4) Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?

I try to, and even open all my unreplied comments up pretty routinely. I get some intense commenting anxiety for some absurd reason, so it often takes a few tries. It’s something I want to work on, in tandem with leaving comments.

5) What’s the fic you’ve written with the angstiest ending?

Huh. Depends, I suppose. Truths to Tell or The Ring is Empty I think, but in different ways. Truths to Tell ends with a sense of defeat and listlessness that also leaves room for growth. The Ring is Empty however is the notion of being trapped, even with an inability to accept it.

6) What’s the fic you’ve written with the happiest ending?

Oh gosh, I think probably... Head to Wind. There’s a frankly insistent and defiant sense of hope and brightness in it that is directly challenging cynicism. I don’t know. It feels bright.

7) Do you write crossovers? If so, what’s the craziest one you’ve written?

Oh, I love a Daemon AU. I’m also a bit weak on mixing up Doctor Who with other sci-fi such as Red Dwarf and Animorphs.

8) Have you ever received hate on a fic?

Oh yes, very much so. I wrote a number of controversial fics. One of them got an entire analysis post on how I used my writing skills for evil, I shit you not. 

9) Do you write smut? If so, what kind?

Not enough, honestly. Most of my ships are MLM so there’s that, but no guarantee of dicks. It’s definitely more a private matter.

10) Have you ever had a fic stolen?

Some scrubbed by sites, but I don’t count it, just file my DMCA and go.

11) Have you ever had a fic translated?

No, but I did get a podfic of Crown you now, with many crowns !

12) Have you ever co-written a fic before?

Yep! Currently working on Breaking Light. 

13) What’s your all-time favorite ship?

Goddamn you ask a hard question. No all-time fave ships, but I’m feeling darkshipping, promptis, and destiel lately.

14) What’s a WIP that you want to finish, but don’t think you ever will?

Quite a few tbh. I wonder sometimes if I’ll ever finish City of the Dead or Chrysalis....

15 & 16) What are your writing strengths/ weaknesses?

Strengths, uh-- I think I can write some pretty solid prose, push comes to shove. And I’m partial to my verb choice when I’m on a roll.

Weaknesses are definitely action sequences, tense changing mid-scene and endings. I never know how to make a graceful exit.

17) What are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages in a fic?

Depends a lot stylistically. Sometimes it’s a good way to signal language shifts, or to highlight certain themes, sometimes it’s better to do an Asterix and Obelix style translation.

18) What was the first fandom you wrote for?

Beyblade, I believe. KaiTaka is still a great ship and I stand by it.

19) What’s your favorite fic you’ve ever written?

Well damn, another hard question. Antebellum or Head to Wind, maybe.

all this talk about maximum ride, has anyone mentioned "when the wind blows". also written by james patterson? maximum ride is like. an au of it he wrote for the ya genre. i remember reading it as a Teen and thinking it was much better than the maxride books

valentine’s day themed a whole day late but shhhh

Warren doesn’t expect much from his classmates. They’re good, of course—they’d have to be, to be in the hero course—but they’re all terrified of him, and that’s the way he likes it.

Well. Mostly all.

Plant girl, who is in the general course and is a year behind him to boot, keeps acting like they’re friends—she has a name, he even knows what it is, but he holds out hope that maybe she’ll take a hint—and that means that all of her friends think that they’re friends too. Plant girl’s—best friend? boyfriend? He doesn’t know and also doesn’t care—is at least in the hero course, though he’s in the same year as plant girl. The rest of them are in general or support.

At least they don’t call him senpai. It’s rude of them, but somehow it would be worse to acknowledge that he—technically—has a gang of kouhai hanging around him.

(One of his classmates, who he actually doesn’t know and isn’t just pretending not to know, made a comment to the effect of how lucky Warren was to have a harem.

His yelps of fear and pain are one of Warren’s more treasured memories, though it did earn him a lecture about being the bigger person and not indulging in violent tendencies and about two weeks of not-very-veiled allusions to his father.)

(He thinks this was how his father felt when he started to go after other sorts of villains, the kind that wear suits instead of costumes; this righteous anger that whites out your vision and then leaves you standing in the ashes of everything around you.)

“Warren?” Will asks at lunchtime. He looks nervous. “Can you—um. Can you meet me behind the gym after school?”

“Uh,” Warren says, because this is a bit of a blindside, “sure?”

After school, Warren leans against the side of the gym, and tries to think of what Will would want to talk to him about that he couldn’t say in the cafeteria. If he wants advice about plant girl, he’s definitely got the wrong guy. Even if Warren was interested in girls, he’s shit at romance and knows it.

(“Oh, little rabbit,” his father says in his memories, shaking his head fondly, “you have your mother’s soul. No sentiment!” He laughs and ruffles Warren’s hair.)

“Warren?” Will says, blushing furiously. “Um. I wanted to tell you—I really like you.”

