Fear Street: Prom Queer was disappointing. The characters were bland. I could not tell you any of the characters' names without looking them up. The plot was cliche in a boring way, rather than a campy enjoyable way. The kills were generic and laughably unscary due to how disconnected we are from the characters. There's a stinger at the end that doesn't really line up with the lore already established by the trilogy. Above all else, it lacked the nuance, symbolism, and any form of storytelling surrounding queerness. It just did not hook me like the original trilogy. I now have the urge to rewatch all three again. I've seen some negative feedback with more articulate explanations on why it was such a letdown. I hope if there are any more Fear Street spinoffs, those opinions are taken into consideration.

Anyways, I've created a headcanon that the main character's mom and the school principal are queer. Rose Granger and Dolores Brekenridge went to high school together and maybe had feelings for each other, but didn't pursue them due in part to Dolores' religious values. Rose chose to raise her daughter on her own after Lori's father was killed. Dolores had a family of her own, pursuing a career at a convent. This is why Dolores encourages Lori in that one scene. She understands she's running for prom queen in part because of her mother.
