Dr Bempah has a background in radiochemistry and analytical chemistry. His heritage is form the Asante people of Ghana and it is his pride is his heritage that led him to write his seminal book 'Akan Traditional Religion: The Myths & the Truth' in order to dispell much of the falsehoods around the Akan system of veneration. His main inspiration was to debunk some of the ideas suggested by J.B Danquah in his book 'The Akan Doctrine of God'. What Dr Bempah had noticed was that Danquah, due to his lack of knowledge about his traditions, had effectively tried to map the Akan system in its entirety to the Christian religion (as he was from the chosen colonial ruling class who were more westernised than most at the time). Dr Bempah's family were the custodians of the royal house, the 'Kradwareni' - those who wash the spirit/soul of the King, so his knowledge of the systems were from source. The spirit of activism to then correct the past errors is what resulted in his own book, that expands further where Danquah may have fallen short.
