Rottmnt Fantasy AU Fantasy
* Chapter 2 *

Dark clouds roll overhead as Mikey glances at his brothers behind him for the fifth time in the last two minutes. He noticed something strange was going on when they first met up. For one, Leo was wearing a blue bandana, which he claimed was a fashion statement; whatever that meant and Donnie’s cloak didn’t have a single rip despite his many encounters with law enforcement.
Raph seems ever vigilant scanning the area no doubt making sure there were no bounty hunters or guards around.
“Raph.” Mikey tugs on his brother’s sleeve.
“Yeah?”
“Do Leo and Donnie seem off to you?”
Raph looks back at Donnie and Leo who are trailing behind a bit. Leo walks with his head held high seeming to not have a care in the world while Donnie scribbles furiously into his journal not paying attention to where he’s walking in the slightest.
“Looks normal to me.” Raph says turning back to Mikey.
“Something’s wrong I can tell. Trust me.” Mikey says his eyes pleading.
“Mikey—“
“What are we talking about?” Donnie suddenly appears on the left of Mikey causing him to jump a bit.
Before Raph can answer Mikey cuts him off. “We’re talking about how things aren’t always as they seem. Wouldn’t you agree, Donnie?”
A glimmer of annoyance flashes in Donnie’s eyes but it fades as quickly as it appeared. “Yes, actually I would. I’ve been mapping out some anomalies in my journal.”
“What kind of anomalies?” Raph asks curiously.
“Some mystic plants have been dying under suspicious circumstances. Something is killing them off. Something strange.”
“That is weird.” Raph admits. “Do you think it has anything to do with Big Mama?” Raph asks lowering his voice.
Donnie glances back at Leo who seems to have noticed their quiet conversation. “Possibly. Have you heard anything?” Donnie turns back to Raph and Mikey.
“No. How would I?”
Mikey notices a strain line of Donnie’s face as Raph asks. Almost as if he’s just realized he’s made a mistake.
“Donnie just thought you might’ve heard something from Red Fox or in one of those inns.” Leo jumps in now having walked up beside Raph.
“Yes, exactly what I was about to say before you interrupted the conversation.” Donnie says with a hint of annoyance.
“You were taking too long.” Leo replies tightly.
“You’re not gonna start fighting again are you?” Raph asks.
“No, of course not.” Donnie answers.
“Good cause we have a long journey ahead of us.”
“How long?” Leo groans.
“Longer then usual but we have a couple stops ahead of us.” Raph answers as thunder crackles above them.
“It looks like it might storm.” Leo mumbles and him and Donnie slink back behind Mikey and Raph to talk in private.
Mikey looks back at them and shudders.
* * * * * * * * *
“I can’t see anything through this rain!” The real Leo exclaims as him and Donnie trudge through the muddy forest after the two shapeshifters.
“Just hold onto me so we don’t lose each other in the storm.” Donnie calls back.
“Are we still following the foot prints?”
Leo’s question is only met by silence.
“Donnie?”
“The rain washed away the prints. We’re officially on our own.” Donnie answers quietly.
Leo’s grip tightens around Donnie’s cloak a bit trying to ward off the anxiety starting to trap him in.
“Leo, are you okay?”
“Y-yeah. We need to find shelter.” Leo replies.
“Couldn’t agree more but I can’t see through the rain.”
Leo let’s out an involuntary shudder.
Two shapeshifters and a huge storm. Not a good combination.
