I only found out about the update tumblr is going to do in the next few days and I’m still confused about it. I actually don’t use the reblog feature anyway or rarely use it because I don’t want to take up space.

Also how is this going to change much anyway, when Facebook, Instagram, X/twitter…, and even YouTube to an extent with posts, all have a similar thing? The only thing I’m kinda about worried this update is maybe potentially spamming.

Okay, I'm answering this one publicly cause I think I got a few people who might be able to relate to you Rosa! Plus I'm happy to help the newbies and spread some general info! Welcome to Tumblr y'all!

Firstly: It's okay to take up space. Tumblr is built on interactions, adding stupid shit to reblogs. Nobody knows who you are and they don't connect your blog to your Real Life. You're free to be whomever, and no one will know it's you. Others are going to use it to be cruel, so why not use it to experiment and better yourself? You're never going to be anyone if you let yourself be No-One.

Secondly: You can make your entire blog private! 'Reblog Privately' means you are the only one to see the things you have reblogged! You can tell to the void, write down your thoughts, and be annoying all you like without anyone seeing, even the person you're reblogging from! (Though us artists really love a reblog with some insightful commentary lol)

Thirdly: Using your real name as your username is frowned upon, as if using your face as a profile picture. Any veteran of Tumblr will tell you this, as it is a core tenant of internet safety, often ignored in favor of corporate propaganda. Just as nobody knows who you are, you don't know who anyone else is. For all you know, there could be serial killers on here.

As for why the change is an issue!

People really like going through the reblogs of a post, myself included. I like seeing the jokes people make, the tags they add, the comments and additions to the post that they love. They don't want to see a comments section! This update removes the ability to look through reblogs and it sucks!

It's also bad because one of the main audiences for Tumblr is artists! It's a big one too. There are very few spaces on the internet now where art is not censored or policed. (Tumblr also censors art, but surprisingly does so to a lesser degree & allows for content warnings).

This change means artists can no see all the reblogs on their post! And let me tell you, what are the great joys of being an artist is seeing the tags people put on your work. This promotes big blogs (and from whom people will reblog from more often) rather than giving smaller blogs credit for their work.

If I reblog some art from a smaller artist and add a few insightful comments, I am stealing the attention from the artist that deserves it. If I want to support the artist, I should reblog without comments then leave a reply in the notes... Which turns the Tumblr interaction into a freaking Twitter interaction.

We DO NOT want this! It is a big step towards conformity and takes away the idea of this website as a place for personal blogs. It instead leans into the 'social media app' aspect of the company that people on here loathe.

We either stuck with Tumblr when it went down because we didn't like this aspect of Twitter, or you came here to escape the effects of these kinds of interactions. (Or cause my art drew you here lol) Either way, this is a step backwards for Tumblr.

to your question: indeed! this will be touched on more later, so i'll put a small explanation below the cut for anyone who wants to avoid spoilers.

in essence, dreams are a very powerful force in this setting. the demiurges, of which there are many more than the ones worshipped by the Clans, are the pillars of dreams. boughclan's demiurge essentially allows cats to "dream the dreams of birds", which is a symbolic way of saying that the demiurge is what gives boughclan cats their wings.

at this juncture i'm not sure exactly how thoroughly this will be explained in the comic proper, but i do know that the dreams themselves will be explained in a special episode, so stay tuned for that!
