rotting in my childhood bedroom
[I.D: A digital illustration depicting a person laying on their back, with their legs up on a bed. Their face is completely obscured except for the right eye, which has a tired expression. On both their arms, and on part of their stomach, grow mushrooms of various kinds. There's also moss, small plants, and even a few flowers, covering most of their skin. They are covered in dirt and mold, that also extends to other parts of the room. To the left of the image is a big bear plush, sitting on its hind legs; it has a sewn on patch and it's slashed open across the stomach. The person's hand closer to it is holding a bit of the stuffing. On its feet lay other toys. The room has a heart decal that goes around the top of the wall, and it has one window over the bed, with curtains. The whole illustration has very dark colors, mostly blue and grey except for the moss, mold, mushrooms, and dirt. End I.D]
This poem is full of rotting. Interact with your own discretion.
I am rotting.
I feel my body slipping away.
I feel my joints chipping away.
I can see my body rotting.
My skin peeling from my bones,
Revealing muscle underneath.
The burn that brings and the gushes of blood that follows.
It makes me wonder if I'm alive.
If I am alive,
Why am I rotting?
Why is my body turning to dust?
Everyone else is as sturdy as stone,
And the ones like me are all old.
"You must not have these issues,
For you are young." They tell me,
As I look at them with my peeling legs,
My chipping teeth,
And the maggots eating my skin.
"I am rotting!" I scream.
They cover their ears and sing, "You are not rotting!
If that is true,
That means I can rot too.
And I wish not think about that reality!
So I will turn away,
From this horrendousness."
I scream and cry.
They will one day rot too,
But I do not wish that it would be soon.
As seeing your skin,
Slowly peel off your bones,
Is something you cannot unsee.
Even if your skin re-attaches,
And your bones spring back to life,
It will leave an imprint on your life.
The feeling of the ever present pain,
Will ring in your mind.
The thought of the way,
Your skin feels detached from you,
Will stick with you.
The way that you move,
Will forever be impacted.
When you rot,
You never forget.
You may have lapses,
But it stays with you.
It will forever change you,
As it has me.
That's not something I wish anyone to see.
