girl why are you so eyes
he's very supportive and wants to be included
Okay, so before I put up my stream info for tonight, another FFXIViernes, just wanted to formally introduce this alt of mine that is currently my Main on Excalibur. She is supposed to be Rox Pickheart/Whetstone from Guild Wars 2. Of course, Hrothgals are only going to come out with the next expansion Dawntrail, so there will be an update when she matches her true self more accurately.
Story goes that Rox is a female hrothgar that managed to escape Garlean occupation in Ilsabard by pure luck as a very young child, losing family along the way. She stayed in Gyr Abania long enough to consider herself Ala Mhigan and when it fell to the Garleans she joined the Resistance. It was there that she fell for some handsome hyur alchemist who was more than a little narcissictic. To sum up: he cheated on her with a miqo'te, she confronted him and dumped him, he got pissed, spiked a drink of hers with a magical alchemical concoction, and when she woke up with the hangover, she was a miqo'te. Suspecting him as the culprit, she once more confronted him and he told her he had done her favor, now men wouldn't cheat on her anymore. Honestly, it's a miracle he lived. She didn't stay in the Resistance long after that. She made her way out east to get as far away as possible and ended up saving a ten-year old xaela tied to a tree and abandoned. A member of the Tumet tribe, she hadn't been able to free herself of her bonds. Rox adopted her and gave her the name Aurene, since didn't have one. She also adopted another young feral teen a year or so later. And then another one.
Number 12 on the list: Go fishing with Rox
I’m doing some experimenting while i draw these things. Sadly i don’t have much to say about Rox because she was very absent from the story and even if she was in it her storyline got a backstage-focus-kinda treatment where if you paid attention her story progressed but the main plot took the actual spotlight from her.
I can 100% understand those that don’t like her (for this reason) and/or don’t even care for her.
My commander did pay attention to her (mainly because i am one that likes to take a look at everything and talk with everyone before i can progress with the storymode but also because it’s pretty canon to Beasteye Denalien since one of his core personality traits is that he is observant)
I was getting lost in a tangent there... so anyway my commander did pay attention to her and actually planned to train her as his replacement if anything were to happen to him in action.
Beasteye Denalien wanted her to be his second in command. (My out-of-universe reasoning for this is that if you noticed the commander likes to put her on point a lot in missions whenever she gets to be one of the companions in a story instance, ALSO if you pay attention in most instances where she appears she is the chosen companion to go ress you if you are downed. Plus the coincidence that she is a charr ranger and Denalien is a charr ranger...)
I got lost in a tangent here again.... SO ANYWAYS that’s what he planned but enter the Olmakhan and Denalien witnesses something he forgot to think about and thus didn’t think was a possibility: That someone so similar to him (near gladia - gladium, charr ranger- charr ranger, occupation beyond legion’s spy/ warrior in the form of beastmaster/miner, i could go on) could find a life to lead that’s fullfilling to her, a life that she can return to once the world is saved.
From that moment of realisation on, Beasteye Denalien let’s her go, so she could have what he can’t. (Which is also pretty canon, if you notice since the first introduction of the Olmakhan the commander doesn’t really order Rox around much, stopped putting her in frontline position, and only put her in a mission that she would already do without being ordered to: basically leading the Olmakhan for you.)
So this picture is really that, the commander visiting Rox’s life that she found so he can have a taste, buuuuut although he can see what Rox sees in this life, in the end it isn’t his. He is a bit different from Rox after all.

You know, Rytlock's weirdly mean streak regarding how he treats Rox when she's searching for a new warband seems a little odd at the time but if you frame it in the context of Bangar looming over him in his youth it becomes a pretty sad. Rytlock 'People Are Sad When Their Kids Die?' Brimstone doesn't put out the aura of a man who's emotionally literate. He, potentially, graduated from a horrific childhood in the fahrar to a warped, fraught mentor/mentee situation where he was persistently belittled and eventually discarded by a superior who seems to delight in mindgames. It could be that the petty, unpleasant side of Rytlock we see during Rox's arc is modelled on how he was treated. He thinks this is how you treat the people who look up to you because he has never known any different.
