Piece By Piece…
Pete Townshend and Ronnie Lane - "April Fool"
In the event you read something for three seconds in disbelief today, only to remember the date, here's your antidote.
(Incidentally, this is one of my favorite songs to play in my theoretical solo show. Ronnie Lane was a treasure.)
something I’m working on with @psychedelicmelick
skip to 45 sec
This story's old, this heart is cold
This old street corner's heard it all before
But if I can bum just one more wad
I'd say “so long, I'm going home”….
Can I tell you how much I love this song?
In my opinion the best version ever recorded. I could be here all day discussing the genius of this song. Bonzo’s powerful and driving beat. The complexity of his drumming. I’m in awe. Jonesys underlying hypnotic bass and the soaring guitar riffs topped with the amazingly raw and sexy vocals that only Robert could lend to it. I have a physical reaction to this song every single time.
In 1977 Pete Townshend of The Who and Ronnie Lane of the Faces made an album together called Rough Mix. It is one of the best records I’ve ever heard. Treat yourself and your mind, that is if you fancy yourself having any modicum of taste where music is concerned. Most checking into my blog do.
The record also features Eric Clapton, Charlie Watts, John Entwistle and Ian Stewart amongst many other contributors.
Happy birthday Ronnie Lane. Thanks for all the magic.
