DAY 3

- The pranks Izzy and Roxy do when handing out candy is inspired by a list of ways to confuse trick-or-treaters from the early internet days (e.g Roxy handing out cigarettes and Izzy dressing up in her costume, saying “Trick or treat!” when someone rings the doorbell, and then freaking out)

- Instead of just using a regular trick or treat bag, Izzy just decides to use plastic bags from her mall shopping trips because I once trick-or-treated with a Hot Topic bag

- My real life best friend is inserted into the story as a worker at the DVD store near Izzy’s house

DAY 2

- The story takes place in my hometown, and a lot of the places Izzy and co are soon going to may seem fictional, but nope, they all existed during the events of our novel. Every other restaurant in my town served mediocre Asian food (that somehow starts tasting way better when you think about it years later, like my dad thought that the Happy Wok we ordered from when I was little was a shithole, but the other day he mentioned how much he wanted to have some Happy Wok again) back when the story takes place

- Izzy often calls herself “deirty”, a term used to describe Hugo Weaving fans in the early 2000s

- Izzy’s favorite song is Movies by Alien Ant Farm

Aspen is based on a real person that I was friends with in sixth grade, although Aspen is a little bit friendlier :)

Izzy’s lip piercings are fake, but the eyebrow and ear piercings are real
