it's been a long, hot day on this forest planet, and Rose is about to go jump in the pond. and Hux? he might just have to follow... strictly for cleanliness...
Rose floats on her back, kicking her legs gently, the canopy of trees backlit by the late-afternoon sun. Her basics are just a suggestion at this point, plastered to her skin, but at least now they're saturated with cool water instead of sweat.
Her progress is halted when she collides with him, a gentle, accidental bump of her head into his warm bare chest. "Oh," Rose says quietly, righting herself in the water.
Rose has a strict policy with Hux, one of Not Apologizing. She figures, after everything, it's just. But when she finds herself treading water so close to him that her skin brushes his, she's unable to think of anything else to say. "Sorry," she breathes, her voice a whisper.
He's looking into the space between them, where one end of Rose's breast band has begun to unravel; and Rose takes advantage of his distraction to study up close the lines of his face and shoulders. She's heard about the First Order hazing, the things his own father said about him. She catalogs the patterns in the ink that creeps up his arms and across his shoulders. Camouflage, she thinks. Something to hide behind.
When she looks him full in the face, he's giving her one of those looks--the kind they've spent weeks or months pretending not to see. Something warm brushes against her side, and again--his fingers, a delicate, tentative touch. Rose crowds in closer, one leg making gentle contact with his in the water. Hux lets her, his hand splaying against her back, and Rose finally closes the distance between their lips. She's not apologizing for this, either.
