ROXY BLUE-SQUEEZE BOX
Man I wish music could come in a liquid form so I could get an IV thing in my veins and I could have music inside of me all day long😎
Roxy Blue - Want Some More. 30/01/2013
ROXY BLUE (1990 - present) | Want Some? promotional album poster in HIT PARADER, May 1992.
Year 1992. The world's greatest hairspray party suddenly was over, but there were a plenty of great Hair metal albums still released in that year. Your favorite?
Wednesday, August 16: Roxy Blue, “Main Attraction”
Roxy Blue was perhaps the last hair metal group signed to a major label, and even though “Rob the Cradle” attracted some radio and video attention, it ultimately rang the final bell for this style of sleazy pop metal. But while Want Some? gleefully embraced hair metal’s worst qualities, its closer offered something slightly different: “Main Attraction” sounded more like David Lee Roth’s early solo work than Diamond Dave’s own A Lil’ Ain’t Enough, released just one year prior. Indeed, the song bounced and careened like a deep cut from Eat ‘Em and Smile, not making a ton of sense but showing surprising agility and a particular sense of adventure (not that adventurous- this was still hair metal). Roxy Blue deserved every bit of scorn they received as they and their scene were shunted to commercial oblivion, but “Main Attraction” suggested that, given better timing and room for growth, the band could’ve at least occupied a more interesting corner in the genre.
