ramblings and alternate color version below the cut vv

I struggled for a while to think of something fun to draw for this, but then just ruminating on the comic itself led me to the realization that Maldoror is kind of the perfect inverse of a sea sponge? Because on one hand, we have sponges, these beautiful, unique creatures that started from a single point (if we're going off Ludo's theory about an original sponge) and expand ever outward into separate individuals, living forever by simply making more new things whenever they "die" by being broken. and on the other hand, we have Maldoror, the exact opposite. A writhing, burning mass of countless different creatures that used to be separate, but have been boiled together into one thing, living forever by becoming everything it kills. If Maldoror is endless desire, sponges are endless generosity. Then of course there's also the dichotomies between like, maldoror's burning islands versus the sponges' watery depths, and Ludo being born of land but irresistibly called to the ocean versus Maldoror being born from the ocean but bound to the land. So I was kind of trying to communicate ALL THAT with this drawing. I like this comic a lot, if you couldn't tell.