“Okay,” Warren says, confused. “Thanks?”

“No, I mean—I think—here.” He thrusts a red, heart-shaped box of chocolates at Warren. There’s a picture of a rose on the lid.

Warren’s bad at romance, but he’s not completely clueless. He can put two and two together. Will’s uncharacteristic nervousness, the chocolates that he’s holding, and—oh, fuck, it’s Valentine’s Day, isn’t it? There had been a few boxes of chocolate on his desk when he got in, and a lot of blushing and exchanging of chocolates between his classmates, but none of his…friends…had been doing that, and it had died down by lunch anyway, so he had forgotten all about it.

He squints at Will, as though that would make any of this make any more sense. “Do you have a crush on me?”

“Yes,” Will says, and then turns red. Warren wonders about his circulation. That color can’t possibly be healthy.

“Huh.” Most of the people who’ve had crushes on him—the ones who have asked him out, anyway, he’s never been able to tell when people have crushes otherwise—have been girls who had never had a conversation with him, and tended to cry when Warren turned them down. This is…new, and not entirely unpleasant.

Unfortunately, he has no idea what to say now. He’s pretty sure he doesn’t have a crush on Will, but turning him down would probably make things awkward, and he doesn’t want to hurt Will‘s feelings. If nothing else, plant girl could definitely murder him; he has no idea why she’s not in the hero course.

Also, he might actually be starting to enjoy Will’s company. It’s a wild idea, but the guy can manage to have an actual conversation more than once a year, and he usually keeps his tendency to flail wildly whenever emotions are involved away from Warren’s lunch table.

This is awkward. Will’s still holding the chocolates out, though he’s starting to droop. Neither of them have said anything for a solid thirty seconds.

Suddenly Warren can relate to Will’s wild flailing. There are too many options here, and all of them are terrible. He doesn’t want to date Will, so he should let him down gently.

He has no idea how to do that, and nobody seems inclined to jump out of the bushes to give him a crash course in sentiment—he wishes, suddenly, that his dad was here, because his romantic, sentimental dad would know what to do—and silence isn’t part of letting someone down gently, shit.

“Thanks,” Warren says. “But…keep the chocolates. I, uh,” I’m not interested in you, nothing personal, is probably too blunt, but he doesn’t have any better options.

“You don’t feel the same, do you?” Will is thick sometimes, and then sometimes manages better emotional awareness than various adults Warren could name. “It’s okay, I figured you didn’t, I just wanted to tell you.” His voice is bright and cheerful, as though he were talking to a small child, but the rest of his body is crestfallen.

It makes Warren feels like a jerk, but he really doesn’t feel the same as Will. He shoves his hands in his pockets. “I should probably get going,” he says. “I’ve got a shift tonight.”

“Right, yeah.”

He pats Will on the shoulder as he leaves.

honestly i think you put a lot more thought into the physics and mechanics of the universe than pullman ever did

I mean yes, you are right, there are some things Pullman deserves to be dragged for, especially the sequence with the hyena dæmon pissing, which made no sense whatsoever within the logic of his own universe.

But I know I'm just harshing squee and being a wet blanket when I instinctually hate on other fans for interpreting dæmons differently than I do, which is why I now just avoid all other dæmon discussion / fic unless it's by somebody I know I'll agree with. But it's kind of sad because there's some really good dæmonfic out there! I've just painted myself into this headspace where I feel like I own the dæmonverse, even though the whole point of fandom is that no one owns a good story.

i really love those bi shoes - is there any particular size chart you would recommend to determine international sizing conversion? (i've looked at a number of websites myself, but they all vary in advice and I don't want to shell out ~60AUD for shoes that don't fit)

I have updated all of the sneaker descriptions (both men’s sizing and women’s sizing) with links to the appropriate size charts and fixed the descriptions and stuff. :) It’s easier to do that all in a batch and I thought I had done that before moving on to the next item but clearly I am frazzled.

I don’t want you to buy shoes that don’t fit either! Go forth to an Official Size Chart! :D

hey there dem, i've got a question about your altean redesign - does Coran have the whole mane orange, or does he just have the moustache-beard area in colour and the of the rest white?

Only Coran’s beard would be orange, in his True Form, as the white ‘hair’ is actually a sensory organ that makes the Alteans so sensitive to other species and allows them to project their many different faces. 

As of right now I’m still on the fence whether only the royal line of Alteans can project white hair on any of their other faces, or if the white hair is due to exposure to quintessence, as seen in the Galra Druids.

subtype of b in which it's an australian trying to put on american accent, as opposed to kiwi, but since he's surrounded by kiwis and kiwis trying to do american accent, the australian fakemerican ends up sounding more like kiwi fakemerican than actual american

leif starts off as type b but slips further and further towards type d as the series goes on, until he's fully type d except for a couple of scenes in the last episode; agreed wrt jasmine
