LOOK AT THIS DOLL 😭 I NEED HER
going on the christmas list for sure
I recently made a post about the Garden of Flowers series that was unceremoniously ended after only releasing one Barbie. In that post I said that there were probably "at least a dozen" rose-themed Barbies but that I hadn't actually fact-checked that claim.
Well, let's fact-check.
The Rose Barbie, 2001
Rose Barbie, 1998
3. Radiant Rose Barbie, 1996 4. Rose Splendor Barbie, 2010
5. Rose Princess Barbie, 2000 6. Sweet Roses Barbie, 1989
7. Antique Rose Barbie, 1996
8. Rose Bride Barbie, 1996 9. Romantic Rose Barbie, 1996
10. Sterling Silver Rose Barbie, 2002
11. Elegant Rose Cocktail Dress Barbie, 2018 12. Grand Ole Opry Country Rose Barbie, 1997
13. Rose from Titanic, 2007
Okay okay we can't count that last one
Sometimes with Barbies, the team at Mattel have ideas for collectors sets that don’t end up panning out.
In 1998, a collectible was released and advertised as “First in a Series” - Rose Barbie. This is one of probably a dozen different Barbies one could describe as being rose themed (although I haven’t checked that number — I’m just placing a bet), but it was specifically advertised as being the first entrant in a collectors series called A Garden of Flowers.
The garden was not quite as elaborate as all that, however, as there was no follow-up to Rose Barbie. Mattel never released a second in the series, much less any more.
Perhaps if this release was more recent, we’d have some idea of why the series ended so unceremoniously, but I haven’t seen any indication of what other dolls in the series could have been or why none went into production. There’s no mistaking that this was their intent; besides the use of the word “first”, the back of the box explains that this series will be a “collection featuring Barbie in different outfits”.
Rose Barbie is quite nice though. Maybe Mattel just realised how many different collectibles they already had themed around flowers and decided not to continue.
Fixed Rose Barbie's hair- she was rattling inside the box and her hair was a nightmare
hey, I got a question for any doll nerds out there-
So I was researching pretty Barbies for my dollsona, and came across this one:
It says she’s “first in a series”, and I’m assuming that series to be the titular “A Garden of Flowers”
But hard as I try, I can find no info on other dolls from this line. Does anyone know the story behind this? Were they cancelled?
Ahhhh! His precious doll! He kissed it!
Let me believe what I want until proven wrong!
