After the incredible response to my Guisborough 3 Peaks walk (https://www.paulbeal.com/guisborough-3-peaks), I’ve returned to the area to explore even more stunning scenery. This time, I’ve created a brand-new route: the Guisborough Forest walk – a fantastic 7-mile circular trail through beautiful woodland and open moorland.

🏞️ Roseberry Topping 6½-Mile Walk Including Captain Cook's Monument
📍 Hi all, I’ve just published this detailed guide to a Roseberry Topping walk, now live on my website. Starting in Great Ayton at the east end of High Street near the village green, the walk offers convenient parking to set you off on a memorable hike.
🥾 This 6½-mile circular route is not too challenging and involves a total climb of 404 metres. The journey begins through Cliff Ridge Wood and takes you past landmarks such as Cliff Rigg Quarry, an 18th-century shooting box, and Captain Cook’s Monument on Easby Moor, all steeped in history.
🌄 The highlight of the trail is, of course, the summit of Roseberry Topping, a distinctive hill rising to 320 metres. From here, you’ll enjoy sweeping panoramic views across the North York Moors, with clear days revealing distant landmarks like the Pennines, 40–50 miles away. The descent follows part of the Cleveland Way National Trail, guiding you across Newton Moor to Captain Cook’s Monument, before continuing through Ayton Banks Wood and Little Ayton, eventually looping back to Great Ayton.
