Thinking about Kev using "she" for Robert again, and seeing some fans express discomfort with this. My instinct was to unfollow or block because I'm really enjoying the Kev character right now, and I don't really want to see subjective negativity on my dashboard, but then I thought about it for a few moments, really considered it, and although the use of "she" for Robert in this context doesn't really bother me personally, I completely understand why some people might be uncomfortable, especially if they already dislike Kev as a character and the role he plays within Robert's story.

The problem, as some fans have pointed out, is that Kev is emasculating Robert when he says "here she is". And although my first instinct was to reflexively disagree with this because I enjoy the Kev character, it is technically objectively true. The use of she/her pronouns to refer to a male character or male individual is inherently emasculating and feminizing, and some individual fans might find it uncomfortable or weird. And they have every right to express that discomfort on their own blogs and accounts, and every right to personally dislike a fictional character.

However, and this is where my sympathy and agreement ends, I don't think it's fair to ascribe malicious intent to Kev here. You can feel free to hate him, to find him annoying or stupid, to wish that he had less scenes with Robert or less scenes in general, but I don't think you can assign malicious intent to his feminization of Robert. Masculinity is not inherently stronger or better than femininity; Kev isn't calling Robert weak or intending to insult him in those scenes, why would he? They seem to be on good terms now. The application of feminine qualities is much more likely to be intended as endearing or affectionate than demeaning or vengeful in this case. It's the equivalent of putting a flower crown on a male character's head and calling him "babygirl" lol. And again, you have every right to dislike this - God knows I hate the babygirlification of male characters on tumblr. But that's really all it is?

There's no indication that he intends to belittle or demean Robert when he says "here she is", and Robert doesn't seem to be offended by it either, he takes it in stride - no effect, no reaction. This is similar to how Robert responds when Ross slaps his butt - Robert takes it in stride, no effect, no visible reaction, no offense, no insult. As the audience, we don't know how Robert feels about all of this, the emasculation and feminization, because he's never spoken about it to my knowledge, never discussed it with any other character, nothing. We're not really given any indication of how Robert feels about it, if he feels any way about it at all. So I think any implication from fans that Robert is uncomfortable in these scenes is pure projection. Robert wouldn't hesitate to speak up if something truly bothered him. Just the other day, he snapped at Kev to "stop being weird" and "put the kettle on" lol. Robert isn't exactly quaking in his boots around Kev - at this point in their relationship, it seems like Robert isn't afraid of being honest with Kev, and he would tell him if something truly annoyed him. Now, after everything that happened between them, after all of the lies and manipulation of their marriage, they can finally be truly honest with each other in their divorce. Lol, the irony.

Anyway, these are just my thoughts on the topic as a fan of Robert and Kev as individual characters (and of their relationship dynamic together!), which are potentially subject to change.
