fitz voice i'm not scared of violence anymore fitz voice ten pages later i am more afraid of pain than i am of anything else in the entire world and that fear shapes me completely and entirely

the fitz dynamic with dutiful is crazy. dutiful was born from fitz's rape* and fitz knows it and clearly reacts to it -- the initial anger and frustration especially drawn on by any behavior or look of dutiful's that Resembles Fitz, the resistance to acknowledging that similarity ('he doesn't look like me, he looks like verity'), the constant retreading in fitz's mind of How It Happened, the 'son of my body' phrasing -- but also fitz still loves verity despite (because of?) verity's repeated and ultimate violations of fitz's selfhood and bodily autonomy and so he's constantly drawn to dutiful out of this missing of/obsession with verity in a way that almost feels similar to burrich's draw to fitz due to fitz's similarities w chivalry. and dutiful doesn't know about any of this and just wants a father and fitz both is his biological father but also mixed minds -- and bodies!! -- often enough with verity so as to be by far by far the closest thing to verity still living. CRAZY!

literally haunted by that post about verity grooming fitz btw. it is so absolutely correct and it's also like. chade too. and nobody stopped it and in fact everybody told fitz forever that it was His Duty to be groomed . and he didn't have anybody else Really. because the things verity and chade had him do were shameful or dirty or forbidden to talk about. um! and now in tawny man the way fitz thinks and talks about and frames verity taking his body to have sex with kettricken is so scared and awkward and uncertain to the extent that even in the retrospective fitz is basically thinking Around it to present the picture of it. and he loves the fool and the fool could maybe help him but he doesn't trust the fool and as the fool has demonstrated over and over fitz is RIGHT not to. because of chade! this post has no thesis it's just insane. paradigm shifting Post #ToMe

the thing about lrb and the quarrel in general is like yes fitz is being cruel yes he is homophobic yes he is functionally accusing the fool of things the fool would never do. but in his DEFENSE. the fool is the literal only person in his life who wouldn't take something from fitz that fitz did not first offer. he is certainly the only person in that room who wouldn't take the opportunity to riffle through fitz's mind. fitz has been sexually violated in ways that he has not even a little bit come to terms with and had his autonomy taken from him in every possible way and been groomed as a child by people whom he now has to love or have nobody and even after his DEATH he is not free of this and his CHILD is not free of this. and so the quarrel and its aftermath reveal a lot about their relationship and about fitz's capacity for cruelty but it also just reveals how in general fitz is not capable of having relationships with people. at all. due to the horrible cruelties done to him. chade says do you trust anyone and fitz says the fool and he is lying and he knows he is lying but he does not have a better answer!! nighteyes was the only living being whom he could love/trust as an equal who came from outside the influence of the farseers and nighteyes is dead!! at the point of the quarrel there is nobody left!!
