My Take on GMO's:
It isnt the manipulation of the actual genes so much that is the problem. It is a fact that with certain modification we have been able to increase crop yields. Corn and Sugar Beets for example.
However a side effect is we are losing diversity from cross pollination. Corp. seed manufacturers do not diversify. They work from only one variety with little hybridization any more. After all why would they. They have now made the "Round Up ready" herbicide producing seed they wanted and have the patent "corner on the market".
Some vegetable seeds are purposely modified to be sterile and cannot reproduce. That seed is very dangerous to mankind. Referred to as "Terminator seed" I believe. Hypothetically at some point in the future we would have no choice but to by seed directly from the co.s that have the patents and ability to reproduce the seed or face starving to death. In the future having ones 'own seed' known as "Heirloom" passed down from one generation to the next will be illegal if the large chem companies have it their way. Thousands of farmers have been sued for saving seed and reusing the following season as it is a patent infringement now.
It is a fact that the 2 main type "Cut and Paste" GMO's are "pesticide producers" and "herbicide resistant" seed. These two specifically have correlation with a whole host of unnatural, abnormal (Redundancy necessary) health problems since their introduction. Search how many different weeds that have become nearly entirely resistant to herbicides and how may species of insect has become pesticide resistant since implementation of these new scientifically engineered seeds and side by side use chemicals. Several insect species actually now eat the varied chemicals made to kill them.....
This causes a necessity for an increase of and different variations of both herbicides and pesticides to be used. All the crops of course absorb from the roots or osmosis more and more chemical that in turn we ingest. Run off from rain into the natural water systems is another method we are subject to ingestion.
It is a fact that the "pesticide producers" cause some of the pest stomach to literally explode. The correlation of which is men, women, and children, since the introduction of the 'cut and paste' GMO now have 10 fold increases in crones, IBS, children that are nearly allergic to everything food based, intestinal and stomach cancers etc.. Is this related to the plant modification, or the massive increase in chemical usage caused by these modifications and subsequent pest and weed resistance build up that is responsible for said increased usage?
I am an organic farmer. I do not use any chemical. My fertilizer comes from wood ash and yard debris only tilled into the soil. My seed has been passed for generations without contamination. I have seen the differences between GMO corn and tomatoes in my garden. I have grown both in separate seasons so not to contaminate the heirloom. I posted pics of a gmo tomato and my heirloom seed tomatoes and the difference was frightening and grotesque to see in some instances. The texture of the tomato meat pulp is very different as well. The Tomato seed from GMO are sterile and will not grow if harvested. The GMO corn however does very well if the water comes right naturally. But the heirloom corn does better in drought and hot season months, it takes less watering I have found.
All this being said, I feel GMO science is still in its infancy and has been subjected on the people too soon too fast without long enough trials done by non biased outside sources. Free from bribery or corporate interests. There are to many coincidences with poor health in relation to certain food groups now known to come from "Engineered Seed". The FDA is a fraud perpetrated on the people any more.
This is about as concise as it gets. There is so much more I have discovered and learned about the science behind it, but I am saving it for my book.....lol
