Mal Duncan/Roy Harper band au please? (Sorry to pull an obscure one)

Roy gave the guitarist an appreciative once-over. He was gorgeous, all glistening skin and rippling muscle and deft fingers -- and man did he know his way around a riff.
The rest of the band was nothing special -- Roy’s band would win this round easy -- and Roy thought there was no reason not to give this Mal Duncan (he’d gotten the name off a competition program) a chance to be part of something better.
