him and he embraced his time to give back and provide opportunity for others. He worked as a TV analyst/commentator and also as a boxing referee until 1972. Joe lead by example and showed that action can be a powerful force for inspiration and change, particularly for so many looking up to him. Joe's influence on society, race relations, politics and culture and his promotion of an enterprising mindset during a time of intense systemic and institutional racism and economic hardships were incredibly important. Born on June 16 in 1951, Duran made his debut in 1968 and struck fear in the hearts of men inside the ring until 2001, when injuries suffered in a car crash forced him to hang up his gloves. He gained the nickname Manos de Piedra (Hands of Stone) because of the almost mythical power those hands possessed. The all-time great, HOF'er is one of the famed Four Kings of boxing and is recognized by Ring Magazine as the best lightweight of all time. The Panamanian compiled a 103-16 (70 KO's) record and won world titles in four different weight divisions while competing over five decades.
