When: 2/2/17 / 1:36 PM (most people have never been here before midnight or in daylight) | Where: Simard's Super Beef - Route 38 Wilmington, MA | What: Simard's KING BEEF - heavy sauce and pickles | Price: $7:25 | Color: Dog Tongue Pink | Weight: Brick | Rating 3.5 BEEFS | Tasting Notes: Went into this thing hoping the king would compare to Blue House (Salem, NH) or Peter's (Revere,MA) but sadly, it was far from it. Maybe they were having an off day or maybe they gave my beef to someone at the drive thru by mistake? Aside from the size let down (King was size of a standard superbeef) it was actually a really nice sandwich. It came out piping hot and if you are into North Shore girls to go with your Beef, this place does not disappoint. The use of the word Mad to describe everything was very prevalent by the staff - "this beef is mad good" but wish it was "mad big" - came out piping hot, saucy, and the onion roll is packed to the point where 6 hours later I can still smell it. Wilmington locals may say we were crazy to set food inside let alone during the day but the onion roll patrol lives by their own rules and #dgaf #kingbeef #drivethru #latenightbeef #wilmingtonma #willybeef #simards #superbeef #jamesriverbbqsauce #route38 #sizematters #roastbeefsandwich #onionrollpatrol #middaybeef #beefaweek #sweetbeef #beeflife #beefoftheweek #beefroast #beefsandwich #beefgirls #saucehounds #stillhungry (at Simards)
Hot dayum Route 38 is a beaut
Accepting the Challenge
One thing that brings the world to together: food. If you were to drive down the street, you would be surprised to the amount of restaurants open for business. Unless you’re driving down a residential street. Like through your neighborhood. Then there probably won’t be any restaurants, and you would get the smug satisfaction of proving me wrong, but whatever.
Most of the times, especially if we have lived or worked in the same place for a period longer than a month, we become desensitized to much of our surroundings. Much like the cracked windshield your car sustained while tailgating a Peapod delivery truck in the right lane because the left lane had a slightly slower Toyota Corolla driven by a suburban driver who “clearly did not comprehend the concept of the passing lane,” you learned to ignore its existence until somebody jumps in shotgun and is like, “Whoa, that’s a nasty crack.”
We have discovered this characteristic of human nature is not only true with minor vehicle damage, but also with dining options. Like rabbits under your deck, you’ll be surprised to find out how many exist once you begin to look for them. Now we know most of them will probably be chains and franchised fast food, but every now and then, you’ll find a gem.
Of course, the term “gem” is totally subjective. You may say a gem is a four or five star restaurant that employs someone called a maître d or another called a sommelier. Good for you. Yes, we have just judged you, but it’s your right to look for these things. You may think a gem of a restaurant includes servers and valet parking, which then makes you a couple out on parents date night, but again, that’s your call.
We, on the other hand, look for… how should we say… restaurants with personality. You know the ones that you drive past and are like, “Hmmm. That’s interesting,” or “Wow. There are actually people sitting in there by the windows,” or even, “That place looks like the headquarters of a cult.”
So, it is with great pleasure that these are the restaurants we will be visiting. More specifically, we will be going to restaurants located on Illinois Route 38 AKA Roosevelt Road in the west suburbs of Chicago AKA State Street in the far west suburbs.
We have accepted the responsibility of visiting, eating, and telling the tale of our experiences at these eateries. Hopefully this will be a ruckus romp for all. We know it will be for us.
